  4. I understand that this grant program is meant "help fund training and equipment purchase for first responders in the vicinity of the Indian Point Energy Center", but why does some of the grant money get allocated to programs such as Somers Youth Sports Organization or the Friends of Muscoot Farm? I am not quite sure how kids playing soccer in Somers or Weschester County's Muscoot Farm fall into the "first responders in the vicinity of Indian Point Energy Center". Wouldn't this grant money be better spent by giving it only to responders?

  7. There are a few previous posts that deal with this. Here is a link to one that lists several different frequencies as well as sites and PDFs that will give frequencies to program: I know that there is another one that I believe was pinned, I just can't seem to find it...if anyone else has something to add please feel free.
  8. Is there something wrong with you? People are dead from this including a young father of two and EMT as well as members of our nations military not to count the dozens and dozens of those who were hurt either physical or psychologically by the sick actions of this man and will require therapy for the rest of their lives and you go making a joke? Posting the article is one thing, making a joke is another. Shame on you.

  10. No, it was one graduation ceremony for several classes.
  11. Sad to say that the most recent update states members of the military were either killed or wounded in the shooting. The death penalty is not even justice for this man, if we want to call him that. Thoughts go out to all those who lost someone and all those involved in this horrific tragedy that will have to live with it for the rest of their lives.

  13. Yep, it tops out at a whopping 65mph. It also comes with an extra 9 volt battery for the electronics and lighting package.
  14. Haha, maybe over in Europe. I am laughing at the idea of someone in their Suburban or Excursion (those that still have them) or any of the large size SUVs and trucks on the road here stopping for this. Or better yet, watching a half dozen or more of them in a "high speed" pursuit of a stolen vehicle, that would make the highlight of my day.
  15. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=1884 Used to use this before I had my scanners. I still use it when I want to hear things that I may not get on my scanner. It is with a delay and you may not get just the one department that you want to hear, but I think this is closest to what you used to get with Scan60.
  16. http://www.jems.com/article/news/maine-emts-treating-more-cardiac-arrest An interesting article about new methods provided by EMS in Maine. Is this something that you could see your department or agency doing? Which also leads to the question, are EMTs and paramedics trained or expected to be able to deliver a death notification to the next of kin on scene?

  20. While I agree that there is a lack of use with other programs and the medical alert bracelets and necklaces are far more used, it seems to me that they have thought the idea of multiple people using the same car through as well as a quick and fool proof way to identify who is who. Complete both sides of the personal information card as fully as possible, in pencil. Attach a recent photo of yourself and place it in a visible location in your car’s glove compartment. Complete one card for each person who regularly occupies the vehicle. See below to request additional medical information forms Those are the direct steps that the New York State Sheriffs Association tells those using the Yellow Dot Program to follow if they choose to it in their car or home.

  23. Are you referring to the function that most cell phone providers offer?
  24. What about the creation of a MERV for Westchester County? Creating it would be very easy and you could staff it out of Valhalla. The bigger issue would be staffing it, but we already have units such as Haz-Mat, Special Ops, Field Com 1, etc. staffed and capable of responding 24/7, why couldn't we do that with a MERV. In the most recent case that everyone is talking about in New Rochelle we were fortunate in that FDNY was able to bring resources BUT we were ALSO lucky in the location that it occurred. If the same incident happened further north in Westchester and farther from NYC and the resources that FDNY has to offer what would responders have done? Sat and waited for a Bee Line bus? Waited for one of the local school districts to lend a school bus? Would the creation of a MERV and the dedication of a fully staffed and ready to respond crew help alleviate some of the issue that EMS in Westchester faces should there be an incident like the one in Virginia Beach or do you think that it would just add "too many cooks to the kitchen" and create more issues?
