Quantcast WHITE plains City seeks candidates for firefighter exam Candidates are being sought for the White Plains Fire Department. The city will conduct a written Civil Service test for firefighter candidates on June 27 and is now recruiting men and women. Candidates must register for the exam by March 26. The exam is open to Westchester County residents who are at least 17 1/2 years old on the date of the written exam. Firefighters in White Plains are paid between $50,941 and $79,895 per year. The Department of Public Safety will offer free training to help candidates prepare for the written exam. Application materials and announcements can be obtained at www.cityofwhiteplains.com or visiting the city Personnel Office at 255 Main St. between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on business days. Well then put the fire number around 35. And at this point the 11 are actually 13 due to attrition.I think the point to be made is the 11 Lt.s had their positions taken away.The jobs are still there to be done yet they are not back.To me that is not the same as "vacant " positions that will eventually be filled.

Pretty much the same system in Yonkers.Unless you can provide proof of residency chances are nil,however the tests are still administered by the state and could be a good learning tool for those looking to take exams elsewhere.

I was having this very conversation yesterday(it's daily isn't it though?) with a friend who now has to speak at a meeting involving state aid to private schools.There are no vouchers,and now the state wants to cut what little aid there is.You already pay school taxes whether you use the schools or not.So now tuition will go up as well.Iknow ,I know,thats his choice,but its one in a million examples of how everything is being trickled down to the taxpayer, and it all boils down to the govt. in bed with corporations that dole out billions for profit.This is it,something has to break,and yes it did start with a tea party.The rumblings are getting louder every day.

Had the same conversation with a chief,(now retired),and his response was that he was in awe of how deep our guys are now entrenched and his fear was that we are too protected and you may miss exit indications.He also said not to listen to the old timers that brag they did same work,that the work didn't even compare.
