  1. NICE!
  2. Maybe the fire districts should start purchasing unmarked vehicles for their Chiefs, Officers & Commissioners. A plain solid color vehicle with NY "OFFICIAL" plates would draw less attention when it is taken outside of the fire district/department response area. It seems to work well for the bosses and detectives of police departments. From large PDs to small town PDs, many of them let their bosses, detectives, K9, crime scene & tactical team members take home their "company cars". One police agency I worked for in the past let the Chief have unlimited personal use of this department owned vehicle. He frequently took his vehicle to Yankee games, casinos in AC and a handful of other non-police business related trips outside of the County & State. There was never any complaints from the taxpayers because nobody knew who the car/SUV belonged to.
  3. I have not seen an ambulance built on this chassis yet, but I think we will see one in the near future. http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/ram_promaster/?bid=7880028&sid=905577&pid=103322832&adid=276853931&cid=56144853&buytype=LF&TR=1&channel=display
  4. WHO CARES? Seriously............FDs in different counties have different rules when it comes to department or district vehicles and how far out of their response area they are permitted to go. As long as the Chief, Commissioner or whoever has permission to take a vehicle out of the area, then it is not an issue.
  5. Here is the new Ford Van coming out for 2015. It is unibody construction. I wonder how it will effect converting this van into an ambulance. http://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/transit/
  6. So far, I have only received by grade for the "DISPATCHER" exam for Orange County. I have yet to receive my grade for the " PUBLIC SAFETY" exam that I took at the same time. Since I took the typing exam for Westchester, I sent a copy of proof to OC that I passed the typing test from Westchester and they waived the typing test for me.
  7. If you already took the typing test for another County, like Westchester, you can send proof that you passed to Orange County, so you do not have to take it a second time.
  8. Westchester gave the typing test 3 weeks ago. Orange has yet to send out our scores or hold the typing test. Dutchess County sent out the scores already. The typing test for Dutchess is coming up in the beginning of October.
  9. I got my letters for the typing test for Westchester, but my score was not on the letters. Obviously I passed the exam if I got these letters for the typing test. I also took Orange & Dutchess County exams, have not heard anything yet.
  10. I looked at the NYC Civil Service website and it doesn't even show on their list of upcoming exams.
  11. All you technically need is a NYC address....
  12. What agencies (PD/FD/EMS) in Westchester County have their own dispatch?
  13. I have seen unmarked NYSP Tahoes on Route 17 in Orange County numerous times over the past year or so. These units were all painted "State Police Blue" and looked exactly like the marked Tahoes, but without the lettering and lightbars of course. These units were patrolling and specifically looking for drivers that were texting or talking on the phone. If you are already familiar with the marked cars, you would have no problem spotting an unmarked car from pretty far away. Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember that maybe 10-15+ years ago, that he NYSP Brass in Albany made a policy against unmarked Trooper cars pulling vehicles over for traffic violations. I am guessing that this is no longer the policy.
  14. Anyone know how long it usually takes for the test scores to come out?
  15. and this one too.... http://www.mophie.com/juice-pack-PRO-Rugged-case-for-iPhone-4-4S-p/2120_jppr-ip4-blk.htm

  17. The information I got today is that both the BLS & ALS got shut down by DOH. This came from a very reliable source.
  18. Goosetown Communications in Rockland County does installations.
  19. http://raytheon.medi...?s=43&item=2156 Raytheon mobile application allows first responders to use PCs, tablets and smartphones as "virtual radios"
  20. Thanks for the info! I know that up here in Orange County, the majority of the FDs that set up LZs use lowband 46.40, but I also hear the flight crews talking to EMS Dispatch on VHF & there are some FDs that communicate on various UHF frequencies. Most of the time, the dispatchers ask the FD/EMS agencies in scene for a frequency they want to use & what PL TONE they will be using, so I know that the flight crews have field programmable radios. I wanted to get an idea of brand/model & find out if these are specificly made for aircraft or if they are mobile radios that can be purchased & installed in a car etc.
  21. Does anyone know what brand/model two-way radios that medivacs in the Hudson Valley Region use? Do they have just one multi-band radio or multiple radios? I know they have lowband, VHF & UHF capabilities, because I have heard them operating on all three bands. Just trying to get more specific details.
  22. Has anyone had to take a Select Advantage pre-employment personality/psychological profile test for an emergency services job? Select Advantage is a company that creates exams for many different types of employers and is used by them in the pre-employment stages after an application is submitted for a position. I have taken a few of these types of exams and I think they are pretty much useless as far as selecting people who would or would not be a good candidate for an emergency services job. There are many qualified people with many years of experience who do not even make it to the interview stage with a potential employer because of results of the exam.
  23. What PDF did you read? I looked on the Fairfax website & did not see the info you are talking about. The pay for Fairfax is pretty good and so are the benefits.
  24. Does anyone here know anyone who has taken the test or anyone who is currently employed at the Fairfax County Virginia 911 Center. I am going down to take the test for this agency at the end of this month. I am just trying to get some more info about it. I have been on their website etc, but being able to speak with someone could give me better insight. I also applied for Loudoun County Virginia 911 Center as a fire/rescue dispatcher and as a Public Safety Dispatcher with the Prince George's County Maryland 911 Center. Again, I have been on the websites for these agencies, but being able to speak to someone with first hand knowledge would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.
  25. I am not a father, but I have plenty of nieces and nephews and I know the rage that I would feel if this was happening to one of them. So, if I was a father, those feelings would be multiplied by a a thousand. I would have done the same thing that this father did. Rapists are one of the lowest forms of life to begin with, but a child molester/rapist is even worse in my book. This guy did society a BIG FAVOR by ending this guys life.
