  1. You'd be surprised at what goes on in Paypal accounts...
  2. With our criminal justice system, you'd be surprised what can happen. The Menendez brothers were acquitted the first time, and they reloaded.
  3. The only thing here that could really preclude his duty carry of a weapon is the charge that he feloniously sold a town-owned rifle, then pocketed the cash. However, the news report doesn't go into the full specifics of the allegation, and with the aid of a good lawyer, the situation could actually be explained to a degree where either the charges are dropped or are downgraded to less than a felony, which would then enable the chief to keep his weapon. The child support payments, generally speaking, aren't necessarily "criminal" insofar as they are neither felonious nor dangerous. Although they violate the terms of a civil settlement, and may be construed as contempt for both the settlement and the court that ordered it, that charge alone (at least when applied to the provisions of 18 USC 922), isn't enough to take the chief's weapon. I do agree, however, that it is a mess, and if I were a resident of that town, I'd be pretty PO-ed.Since the article describes that it is in a high-risk area for narcotics trafficking, I wonder what the town would do for police services, and whether any contingency plans have been set in place.
  4. So far, I've read 33 posts of nothing but speculation surrounding the incident. So rather than fanning this possible garbage can fire into a structure fire of a magnitute that warrants investigative journalism, why don't we go to the source first? That said, is there anyone from Somers on the air here who can shed some actual light onto the subject?
  5. ::singing:: Now's he's just someone that you used to know ... lol But to get back on track, yes, they do. I'd even also go out on a limb and say that they should be inspected monthly and after each major incident.
  6. Isn't this the same city where not even a week ago, a EDP "mother" decapitated her 2-year-old? Yes, disband the police department. Seems legit...
  7. After shooting himself in the head, he then stabbed himself in the back 4 times and jumped off a bridge, just to make sure the job was done. There's more to this one than is being published.
  8. I agree with all of the above (except the certain obvious points). Training is the name of the game. You never stop training, and if you do, then it's time to hang up the helmet. Failure to train is training to fail, no exceptions.
  9. First off, with it being relatively known that Commissioner Ray Ray hangs his own people at the drop of a hat in order to protect his own political aspirations, can anyone blame rank and file cops for leaving the city in order to have a better working environment? Secondly, unless there's a "non-compete" clause in the cops' contracts, then it's none of the city's business where a cop goes once he or she separates from city service. All of this can be solved by not telling the pd where the soon-to-be former officer is going once they leave. Plain and simple, the city is not entitled to that information, as it's the person's personal business.
  10. How quickly we forget that other nations were there to aid and comfort us in the days and months after 9/11. Even France has a 9/11 memorial, which in and of itself, speaks volumes.
  11. Thoughts and prayers for our brother
  12. Knowing the Taconic State Autobahn (er, "Parkway"), while the posted speed limit is 55, and while common sense may dictate that 50 is a little too fast for inclement weather conditions, I'd say that a majority of motorists would be doing at least 50 or better at any time, regardless of the weather conditions.
  13. Ahh, another satisfied customer of Uncle Ted's Driving School.
  14. Politicians as a collective. Our country is broken and its leadership needs to be refreshed.
  15. As the husband of a teacher, if people truly want to save on taxes, then go after neither the Board of Education nor the fire or police service: go after politicians.
  16. This may be a dumb question, but why on God's Green Earth would anyone want to camoflage or otherwise make it more difficult to find a hydrant that happens to be placed in front of their property? Saying nothing of the fact that most likely, the hydrant was there before the homeowner purchased the property (so if it was that much of an eyesore, then why purchase the property at all), but in most cases (or at least in my own case), the close physical proximity of the hydrant to the residence is actually an insurance benefit.
  17. What's the ETA on the statement from the family indicating that the dearly departed was "turning his life around?" Thoughts and prayers are with the officer for a full recovery.
  18. Volunteer departments are not conduits for malfeasance, misappropriation, or misconduct regarding the use of donated funds, as they operate generally as a body of the overall governmental jurisdiction's (village, town, city, and so forth) authority. To make a blanket statement that donations are used more for recreational use than official department use, without any physically documented evidence thereto, does a disservice to the entire firematic community, paid and volunteer alike.
