6. While we're on this topic are the DOT help truck drivers (State Farm Help Trucks) trained for any sort of EMS situations? Do they have the ability to communicate with 60 control, or local police?
7. Does anyone know if Police / Fire departments have control over the digital signage? Or perhaps 60 control, or is it controlled thru some DOT garage?
8. I know this was touched upon in the Yorktown Station 3 thread but thought it would be appropriate to give it its own thread: Just wondering what everyone thinks about the AMVET bridge overhaul in Yorktown and how it will effect responses? Seems like once the project is over it will be much more friendly to emergency service workers. According to Yorktown Patch, the following improvements are planned besides the bridge overhaul: Installation of 31 Blue tooth traffic sensor
Installation of 7 traffic cameras
Placement of 29 portable message signs
Installation of 3 median barrier gates
On-site tow truck service for morning and afternoon 3-hour peak travel periods
Construction of 10 emergency pull off areas
Alternate emergency route signage
9. Seth made a great point, This is something that normally doesn't come across most FAST teams minds,... I Hate to say it but it would be interesting to see how various FAST teams would react to a situation such as this
10. The Southern Part of the district is primarally residential, (wooded) with the exception of the IBM Watson Research Center, located within a mile of the "Proposed" Firehouse. strang: If you don't mind me asking, how is he no longer a Captain because he was the Chauffeur of an engine? He is still a firematic officer, and takes the role of I/C until a "higher" officer is on location.
11. RIP Buddy, Any word on funeral arrangements?
12. And already Al Sharpton (The Tri State Area Racist) is commenting about the American's who oppose this...
13. 2534 is a Captain. 253:1-3: YHFD Chiefs 253: 4-5: Captains 253: 6-9: Lieutenants As per yorktownfire.org: Chief Clint Loretta (Car 2531) 1st Assistant Chief Chet Swirski (Car 2532) 2nd Assistant Chief Doug Gollogly (Car 2533) Captain Jason Swart (Car 2534) Captain Paul Dillon (Car 2535) Lieutenant Jeff Slotoroff (Car 2536) Lieutenant Derek Grisanti (Car 2537) Lieutenant Tim Mentrasti (Car 2538) Lieutenant John Lembke (Car 2539) http://www.yorktownfire.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=301
14. I have heard increasing talk lately about electronic accountability systems ranging from proximity systems to radio "keying" and I was wondering of the very few departments which have this technology, what you guys think of it, and in general, can a system like this be trusted over "Old Fashioned" accountability systems such as tagging?
15. Station 1 is owned by Yorktown Heights Engine Co. #1, NOT the Fire District. Station 2 (and future station 3) are owned by the fire district
16. Just a little off topic, but weren't there "suggestions" that Yorktown was also going to switch to County PD?
17. I agree, I hate it when Volunteer firefighters are held to lower standards, especially by officers of the volly dept... however, I do think there should be some sort of legislation mandating that ALL hydrants that are not in service have a not in service collar on them. My neighbor has an old hydrant he uses as a mailbox post and I know that the Water Dept. tagged it w/ one (although any FF who thinks that a wet barrel hydrant from the 30s with a mailbox attached to it is an operable one should be "checked out")...
18. the 60 calls per year explain why their appratus are in mint condition. Besides that, it is obvious that the departments are well funded, as nothing is really out of date (at least from what I see in the photos), actually ive seen some departments in central NY that receive several hundred calls per year that don't have anywhere near the equipment pictured above...
19. interesting, would be interesting to compair the accuracy of this with the machines used by ems. Personally I think this would be more of a target item for someone with cardio issure rather than emergency services...,
20. I hate to say it but it will either take a severe illness or fatality for this to change.... Its sickening to know that the government will work up a sweat to overprotect the fish, but when it comes to situations like this, the government doesn't do crap....
21. thanks, great to know... also, I like the Mc Bulk CO2 label...
22. although it is obvious some sog were not followed (at least sog that exist in my department), I actually think they got lucky parking where they did, who knows what else could have been in its way
