Bottom line no matter the time no matter the place, wether paid or vollie if your Department and Mutual aid units cant handle what is dispatched then you have no Buisness operating as a FD. I see what your doing here Bnecchis trying to open our eyes and start some table top talk which is good. Sometimes the situation is beyond our means to control as quick as one would want or vision, that can happen to anyone. In a situtation like this the first due or IC must consider how many people need to be removed from the building and relocated withinn and we all know that task will be tough with residents who always cooperate lol. We could go on forever about this. Good topic to open up some minds etc. One thhing they had to thier advantage that alot of us dont have here in Westchester is NO OVERHEAD WIRES so trucks can prove to be majorly effecttive.

@ Tommy guy. First off The Village of Elmsford is in the Town of Greenburgh. Woodside ave is in the Village of Elmsford. Elmsford was first due as it is thier district. Where you are talking about on Warehouse lane is the non incorporated section of Greenburgh but is not in the Village and Elmsford protects that part of Greenburgh due to the fact they are the closest FD. Just an FYI the Village line goes all the way up to the Knollwood country club on that side of town but thier fire district does continue past that. Hope that clears up the cofusion somewhat.

The house is in the Village lines as 2115 stated and yes units were met with heavy fire condidtions upon arrival. Great Job by all to knock the fire down on the main fire building quickly and for making an agressive intierior attack on exposure B and stoppping the fire there which had extenion in the walls 3rd floor and attic. Exposure B was very labor intensive due to balloon frame construction. All involved did a hell of a job. Sorry for the pain that both familys have to go through.

Tough day for so many today. Rest in peace John heard many good things about you. Condolences to the family. The BFD brothers and sisters showed great heart and strength in not only attending thier own fallen brothers wake but also Lt.Tyler Rush of Elmsford. That spoke tremendously of the Briarcliff FD and their resolve and support.

I am one for Consolidation. I think if done right it could save taxpayers in Westchester money and possibly be more beneficial to the FD for service and operations. IF DONE RIGHT! With that said why does it matter so much to everyone who does not live in Yorktown. Wether it will turn to be a mistake in the future or a added benefit why do we as memebers of this forum demand to seek answers.....if in a educational way than I could see it. Questions like does this help your response time, will it benefit the district and the people living in it better. I would assume without asking...... that answer would be yes. Ive had the pleasure of working with Yorktown as a Mutual aid department over the years and they are a Proactive aggressive knowlegdible department. Thats why Yorktown has a Mayor, board of trustees, fire commisioners, fire cheifs etc.......Let them and thier taxpayers worry ...... And if one day we consolidate as districts and a county to provide fire protection etc then thats when we can worry how many Firehouses and trucks we have and where thier located.....And we should stop using the word consolidation including myself, WE CANT EVEN COME TO HAVE THE SAME GEAR AND ACCOUNTABILITY TAGS, Some say its cause of the small tight knit commutnitys that are impeeding progress and the politicians....wrong....its the fire service as a whole and greed. The fire service is 100 years of progress impeeded by tradition......We are all to blame. So for now why not just worry about your District unless its for a educational purpose.....cause no matter what we think , Yorktown is going to do what Yorktown feels is best for them. Just as a big city like Yonkers would. By the way looks like a nice Firehouse.

Kudos to Fairview FD for getting out there and helping to educate the local community which seems to house alot of college students. At that age im sure fire safety and smoke/ co detectors are the last thing on thier mind. Hopefully this outreach by them will prevent another tragedy like this.

ONE WORD SOLVES THIS AND MANY OTHER ISSUES Consolidation.....you can do it many different ways....start with the departments in the same Battalion. FirNaTine i agree management can be done better concerning our resources. But if you ask me I think in most of Westchester there are to many ladders and so called heavy rescues. Also what my Department does when we take a piece of equipment out of our district that is vital to our community/ district we thrn backfill. You may ask then where does it stop hmmm thats the million $ question.... I agree if you cant fullfill your district with proper fire protection and dont have a plan to back it up when you leave you should then manage the mutual aid plan before the call. But it did seem in the IA that there was alot of mutual aid on this job for a PD but thr I C knows best at that time and bottom.line everyone went home.

JBE . Its not so much about being accurate with the bucket as its to teach the firefightera operating it wether in the bucket or at the turn table how to feather the hydralics and gain confidence using it in tight spots. By feathering the hydralics i mean not jeking the ladder all over the place. Mike Wilbur teaches a great class and is a wealth of knowledge.
