Exactly! Its a trickle-down effect. Some big pharmas are stopping low-profit production lines and moving the employees to higher-profit/output lines to avoid layoffs. The demand is still there and it falls to the other big pharmas to play catch-up ball. Add to that demand companies that have merged and haven't been granted approval to operate again until the FDA pushes through the paperwork.

They've started popping up around me,....I've heard a few complaints that they drive more like a sedan. It's my understanding the undercarriage is from the Taurus? Is anyone else hearing the same complaints?

The Dude abides,.... Looks like a chase car,...who provides the actual ambulance service?

A local story that's hitting close to home for me: File under "The System Worked!" On Monday, April 30, Ron Immel, EMT/Supervisor for Good Fellowship Ambulance Club, responded to a medical call, along with Chester County Hospital Medic 91. While packaging the patient, Ron went to secure Medic 91's car when someone heard him collapse. Immediately, personnel found him unconscious behind 55's ambulance. He was found to be in V-Fib arrest,...CPR was initiated and he was defibrillated at the scene back into a sinus rhythm, ultimately regaining full consciousness upon arrival at CCH! As of today, after a battery of tests, the cause was unknown and he is scheduled to be discharged tomorrow. I can't attest to Ron's overall state of health, but as emergency providers, we work long hours, endure rapid escalations of stress, and probably don't eat the healthiest of meals when on-duty. Personally, this time last year, I was 270 lbs, had tremendous back pain (in part due to advancing arthritis) and lost so much sleep I was nodding off at work. I'm now down to 225 and I have a few more to go (so says my doc ), but its not all about me - we all need to look after ourselves. We all won't have Ron's good fortune to be surrounded by a lot of competent care providers. Stay safe, brothers (and sisters)!

Being from Philly area, is this because NJSP is getting out of the business?

Sorry, late to this thread but, AVOID "Welcome" ambulance. I will PM you why. Also, White Rose in York County does City of York 911 as well as BLS/ALS/CCT transfers.

Weather was lousy today, so I didn't break out the good camera, plus I didn't know if I'd have much time after breaking down our old disaster trailer, doing inventory and stocking our "new" trailer! Anyway, this is our new UTILITY 87, a 2012 Chevy that will support our bike team and disaster strike team. We're still waiting for the lighting package to come in, as well as a cap for the bed. The trailer is a 24' owned by the county as part of Pennsylvania EMS Strike Team 11. It was previously stationed atElverson EMS, but they no longer expressed interest in participating. Our current 16' trailer will be re-located to Honey Brook FC. I'll post the new 87-5 if the weather is better next weekend, when I'm back on-duty!

And "Ambulance Might Respond"
-
Do you think this situation is a threat to us at home? As we continue to capture would-be terrorists on a regular basis and, even though the media won't acknowledge incidents like Ft Hood a a terrorist attack, yes, a nuclear Iran is a credible threat on our soil. Do you think that you as an emergency responder here at home face the possibility of another 9/11 type asasault due to our or our allies actions or lack of them regarding Iran? See my previous reply. What our allies do or fail to do is another debate. Do you think sanctions and an oil embargo will prevent Iran from aquiring nuclear weapons? States openly oppositional to the US, such as Russia and China, will continue to undermine any sanctions. Do you think we should return to the negotiating table with an openly hostile and traditionally dishonest regime? If so do we trust them to fulfill any agreements reached? Negotiations did nothing to stop the Balkan War, made deposing Saddam Hussein harder than necessary, and legitimizes regimes like Iran. And any multi-national negotiations will involve the UN, so see my previous remarks. Do you think we should strike unilaterally and destroy their facilities and means of production before a weapon is produced? The production facilities are too fortified for conventional weapons to be introduced from our current positions. However, that computer virus that crippled their systems wasn't a college prank. 'Nuff said Do you think we should encourage and/or support Israel (or other allies) in that type of operation? Yes. If you didn't read it right the first time: YES! The biggest mistake in leaving our military presence in Iraq was how much it reduced our staging abilities in the rest of the Middle East. Think West Germany during the Cold War. Do you think we should engage in covert operations such as sabotage of Iran's nuclear facilities and sources of funding? Already being done, and if I heard right today, even Switzerland shut off their ability to make international funds transfers Do you think we should engage in the assasination of Iran's nuclear scientists? I think its reasonable to assume the Mossad has already been inserted into Iran and is actively engaging in this activity Do you think we should encourage our allies to engage in such covert actions on our behalf? Our allies have neither the money or the balls to engage their enemies these days. That's why we're always doing it for them Do you think we should engage in open hostilities or even declare war should they close the Strait of Hormuz? If not then how about if they do indeed build the bomb? We've been in a state of war with Iran since they invaded our embassy. Iran has no capability to project their forces much beyond their border, and will most likely harass and provoke us to respond. That'll be a big mistake Do you think we should just leave it alone and insist our allies do the same to prevent a war? USS Cole? 9/11? Too late,... Do you believe there is another option or options? If so what are they?

Hi all. My name's Ed and I've been in the FD/EMS biz for 30+ years. I used to go by the nom-de-forum of TCA-ALS25. I was a FF1 volunteer for several years, but work, school and now health issues prevent me from keeping that end up. I'm the ALS Coordinator for TransCare's Philadelphia-area operations, as well as a career medic and fill-in shift supervisor for Uwchlan Ambulance in Chester County. I'm also a member of their component of Chester County Strike Team 11, a section of PA's Disaster Response Team. I'm born and bred Philadelphia and recently moved to the peace and quiet of the western suburbs (as I type this the local fire company just came blaring up the road to a fire call in town ( ;-) ). My connections to a forum 100 miles north of me? 1)I have family in Arlington, Dutchess County and 2)over the years I've had the pleasure to meet (in person or in the virtual world) several fellow TC employees and associated Hudson Valley emergency providers! I'm currently enrolled at the local community college, fast-tracking dual AAS degrees in paramedicine and emergency medical management. I love reading how things are done both, FD and EMS-wise, in the Hudson Valley and NY at large because I don't like thinking where I am is ever the center of the universe and everything is the same everywhere. Good luck and stay safe to everyone on the board! Remember: Semper Paratus - PPPPP!

For those of us old enough to remember: it was a throwback to Reagan's "Morning in America" re-election campaign commercials. My only political issue is this is from Chrysler, which was bailed out by the government and was aired right after Obama said in an interview he "deserved" to be re-elected because the economy would rebound in his second term. Playing the devil's advocate, it sounds like Chrysler was pumping up Obama as payback for the bailout?

I didn't like the first gen cars, but the new ones are bad**s!

Looks like the Dodge/Mercedes Sprinter vans some ambulances are using.

I don't agree with the "YUCK," per se, but you do have a point. Some of us from the horse-and-buggy days will remember red trucks being demonized as "unsafe" and "slime lime" was the newest, bestest, safest idea for fire apparatus. I think chevrons will someday fall into the same category, simply because the "wow" factor will eventually wear off to most people. I also have the same mixed feelings about adding a blue light on the rear of the trucks, too. I'm sure police cruisers are no safer now because they have red and blues than they did a few years ago (down here in PA, reds and blues have been the norm since the 70s).
