Fire Dept's wouldn't need as much water, if they would just use FOAM. I don't understand why it's taking so long for this concept to be comprehended by the people in charge. Maybe there should be a class given around different parts of the County so people can be educated on this. P.S. I'm talking about Class A Foam

Let me try this again ! In my opinion, every fire dept, especially where there are water supply problems, the Fire Dept. should have class A foam. You use less water and you have a quicker knock down time on the fire. The County should hold classes on Class A Foam at the training center to educate the people in the fire service who make the decisions for their Dept if foam should be used or not. I'm not talking CAFS, just add Class A foam (small amount 0.3% to 0.5%)to your hose lines and you would see a big difference in your firefighting abilities. I can't believe no one is even talking about foam, there are extreme water problems in this area. I think the reason people don't want to talk about Foam is because not many people understand the benefits and the ease in which it is used, and that's a Dam shame!

Does anyone know how many gallons of water comes from a well per minute ? If this is the secomd time this house burned down maybe they could have put in a residential sprinkler after the first time it caught fire. You only need a little water in the beginning stages of a fire to knock it down. Also does anyone know if South Salem FD has class A foam. In my opinion, every fire dept especially where there are water supply problems, the FD should have class A foam. You use less water and you have a quicker knock down time of the fire. The County should hold classes on Class A Foam at the training center to educate the people in the fire service who make the decisions on if foam should be used or not. I'm not talking CAFS, just add Class A foam to your hose lines and you would see a big difference in your firefighting abilities.

Can someone tell me, when are the Departments in Northern Westchester going to start using class A Foam ? If you have water supply problems and you use foam you will use alot less water. You can cut your need for tankers in half and have a quicker knock down, no matter how big the fire is on arrival.

Class A Foam should be used everytime you flow water for a structure fire, car fire or if possible brush fires (all class A fires) and training. Then you would be using it more often. It's true, you need to be trained on how it works. Just like any other tool we use. I do not see what the big deal is. Go out and test it and see for yourself!

Someone at the County Level, needs to get in touch with Foam pro or another company and have them conduct a demostration at the training center. Pack a car, truck or bus with wood pallets light it and put it out with water, then do it again with foam. The differnce in knock down time and the amount of water use is dramatic. It's apparent the only way people will believe it is, they have to see it with their own eyes. You do not need CAFS, just add class A foam to your hose lines and you would see a big differnce. Again Every department should have Class A foam, especially in Northern Westchester where water supply is a big problem.

Every Department should have class A foam on board to use on all structure fires , especially if you have water supply issues (Northern Westchester). If you use foam you will use alot less water. It's hard to change the way we think and do things in the fire service because we've always used water. If departments took the time to look into it and practice with foam. I think it would open alot of eyes.

Does anyone in Northern Westchester use FOAM ? If not, they should really look into it. They would use alot less water! Also Put the fire out alot quicker.

People should identify their dept. name before their numbers, ie.. Hawthorne 2191 to 6o control, Valhalla 2481, Ardsley engine 165 to who ever . This way it will cut down on any confusion. But to many people take short cuts and try to sound cute.

Hey Stat213, If you did away with all EMT'S we would have to change the name of this web site to Paramedic.Com LOL

It's not just a tri-district response. Most fire dept's in Westchester call mutual aid , no matter how big or small the fire is. Very rarely does a dept. put out a 1 room fire on it's own. The reason for this in my opinion, is the lack of Manpower. Most dept's activate 3-4 dept's for a small 1 room fire, whether it's north, south or central Westchester

51truck What departments are you talking about ?

This goes to the moderator of the site. I was wondering if I could ask a question about the pictures in the incident phots of the Croton fire on 7/1/05 ? It also could be about the picture in the Journal News on the same fire.

Wait untill you see this truck in person. You will see it is a bad paint job. doors and the frame of the truck appears to be different shades of blue.

There are always Police/Fire and EMS personel having Lunch there. GO there and order a " Cancel the Engine" sandwich. All of Frank's food is really good. He also has a place to sit now.The Cafe Has a big screen TV and also has hand painted pictures of Yankee Stadium and Elmsford FD apparatus plus other scenes..

You still Need make believe personel to drive and operate your make believe apparartus in your make believe Fire Dept. Thats the REAL problem in the county .Every Dept. has nice & big fancy apparatus but not the manpwer to operate.
