Billy liked a post in a topic by SOUSGT in 911 Tower Lights
Last night I drove one of our engines to the Liberty State park for to have it photographed with the tower lights in the background. This was my first year participating although my department has sent vehicles in the past. The site affords an amazing view of the city and the lights emanating from ground zero. While looking at the lights, I had a chance to reflect on the events both of that day and every September 11 since. The tribute in lights reminds us what and who we lost. Sometimes “we shall never forget” simply is not enough.
May all of those who were killed on 911 and have died since rest in peace knowing that you are not forgotten and we have picked up the torch and will carry on!
Also a special thank you to the organizers and volunteers that made this happen. It was well run and a worthwhile endeavor. Not to mention the site chosen afforded an amazing view of the tribute in lights.

Saw this on KME's Facebook Page
Stephen Altieri > KME Fire Apparatus
So just last week several staff from the Town of Mamaroneck traveled to the KME plant to check on the status of our 2017 KME engine 36 that has been at the factory for warranty repairs since March 19 2019. With seven items to be repaired only four of the seven items were repaired in the four month period and three new defects were identified
This seems to be poor performance on the part of KME. To the management of KME how does the Town get its truck back in service?
Stephen Altieri
Town Administrator
There appears to be no response for KME.

Billy liked a post in a topic by Bill204 in Get Dispatches recorded live
Just wanted to share this website to anyone who may be interested.
911dispatches.com
The site records audio of dispatches for a bunch of departments throughout Westchester and can text or email you the recording as soon as it comes in. You can subscribe to any department, and don’t need to be associated with any particular agency.
They offer a free trial and the rates are reasonable. I’ve been using it for a while and it’s been working great.
Just wanted to share with everyone.

Billy liked a post in a topic by LayTheLine in FDNY Runs & Workers 2018
I look forward to this list every year. To see the workload & breakdown the stats can keep me busy for hours!!
Couple things I picked up on:
1) It shows Squad 18 as having responded to 120 runs all year. I am wondering if they mean Squad 8 and the stats for that company in December when it opened and then accidentally skipped over Squad 18. ???
2) Engine 62 in the North Bronx sees a lot of work. From listing to the radio and reading the rundowns, it sounds like Division 7 (North Bronx) had a very busy year. It seems there were many "All-Hands or greater" within 1 mile of the Westchester County border. The Bronx in general seems to get their fair share of work.
3) I was surprised to see that Battalion 43 in Brooklyn, only responded to 18 "All-Hands or greater". I would have guessed more than that just based on the numbers for the surrounding Battalions (42, 33, 58). They are far below the 2nd slowest Battalion (47) which had 44 "All-Hands or greater".
4) You've got to love the City Island (Bronx) pieces that turn a wheel maybe once a day at best. But if they weren't there, along with what would be long-runs for any other unit going in first-due, you could lose 1/2 of City Island with one fire! It's a small area but the fire load is compacted pretty tight and you need to protect it.
5) Battalion 50 in Queens was the busiest with 200 "All-Hands or Greater" and they are always up there which makes sense because they are so centrally located and if they aren't the first chief in they are the 10-75 chief for many abutting Battalions.
That's my VERY UNOFFICIAL first glance impressions.

Billy liked a post in a topic by bfd1144 in Mutual Aid Membership
Looking for anyone with information (specifically policies & procedures) regarding mutual aid membership in another fire department. My agency is exploring this and I'm curious how these programs are run and how insurance coverage is. I know it is increasingly popular in NYS (with bunk in programs) and now Yorktown FD is also doing a program. Any info would be helpful, or message me.
Thanks

Billy liked a post in a topic by AFS1970 in What defines a Squad?
A neighboring town has just placed a new engine into service, however they call it a squad. I have a friend in NJ who calls his ambulance a squad. We used to have an engine called a squad in Stamford but changed it to an engine, I was told because the same mattered to ISO. Another neighboring town used to call utilities (including old chief's cars) squads. So what defines a squad in general? I believe in FDNY they are engines with enhanced equipment, which of course brings with it dedicated personnel trained to use that equipment. So do all the departments calling their engines squads make this distinction? What about the places calling their rescues squads, do they do something that other rescues don't or can't?

I believe this was purchased with a grant for $325,000 from New York State due to the department being one of the primary responders to incidents on and around the new Tappan Zee Bridge. I think the brand is Lake Assault.

Billy liked a post in a topic by x635 in Site Status
The downtime was due to issues with the host, which have now been resolved. The ads, albeit a bit intrusive, allow me to fund the site with less money out of my pocket.
You should be able to see and post in the Incident Alert forum once again. The Archive setting was only temporary while I moved some things around, but I didn't realize I missed a setting. I've also moved the Incident Chatbox back to the top of the site.
I've also consolidated the site a bit, to try to make it easier to read and use. Any suggestions to how to make the site better please let me know. Also, please let me know if anything seems out of whack.
Thanks @AFS1970 and everyone for your continued loyalty to the site.

I know the site has been down a couple of times recently, but I have noticed a couple of things as it has come back up. First of all adds are covering parts of the site at the top of the screen, although not blocking any real content. But I also see that the Incident Alert section is now archived and we can't add new ones. That was probably the most active section.

I think that is facing east from Larkin Plaza looking up into manor House Square? - I beleive those apartment buildings in the background are on the dead end of overlook terrace. The building on the left I think was a bar (Ryan's?) just west of Philipsburg Hall - The motorcade is entering the north side of larkin Plaza heading west toward the train station.

Here's a few. Credit to the original photographer.
It looks like the YPD changed from black/white to blue/white somewhere around 1985.
I know I'm bumping up an old thread but I'm doing it to hopefully spark some more photos of vintage YPD cars. I'm looking for photos of '90s YPD Caprice's
