  1. Wow, you can save lives for less than what Home Depot pays, some deal!
  2. I have yet to go in to any of the mentioned places and have a positive experience like I did in blue line tactical on rt 9a in Elmsford. Was asked if I needed help immediately then had some interaction as well. Buckshollow is a group of nice guys but you need to ask them and paying full retail when you can be a few clicks away from over 30% off is kind of foolish.
  3. Not sure if any of you were watching it live, we were since we were at a promotion party. They had a tower ladder set up with a fog nozzle, wtf good is that?! Water wasn't even making it to the fire.
  4. Yeah it would have made a huge difference. You would have had someone who didn't win a popularity contest actually in the position and who was trained to an exact level.
  5. gain on an antenna only works one way, and that is transmitting. 20 feet is a big difference. Can you talk to PD from your radio? Perhaps they use vehicle extenders as opposed to speaking directly to the repeater site. Give us some more info on where you work. And calling your vendor will just equal money. Do the prelim stuff on your own.
  6. Building was marked dangerous by the Capt of Engine 75. The bodies were found in a collapsed area that was not able to be searched because of the building being unstable. No one made any mistakes in the FDNY if anyone is to blame it is DOB or HPD for failing to maintain the security of the building.
  7. Who cares, the City will just ignore it and everyone will be driving in my case 12 year old apparatus with spotty AC and incandescent warning lights and have no right to say no to operating it.
  8. FACT! Truck should always make a move for life.
  9. No cons, except from the losers on facebook that want to be tough guys yet have never either read the NIST research or have had to visit a friend in the burn center. I was afforded the opportunity to get an 8 hour lecture from one of the head researchers at NIST responsible for collecting the data and working with the FDNY CFD and I think Baltimore FD. That 8 hours changed everything.
  10. Drafting in New Orleans after Katrina was a four man job, myself and three other guys knew how to do it! We had to teach the other guys. Great times!
  11. The two main officers if thats what you call them are very very experienced guys that know this stuff inside and out. They also teach it at First Line Supervisors Training Program for NYS that is held in NYC. If you can get access to one of their classes be sure to take it.
  12. Don't buy a camera because you think the meter is good. Not even the same animal! Call these guys, http://www.safe-ir.com/ ask them what they think first. They use them and teach them daily, and by use I mean actually go to fires with them.
  13. MSA Evolution. we have them at work, I have never seen one break, EVER!
  14. They aren't personal insults, they are observations based on facts. But you are right, this is going away from your original post.
  15. The issue guys is not him losing his job. It is the fact that he was not granted his pension for a disability which was incurred from work, and has been legislatively covered by our labor laws. Forget the job, this man needs his benefits that he is due. Many a man has succumbed to workplace related illness and it is because of this we as employed people regardless of profession need to fight for this mans rights. We have the heart bill, we have the cancer bill, we have 9.11 prescriptions, we have all these laws that are in place because of guys before this! And if you didn't know about your care being your onus after you retire someone should have told you. Friend is out from a neck injury, even as a 20 year guy he didn't believe me when I said get it all done NOW before they put you out. After its your copay, your PT benefits amount of visits. And for the guy referencing New Rochelle, that City doesn't give a rats behind about its employees, yet the men and women continually keep that place safe and clean, all while the city continues raping the tax payers.
  16. And you my friend are a man who has no values. You have no clue what it means to feed your family from your trade, regardless if it is hanging sheetrock running conduit or leveling pipe. So your willingness to 'help' others is in fact NOT helping anyone but yourself and your ego, and that is a FACT!
  17. Sorry, if you are doing the work of two men you are a fool. Pride in workmanship means you do the one job the best you can, and that is not the work of two men. And I am surrounded by Peekskill and Mohegan, I won't respond to either of them. Let them hire more men.
  18. I've been volunteering about 20 years and been getting paid for it for 12. I am not a hypocrite. Serving my community was something I believed in, people with your attitude just leach from the community and complain about their taxes going up from the gross appathy of people just like them! No way ever the town I live in will sustain a paid fire dept, ever, ambulance service yes, but no way they will double it up, not even a possibility.
  19. Bottom line, if the volunteers don't show up, they HAVE to hire more members. It is cut and dry. Now if you volunteer somewhere and are professional fireman somewhere else, it doesnt apply. Look at the IAFF magazine, what do they add like 5 locals nationwide each issue, and those are already paid members without representation. If they said tomorrow they were adding paid staff where I volunteer I would quit as of 2359 tonight, and if you are in a union somewhere else and volunteer in the same place you are a scab.
  20. The people in the district aren't 'Brother's' they are people elected by the town. They dont give a flying fluck about the members.
  21. You can not compare it with a combination dept. One guy is doing for free what you are doing to feed your family. I would not want to sit with a guy who would be the one stealing the fork out of my mouth, or worse my wife's! Outside of the work place setting is where you see it. But at work you are at work, where you get paid to do your job. And to be honest, the 'brotherhood' is about what happens when you are not at work, not being paid to do something, that is what makes it so special. I have helped at guys houses I hated, why? Cause its not about personalities, it is about the bond that if I need help they would be there too.
  22. You will notice the roof. Saw one recently on a 4 on 12 pitch roof in the Bronx, that one you could barely see, but once you got up there you would notice the elevated platform.
  23. I think a good cross cut saw will get through it no problem! If you all lookup I think its NEWXalerts on facebook they have photos of this mess. We are all lucky no one was hurt!
  24. This chief has no clue, what saw does he posses that will cut through a metal deck roof?
