  1. Obviously no one who has replied has ever been a mile or two in the woods with an indian tank and a rake. Jeans and a pair of boots with ankle support is a perfect combo. What good is the wildland gear we carry? All it is made of is a nomex material, which will do what? prevent ash from burning through it? Id rather walk up 20 flights for a project fire than walk a mile on flat ground in bunker gear. Try it, but don't say I didn't warn you when your feet swell up.
  2. That guy got destroyed! They come out of the barn with some force out there! No one is taking my seat on the rig lol!
  3. Ive worked with some women that are a pure joy, know the job and more importantly can physically do it. I also worked with some who are not worth the uniform on their back. I would prefer to have one in a supervisory position as opposed to one I am supposed to rely on for a job to be completed that is physically demanding.
  4. Stay away from faith and family, your wife is not family :-) If I worked with someone openly gay I would avoid that one too, way too many derogatory comments that could be misconstrued.
  5. Ever see an airbag go off after the fact? I don't really care about traffic or accidents caused by other morons not paying attention. I care about the safety of myself and the rest of the people I am working with. Just disconnect the battery. Just last week had a stolen Audi hit a parked car and have full airbag deployment. The car could not be placed in neutral, or have the parking brake released. we had to bounce the car over to get to the hydrant shut off beneath it. These engineers are getting way too smart!

Anyone know someone who works there? I spoke to a female dispatcher yesterday who was mildly retarded at best. I called to report a disable vehicle practically in front of the building, this woman asked me for a mile marker, after she sensed my displeasure with the response, look out the window she made a quick exit. How can these people NOT know where the Taconic meets the Bronx River?!?!

Its a joke, and the way you all stand up for these incompetent people is also a joke. No one here can ever just agree when someone criticizes, it is always the person with the complaint who is wrong. This is the same apathy that many people deal with when dealing with municipal workers, always the reason when people ask me for help or a stupid question I take the time to answer it or help them get the information they want. This lazy POS was sitting in a chair in an office not doing 55 mph on a highway in a 4k pound missle. I am so glad I don't have to work with many of you, cause you would have a miserable time.

Im not admitting I was wrong cause I wasn't. I am driving a car, reporting a dangerous situation, not sitting in an office. I am attempting to do something much more important for my own safety than someone else's. Sorry for my selfishness. The van was about a quarter mile south from the 9A entrance to the Taconic in the Southbound lane, how much more exact can I be? The road is three lanes wide and the mile marker is in the right lane. Had I called and spoke to a Trooper they would have said no problem as they would actually know where I was talking about. I guess all of you just assume you should get the bottom of the barrel and when you don't you should be pleasantly surprised. When you call an FDNY dispatcher and report anything they know what you are talking about, cause they know the area, streets, companies, pct's, probably even know the CON ED supervisor that covers the area. This person was useless. And please identify where it is you work that you have such superior dispatching. Half the time I listen to the radio locally the only good ones I hear are ones that do it in house, not out of some central unit with the exception of the Putnam County Sheriff.

Sorry I shouldn't expect someone to know their job or the locale they work, or the fact that saying you would need to access this point from either 9a entrance to the TSP or from P'ville road. Same thing happens when you call NYC 911, you get some dope who asks you for an exit number, sorry, 233 st is not exact enough for you? Yet another reason I usually never call to initiate help for people. And just note that the prior times calling all the MEN I spoke to were professional as could be!
  10. I don't think they have a pension or civil service protection.
  11. LSU is nothing more than a utility body on an F450 Chassis. Just add backboards. Another pointless apparatus in the fleet, I think it was created cause they bought too many of the utility rigs and had to do something with them.
  12. You can carry more than two supine patients, ask me how I know! Still a pointless design, when was the last time they had a need for 10 o2 spots.
  13. Its a fireman who is on light duty, it has gatorade and water, and wet towels, that is it. If you need an assessment it is your own choice unless you come out looking like walking dead. If you are a volunteer organization good luck getting someone to fill up the ice on a daily basis, its hard to remember on the truck, let alone when it is sitting out of site and out of mind.
  14. If money is no object, Eska all the way, next best is protech, anything else is a set back to the oven mitts of yesteryear. The more dexterity you get the better the contact between the liner and your skin, which is why some have complained about the removal of the pro-tech with a wet or sweaty hand.
  15. You shouldn't have an Altair and a 5 star if you work in NYC, or a Sirius. !0% for inside, 20 for outside right?
  16. Stay away from the light switch, and if you need a light, be sure to activate it outside, unless of course it is Class 1, but do most people really know what that is? Also the explosive range for Natural gas is very tight, if you look at the amount of explosions from it and the amount of responses it is quite small. Having a meter with LEL and knowing your conversion factor to natural gas is a great tool, just know how to use it.
  17. Take the windows for god's sakes! And FIVE guys standing around outside!
  18. Go hang out in front of Metro Tech, you will wonder why you had to show ID when the perps out front are smoking their newports and cackling like hyenas.
  19. Don't use the action level as a time to 'mask up' as someone stated. It is one thing if you are dealing with large apt buildings another if you are dealing with Private Dwellings with natural gas sources. Teach your members to monitor at the door and then when they get in. Teach them about the difference between fuel sources, how oil you will smell, Nat Gas and Propane you will not when it has burned. Teach them what H2S is and why it is dangerous, the hydrogen, and where it is found. Most importantly teach them to NEVER follow another member if they see them go down, don't double the problem, go get an SCBA not another stretcher. I have dealt with hundreds possibly thousands of CO and gas leaks, complacency is real dangerous, especially when you deal with things like CO and Private Dwellings, where usually it is BS but when you have people with symptoms its no joke. Had a run for CO in a PD, had no further info, we get there as usual, and get about two steps in and meters go off the chart, all of them, another important thing, never rely on one meter, especially if its an IDLH, always verify it with a second meter as well as do a fresh air setup in fresh air, not next to the rig. Long story short, a malfunctioning flue pipe generated 800PPM in the first floor, higher in the basement, almost killed 15 people. It is rare, but when it does happen its a bad situation!
  20. I had 20 friends that worked there, they had a blast! Much better than Crapital Cities lol
  21. Giving someone the wrong information because you don't have experience is not advice, it is your opinion. Not discounting it just making an observation from the inside. I had to deal with the CI people for months because they didn't believe a signed lease and cancelled checks was an acceptable format for proof of residency, I also know from working on that floor of Metro Tech what to expect. I told him my advice via a PM which is what everyone should do, since as many of you pointed out, you NEVER know who is lurking on any forum.
  22. Not a single person here works for fdny so where does your expertise come in? I told this young lad what to do. I hope he listens or gets the point and follows the instructions.
  23. Buy frito lay stock!
  24. High Island has a standpipe along the new bridge that was built out to the Tx building and the care takers residence is vacant probably because of FCC exposure limits, last time there it looked like it had been empty for a long time. Hart Island is only accessible via Dept of Corrections Ferry from Fordham St and it runs only in the AM and PM, never at night. Hardly ever get boxes out there since it is usually unoccupied or has DOC employees working on it.
