  1. Yeah for as long as i can remember it has been sitting there! What a shame that it is destoyed as mentioned. Why on earth would you buy something like that if not to preserve it and restore it?
  2. I was at Walters the other day enjoying their fine fare and was curious of the status of the old ladder truck that is behind the hot dog stand covered in blue tarps. I was wondering if anyone could answer 1. Who owns it 2. Make an year it is 3. Any plans to ever resore it
  3. neeed to get a few "eastchester's" from pipers kilt sent down to help him deal......
  4. This is just an idea i thought of but what do you all think of YFD getting in touch with the group running the ex FDNY fireboat John J. Harvey to pump from the river.....did a great job on 9/11 coming out of retirement that day. Might we worth the phone call?
  5. Where is Sharon FD located?
  6. Rest easy in the company of the saints....
  7. My humble opinion is that Pelham Manor and Pelham should combine, it should have been done a long time ago. They are too small to operate as two departments. It will be interesting where this will go if anywhere. I also think that the career depts of southern westchester should combine with one or two volunteer companies that are well trained and equiped. In my opinion it just makes sence. For example its stupid that if an Eastchester engine is sitting a few hundred yards from houses in Mt. Vernon that it not role in an emergency just because those residences are in "the Vern" and there are many more examples like this. You could also argue that this could be done in N. Westchester as well as mostly volunteer. This would create more man power and better training. Combination is the tax saving answer of the future...this could also be considered for the town and villages PD's as well as the town and villages DPW's/. I also think that the school disctircts could be consolidated as well. One school district per town and get rid of the village school districts.
  8. Bogota FD should have been pulled over to the side of the road and sent home never to retun. How unprofessional and dangerous with members riding on top of the rig. Hands down they won the trophy for the biggest jackasses!
  9. In my opinion fire parades should not be about the trophy I mean who really cares about it. It should be for the enjoyment of the public especialy the kids. I think there should be a requirement that you must have your lights on. The trophy is nice for about a day then it does onto a shelf and is just another thing to dust. Put the lights on, give the siren an occasional yelp and a tug on the air horn. Seeing the wonderment and excitment on a kids face is enough trophy for me!
  10. Looks Cheezy!! In my opinion the only FD movie/show who showed something of what it is like to be a firefighter is Ladder 49. However, Emergency was before my time so I have to trust GGG that it was a good show!
  11. "Stupid is what stupid does" Mr. Forrest Gump. What an a** for complete disregard for the public's saftey.....hope his get licences taken away. Nice job by NYSP!
  12. Here is an article from 2007 in Firehouse on how light weigh truss are built..... http://www.firehouse.com/article/10499153/how-the-lightweight-truss-is-built As we know they are quite dangerous!
  13. I hate the idea! But if your gonna do it put ad's on your entire fleet meaning your garbage trucks, all DPW vehicals, police vehicles, the mayors car, and any other vehical the city owns. Like ny10570 said the companies take pride in their apparatus. The engines and trucks are more then modes of transportation to firefighters. Also, once you start this can you discriminate who advertises on your rigs and what is in their ad? THe rigSounds like it's a can of worms just waiting to be opened.....Stupid idea!!
  14. Would it be feasible for MTA PD to staff each train with one officer. If something goes down there would be a least one officer on scene with backup responding. Does budget prevent this or are there other reasons. Curious to hear what you have to say.....
  15. Ha ha thats great! Slip slide and away!
  16. I found pics of all the EFD's Mack CF's at http://fdnytrucks.com/files/html/otherstates/Westchester/Eastchester.htm
  17. Retired Eastchester Engine 28 which was a 69 CF. She served 40 years from 69 to 2010. In the late 90's she was refurbished when the jump seats were enclosed. The encloser made riding in the jump seat incredibly loud. She had a sister which was originaly Engine 27 then became Engine 30 when the 86 Mack became 27 later Engine 29. Eastchester also had early 1970's Mack CF's which were Engine 29 and 31. They served until they fell apart and were replaced by the American LaFrance Eagle pumpers around 2000
  18. Curious to know what you do not like about them. ?
  19. Unbelievable! The lowering of the flag needs to be re addressed. It seems like it is lowered at a whim these days. As per the flag code of the US. government §175. Position and manner of display (m) The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff. By order of the President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States Government and the Governor of a State, territory, or possession, as a mark of respect to their memory. In the event of the death of other officials or foreign dignitaries, the flag is to be displayed at half-staff according to Presidential instructions or orders, or in accordance with recognized customs or practices not inconsistent with law. In the event of the death of a present or former official of the government of any State, territory, or possession of the United States, the Governor of that State, territory, or possession may proclaim that the National flag shall be flown at half-staff. The flag shall be flown at half-staff thirty days from the death of the President or a former President; ten days from the day of death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives; from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession; and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress. As used in this subsection - (1) the term 'half-staff' means the position of the flag when it is one-half the distance between the top and bottom of the staff; (2) the term 'executive or military department' means any agency listed under sections 101 and 102 of title 5; and (3) the term 'Member of Congress' means a Senator, a Representative, a Delegate, or the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico. as you can read no where does it say to lower it for a entertainment personality. Like I said to start...unbelievable!
  20. No a Division Chief is higher then a Battalion Chief a Division Chief holds the rank of Deputy Chief. In each Division there are a number of Battalions anywhere from 4 to 7 I think. If lets say one of the permanant BC assigned to Battalion 12 is on vacation or other typ leave one of the floating BC would cover. I believe that is how it works. If you want the entire break down here is a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organization_of_the_New_York_City_Fire_Department
  21. Yes Eastchester has the same set up. The tour Commander holds the rank of Captain car 2102. The Deputy Chief rank in Eastchester is the top ranking volunteer firefighter.
  22. For the sake of saving tax dollars it can not only be the FD' to consolodate. In Eastchester for example there is one FD that covers the entire town Easchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville also one VAC but there are three PD's, 3 DPW', 3 school district. Now imagine the savings if they all consolodated into one PD, DPW, etc and its not only Eastchester. The old model of the turn of the last century is no longer feasable in todays economy. Dept's with in town's and villages need to become one.
  23. The real problem in Eastchester is that the Board of Fire Commissioners is totally dysfunctional!!! Their main order of business is in-fighting with each other. Hopefully the new commissioner who replaced Keith Fennely will be a positive force on the board. They have been an embarrassment to the dept. and the town
  24. Wow! This article was written almost one year ago and you guys are still not back in Wilmont Rd! What is the hold up? Was something in replacing the floor done wrong? I mean one year later they could have built a new firehouse by now! Also, three months to fix 16 truck and nothing done? Did the board find other stuff to be more important then to get the 1st due truck to all alarms south of Mill Rd fixed as soon a humanly possible? I agree with Capt Demps they are playing russian roulett..very dangerous! Also, what is the point of having a back up truck if the stick dosen't work? They should get rid of it and buy a used but working ladder truck for ladder 15. Stay safe boys!!
  25. Great job lads! You did the entire fire service proud!
