Great job Officer DePrimo!! Far too often our good deeds go unnoticed/ignored by the public and the press. Things like this occur everyday, maybe not $75 for a set of boots, but food, and just a kind word or two.

BigBuff liked a post in a topic by Remember585 in South Salem FD New Ladder?
First of all, I believe that thus far, it is only speculation if South Salem is actually exploring a Ladder/Quint.
Secondly, in the years I have been at my job, I can not recall an instance where the SSFD did not have manpower to cover an incident.
Lastly, I don't see how all of you armchair quarterbacks can say they don't need an aerial device of some sort. Let's assume there's a fire at Four Winds on Route 35.
Ridgefield - 6.08 miles away
Bedford Hills - 8.65 miles away
Somers - 10.98 miles away
Katonah - 6.51 miles away
Croton Falls - 6.46 miles away
You're looking at no less than a 10 minute ride, not taking into consideration travel time to the FD, traffic issues, weather, etc.
If they're doing it, I say good for them.
But I do agree there are some out there that don't need to exist...

(I researched a bit..) Somers operates with 5 Engines, 2 Ladders, 3 buses, 1 brush truck, and 3 rescues (one for scuba rescue) and a few utilities. Somers FD dispatch did 7 tones, and only got a chief and the paid ambulance (over the air). The other day, they had something like 10 calls (Fire/EMS) in 1 day and covered every one of them. This is uncommon for Somers, I have never heard of them failing to cover a FD call. (I am not listening at ALL times, obviously)

Lenny's ashes were laid to rest over the weekend. I will not say where, as it is not my place to do so, however his parents/family did a wonderful job of getting together friends of his from several different walks to join them in the ceremony. It was a beautiful day, and a beautiful setting for such an event.
Having been through all this, it still doesn't feel real. I think about you every day man.

Personally I don't think the Crovwn Vics are suitable for being Chief's vehicles... Between the amount of equpment they are carrying these days and the lack of a natural command area "tailgate" but thats my oppinnion.

So,
What every happened to this thread anyway? There are so many new screen-names, so many new people, yet few if any have ever bothered to "Introduce themselves."
Like "Sailr322". And "Larchmont Boy" to name just a couple. Care to "introduce yourselves?"
To me, this site kinda weirded out a few months ago. Seth in an RV in NY suddenly, yet all discussion of the topic is dropped. No questions asked. Hey if it's personal biz, it's certainly none of mine. Yet you kind of made a big deal about it....then suddenly the whole subject is dropped.
The "moderators" who used to constantly be on the site; it's rare to even see them around these days.
Some of the "regular posters?" Poof gone.
Something very strange happened here a while back, I've noticed, has anybody else?
I don't know, the whole situation is a bit bizarre if you as me.
I guess the wort part was losing Lenny "10570." I guess we can't make that up.
So come on, how about some REAL intros? It's been a long time.
And what is the status with "certifying members?" Does the site still do that, or has that gone the wayside as well?
Just wondering.
Stay well. Sad day 911/2012.
Edit: I could post the alphabet and get a half dozen likes these days. Another VERY strange happening.
-Just sayin'

I have a cousin who I knew worked at the World Trade Center but I didn't know where until the 10th anniversary. She sent me a picture of her pass for the 79th floor. I don't know which tower, and I won't ask her, either. She'll say when she's ready.
She didn't go to work on 9/11.
Instead, she took the day off to go to the pound and get a puppy.

I'll take your challenge Chief Flynn.
I do not think you are a friend of the volunteer fire service. Nor do I think you truly believe in the "Brotherhood" that is suppose to exsist between all firefighters in this country and around the world for that matter. I'm sure that when you meet a firefighter and find out he is a volunteer you think of him on a different level.
What makes me think this is true was due to a series of posts you made a few years back.... where you said something to the effect of "volunteer firefighters are not the same as career firefighters, save all the that talk for your wives and girlfreinds who will believe it" Again not exact but something along those lines.
There may be some differences between the 2, but when firefighters respond to a working fire and the crews are stretching lines, throwing ladders making the push with the line to put the fire out WE ARE THE SAME. DOING THE SAME JOB at that point. The meat and potatoes of a firefighters job is the same volunteer or career. You still refused to hear that and made posts against anyone trying to suggest this was the case.
Those posts were filled with an underlying hate and despise for the volunteer fire service.
Maybe you were having a really bad day and those post were an impulsive error in judgement. I really hope so.

1) I did not claim they were owned or not owned by the municipality....YOU did...and I asked you to site your source...So I am still waiting for you to prove your theory is valid.
2) You nor I said anything about career vs. volunteer...but what about combination depts.? I now many combo's that the station is owned by the municipality and it was owned and built before they hired career and career depts. that the stations were always municipal even back when they were 100% volunteer.. They include Eastchester, Fairview, Harrison, Hartsdale, Greenville, Larchmont, Mamaroneck (town), Mt.Vernon, Mohegan, New Rochelle, Peekskill, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Portchester, Rye, Rye Brook, Scarsdale, White Plains, Yonkers.
Some of the 100% volunteer depts. i believe have municipal owned buildings: Ardsley, Armonk, Briarcliff, Croton, Irvington, Mamaroneck (Village), Millwood, Ossining, Purchase, Somers, Tarrytown and Yorktown.
Now in Westchester that alone is more than 50% of the depts.
In studying 6 depts in Dutchess (1 career, 2 combo and 3 volunteer) all were municipally owned.
3) If it is a fire district that owns the building then it is government owned. If owned by a fire company then in most cases it is not.

Show up to the dock late and you missed the boat, my friend. I'm not bashing the career guys (as a whole), nor would I ever. The moral of my story is "people who live in glass houses". I know our side of things has its issues, and I'm doing my best from the inside to fix them. I take care of my own problems before I say something about someone else's. And if I am on a sinking ship (gotta love the nautical references here), I don't try to drag down others with me. However, I heard about this man in particular within weeks of first joining the service. In my years in, his name continually comes up in stories about his (mis)exploits trying to shut out volunteers. So perhaps I harbor a vendetta. That being said, the media has the right to pound salt. All they do is blow things out of proportion and make changes that much more difficult. And yes, I would bash anyone personally who tries to throw us as a volunteer organization, to the wolves.
PS: "Going out on a limb" is fancy speak for ASSume.

Yes, please launch a media attack on the volunteer service. (sarcasm) You, sir, are a known enemy of us volunteers. Don't make like we haven't heard of your exploits trying to get volunteers shut out of the service. Deal with your own problems before you attack us. Got a problem with the way things are done? Volunteer and help us out. I'm not saying we are perfect, but I'll be damned if you think you can spread your volunteer hating rhetoric without opposition.
Have a nice day :-)

Are you for real? First off 46.26 does not dispatch Somers, and secondly, what large incident did Somers not respond to? In or out of district? I have maybe once, or twice heard that Somers did not cover an engine to standby in YHFD HQ. Never did I hear them not get enough manpower o/s of a "large incident" like you said.
If I remember right, didnt you say you lived in Somers? You see the structure fire a few weeks ago, they had enough manpower that an engine was parked on the side for the duration of the event. You see the brush fire a few months ago? Tons of manpower. Now, your turn to tell me the several large incidents they didnt show up to. Very Common is the LAST thing you should say about them, they had 6 different trucks out at 2am the other night for the thunderstorm that rolled by, but they dont show up to large incidents, huh?
Please, elaborate.

Negative. If memory serves me correctly, the breakdown for agencies dispatched by 60 Control are as follows:
Staffed Fire and EMS agencies: (Dispatch) - One minute to respond
Unstaffed EMS agencies: (Dispatch) - Three minutes to respond - (Redispatch) - Three minutes to respond - (Redispatch) - (Dispatch) mutual aid agency
Unstaffed Fire agencies: (Dispatch) - Five minutes to respond - (Redispatch) - Five minutes to respond - (Redispatch) - (Dispatch) mutual aid agency
