Ok why is it every time someone puts on here about someone getting a new toy, everyone says kinda how they don't need it or there are 4-6 around them? Here it is, Wappingers is looking into a new truck good for them. Long over due. the same s*** happened when Hughsonville got their rescue, everyone said 'oh, they don't need it, its too big, its too much money'. If every dept. in southern Dutchess wants their own ladder who cares? Its not my dept. its not yours. If they all wanna be self sufficient, good for them. Just seems like every time someone gets a new toy everyone has something to say thats not good. And as for can they guarantee they will get it out, can any one guarantee anyone will get all there trucks out? No, they can't unless your paid. I know of a fire in southern duchess where a capt. of dept. A had to go to dept B and drive there rig to there fire. Jetphoto you know what I'm talking about. Everyone in southern duchess works very good with each other. As for what I know, the truck is very much needed. Also to BFD1054 if you didn't know 68-45 is out first on 98% of there calls most of the time, and due to the way it was set up also can act as a first due.

Like what, a Prius? What are they going to use that can still carry their gear, prisoners, pursue bad guys, and not give the officer clausterphobia?

Since, its unlikely to need Evacuating in the next 48 hours, the real question is how do 100,000 riders get to work and how does my child and all the other students in New Rochelle, Mt. Vernon, Yonkers, White Plains and the other communities that use them for the school transport get to and from school.
Those are real issues. We all know the IP plan is a joke, so what difference does it make if they are on strike.

You do not need hose to buff...but a big red truck with red lights & siren gets there faster.

I have been doing this job as a volly & paid longer than you probably been alive. You are no longer insulting a company. You are insulting me. What my fellow employees that care & I bring to the table is good pt care. No matter what uniform we wear. I am sure you could even learn a lesson from us. Oh wait you couldn't. You have blinders on. We are not perfect, but we try & do. If you actually knew who & what you where talking about. Go away cause I'm done with you. You don't call people that do their jobs Skells.

So then apply to MLSS? No one, except you, can figure out where you should apply and what jobs you should accept. I really feel like you're asking us to pick for you - you went on the interviews, you have to go with you're gut tells you is right and where you think you will be most happy.

On 11/23/11 the Hillcrest FD and Hatzollah Ambulance Squad was dispatched to a one car MVA on Route 45 in the village of New Square. It appears that the on duty, code enforcement officer for the Town of Ramapo had a heart attack while driving. The car stuck a fire hydrant.

I have two:
I used to live on a tiny street that led out to a main state road. We had a call (volly) for a baby seizing in the house on the corner of the tiny street and the main rd. The address of the house was on the tiny street. As I came down that small road looking for the address, the elderly homeowner (pt's grandma) was on the tiny street, in the dark, waving me over. It was a febrile seizure. No big deal, but the family was well panicked. They needed more care then the baby did. After the EMS crew left, and I was leaving to go back home I saw the elderly lady who had waved me and asked her why she was not in the main road waiting for a first responder. I never met her before in my life. She said, "I have seen you come by with your blue light, so I knew you would be here."
#2. I was going to the hardware store in Sept of 2010, in my own car. Call came in for a bee sting reaction less than a minute away. I was about 10 minutes from the EMS station. I went to the call, with a BVM and a radio. I was led through the house to the back deck, where a lady was dying. Blue as blue, no detectable pulse, foam coming out of the mouth. Some movement in hands. + bee sting in last 3 minutes. I advised on the radio of the arrest, got her supine and began to bag her. Other members arrived and we began CPR. I updated the crew to bring the Epi-pen, AED and suction, which they did.
My day job is a medic. I don't know which end of the pen the epi even comes out of! (ball breaking comments gratefully accepted; and deserved) This kid from WEMS (who we use to staff our ambulances)came charging around the back yard, epi pen in outstretched hand and slammed that thing into this lady like Ahab harpooning Moby-Dick. The CPR was flawless and the scene time short. NO MEDIC available. Closest ED was Putnam. On loading the pt, she had a weak carotid pulse, a nearly useless respiratory effort and was still blue. On the was to the ED, the WEMS kid called med control and got orders for the SECOND epi-pen! (again, I am a medic. Who knew you you could do that?)
Someone introduced me to the patient this year at the towns 2011 September 11 ceremony. I was speechless. I said "I haven't seen you since..." She finished the sentence, "Since I died. My new birthday is coming up this month." The luck of me being close, but mostly the aggressive no-delay treatment by the WEMS crew and the good CPR by the other extra folks who arrived on scene without a doubt yanked that lady straight out of the grave. NO MEDIC involved. Putnam could not do an intercept. One of the top 5 hottest job in my 30 years, but credit goes to the other guys. I hope they see this.

Another factor is that there is typically higher turnover in police departments, with more annual retirements as compared to most fire departments in this area. These vacancies are simply not filled, leading to a "natural" decline in the size of the department. NYSP has not had a recruit class in several years, NYPD recruit classes have been minimal in size and barely make a dent in replacing the numbers of police officers retiring each year. Many local police agencies are at their lowest manning in recent history, with no signs of improvement in the near future, and ever since 9/11 with counterterrorism duties now an added responsibility for local law enforcement, the old adage "do more with less" is straining law enforcement agencies ability to continue to protect the public, yet the job still gets done.
The decreasing size of departments through attrition leads to overall reductions of manpower within the ranks of the department as well (i.e. decreased uniform promotions, decreased manpower in specialized units and details, etc.)
Fire departments are obviously not immune to the state of the economy, and face a lot of the same issues police departments do with the factors previously mentioned.

Some of these agencies if you look on their websites still have that they're 100% volunteer. It would be nice to know who to talk to about getting hired at some of these places but I guess it's all about who you know.

I thought I would add some photos from the area as well. St. Mike previously handled NICU transports for hospitals in the area. I thought I had a picture of their Medium duty NICU truck but can't find. I included an older UVM truck, 2007 PL Custom, at the FAHC helipad with North Country Life Flight. Others are Burlington, VT 2009 Osage and E1 E One. Sorry, SMRS is not the best quality.

Take my words to heart. Even if you think I am full of poop in my firefighting posts, this is the best advice I can give you...ever.
Now is the time for the YOUNGER Firefighters and Police Officers to watch that money like a mama bear guarding her cubs. If Gov. Cuomo (who is probably getting about eight government pensions) tries to take, borrow, rearrange, or touch your pension in any way be ready to pounce.
It is YOUR retirement he wants to play with. Your future is at risk. Take it personally because it is.
Your retirement will come sooner that you think...protect it!
