  4. Criminology. Maybe a Science. Journalism. I found those most interesting. Or if your into film, take a film/film history class.
  5. Don't waste your time looking for them. Tones for various agencies aren't given out for a reason.
  6. Lets see I can think of Whelen, Federal Signal, Code3/PSE Amber, Sound Off Signal, Nova Electronics, Star Signal, and 911EP. I have to say that Whelen, Nova and Federal Signal are at the top of my favorites list. As far as history, there is a lot of history behind Whelen and Federal Signal. Whelen had the first strobe lightbar (which I'm sure some people here remember) and you can never forget the old Federal Signal rotators! As far as your question to Sound Off, I have installed thier products before and I don't think they are as good as those of the bigger companies mostly because the bigger companies like Whelen and Federal Signal make thier own parts in thier own factories, except for actual light bulbs and L.E.D.'s and pour lots of money into thier engineering departments. I work for a company that outfits police cars, EMS fly cars, Fire Chief vehicles and other types of cars/trucks in Southern Westchester. I've seen a lot of products and in the end Sound Off is requested maybe 25% of the time at most.
  7. Pleasantville has one. Its a 1994 and still strong.
  8. The new Rumbler by Federal Signal is simply a sub woofer for sirens, and it will only work with Federal Signal brand sirens. They are mounted in pairs, primaraly on each side of the vehicle behind the bumper. They are very large similar to a basketball. Also they are not meant to be used ofr extended periods, not more than about 15 to 30 seconds at a time for intersections. I've been hearing these things a lot lately and it literally makes your stomach shake. The draw back i don't like is there are wide open holes to let the sound out, which also let everything else in where there is a plain and simple subwoofer speaker like you would find in a suround sound speaker system. You need a seprate control box in addition to your siren unit to make them work, running a couple hundred bucks.
  9. I would have to agree BFDCAR5. The Impala is great if your looking for good gas mileage and an overall lighter car. I like the Interceptor also, but only because more products are made to "fit" the car and lately i've noticed it is being offered with many more options. Now the Charger is awsome. it is smaller but the handleing of that car will leave both the Impala and the Interceptor in the dust, and if its got a hemi forget about it. I'm also noticing more products coming out for the Charger and some of the prisoner cages i've seen are real nice in how they are installed in the car.
  10. I got one and i love it! it fits nicely on my helmet and with the way it works its easy to turn on even with all my gear on with air, just push down on it. in terms of brightness, its bright enough for me and also seems to be very durable. can't argue with the price either.
  11. Yonkers PD: Whelen- Freedom B-Link LED Lightbar 700 linear grille led's led mirrorbeams the usual hide-a-way strobes rear abmer led's on trunk lid nothing special in my opinion. Slick tops- Whelen inner edge (rear) Dual Talon (front) led tir3 arrow stick on rear deck custom mount w/radar led mirror beams rear amber led on trunk lid 500 5mm leds on each quarter panel all cars have cages, plastic rear seats, and rear window bars and flat panels (no arm rests) also new laptop computer docks in each car. They got 5 cars 3 with lightbars 2 slick tops not done in Yokers this time but by a company in Mamaroneck. -built by StrobeGuRu
  12. I would just like to say...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  13. I feel sorry for the moron but I can't stop laughing, especially with these comments.
  14. Wow this is hard. Picking up water and dodgeing birds needs to be mastered before the second level, with higher terrain. The instructions are in French so its like English to me. Good game find 648eng119.
  15. I will try and get a picture up it will take a few days.
  16. I use this plug with an alerting system which is baisically a timer connected to fire alarm type storbe lights that flash for about 30 seconds after the pager is activated. the unit that plugs into the back of the amplified charger self resets after it completes its 30 seconds. the amont of time can be adjusted from 1 second to 1 hour. PM me if you need more information.
  17. As far as I know in my department we do not return to the station with lights on. After all its not an emergency. Avoids confusion too.
  18. apparently i'm not as smart as i thought. the keypad part is driving me nuts. please help.
  19. Ok here's the scoop. I found out that the bumpers the county police use are not made by pro-guard, go rihno, or setina. They are custom bumpers made by where I work useing machined metal and dock rubber bumpers (as in boats). Setina must have come to mind since thats all i ever install because they are so popular. I hope this information helps. the county usually gets about 20 new cars every year. P71Rob if you need more info pm me.
  20. I might know. I built thier last batch of cars (before the mechanics build them) which included push bumpers aside from the grille and deck lights and wig wag. IF i remember correctly I think they are setina. I will double check.
  21. Saying this from experience... i've gotten countless amounts of pagers from various vendors from 3's to 5's. I couldn't believe how hasty these tech's (or motorola factory direct) are when programing a pager for various departments. something to look for - make sure the pager is working in the right tone system that the true tones of the department and 60 have. i've adjusted this before and it helps. my 5 works as well as my old II in my opinion.
  22. My 5 is awsome. As far as what problems people are talking about, most of the m seem to be programable fixes. The option to change the type of alert tone is quite nice. there are 8 different other choises besides the normal beep and vibrate. Something different makes it less anoying. And now i can tell the difference right away between my fd and vac pager. The range on them is awsome. I was never able to pick up audio in mamaroneck or long island with my 2, 3 or 4. with the five it works flawlessly. and having it last for 3 or 4 days without a charge is nice too.
  23. I don't know of any OSHA regs or anything like that. The way i see it is that every firefighter who goes inside a building or is in any position for the scene to become unsafe regardless of the location or who thier with should have thier OWN radio. If you have the right amount of radios to do the job/suit your department, things can be done easier and quicker, providing people know how to use the radios and when and when not to speak.
  24. "Pleasantville uses the horn 24/7- not only for tradition's sake, but it lets the town know that there is emergency services traffic. It also helps if you don't have your pager on you- the horn blasts denote a major or minor alarm. " - Its a truck horn on steroids.
  25. I am in an ambulance agency that gets dispatch by the local PD and let me tell ya I'm beyond ready and waiting to switch to county control Dispatch. Our district is within two differnet police department jurisdictions and things never go smoothly when one has to call the other to dispatch us, meanwhile haveing to keep the radio on one of the two police frequencies makeing simple scene observation imposible when a medic or police car gets there first (usually the case). central dispatch is the way to go...I could say much more on this but will leave it at that.
