  1. All things aside from what has been since mentioned. It's a wonder this class isn't a 10 or 12 month class. Too much material in too little time, yet were responsible to know it regardless whether it's covered or not. 3 1/2 months is just too much cram and jam.
  2. Kind of reminds me of when I was with Transcare, having to put Insurance information on the PCR. (Seriously) Luckily for me I do in all honesty have background in "Medical Billing" as well, so had sense enough to ask patient what insurance company was primary, secondary & if applicable tertiary! Lord knows it would come back to bite some-one if it wasn't put in the right order and it was overlooked by billing. Claim would come back denied if it went to secondary first.
  3. I don't recall radio procedures ever being taught in EMT class. Not even so much as getting a hand-out. Another neglected subject matter along with PCR's discussed here yesterday
  4. VelcroMedic, I wholeheartedly agree, concur and understand exactly what your saying here. There is definitely alot of subject matters to cover in so little time to address them. Perhaps oversight on my part to remember it is the "State" that designs the curriculum, not the instructors. As for increasing the class to 600hr's? That is asking a bit much. The class I was in, some had a hard enough time keeping to the minimum acceptable excused absences.
  5. Excellent topic for discussion, and very good point that should be addressed and given more attention than what it actually gets during the EMT-B Class. Surprised it is only briefly discussed and touched on. Yet this is probably the most critical part of the job of an EMT. It becomes part of the patients medical record, as well is considered a legal document. Especially if your ever subpoenaed to court. Any EMT instructor's reading this, might want to give this document a little more time than what the average instructor affords it.
  6. Antique, at the same time someone like Zimmerman should had exercised restraint as well as applied "common sense." Don't be looking to play hero or superman, or even make believe he's a police officer which in a sense is exactly what he was hypothetically playing the role of. He may have been part of a neighborhood watch or whatever you want to call it. That more or less play a role of that similar to a "Security Guard." And even a Security Officer has no police power. In two words I can tell you what their job description and duties are, and how much power they really have. "OBSERVE & REPORT."
  7. Excellent point Arbrow, and good way to "FAIL" an EMT practical station is to neglect or forget to say "BSI SCENE SAFETY" Even though you did everything correct & as meticulously as can be!!
  8. Best way to go about answering this question with reasonable intelligence would be to establish what power if any a 911 Dispatcher has, from a "police" stand-point. Obviously the dispatcher doesn't want to be held liable or responsible for putting the caller in danger, and certainly wouldn't be encouraging or expecting the caller to follow Martin soley for that reason of possibly putting himself in harms way. What the caller can see visually is all the dispatcher can go off of and document the information caller is conveying to the dispatcher. That would be my guess. The dispatcher instructed Zimmerman not to follow probably for this very reason.
  9. When I worked with Transcare Hudson Valley as an EMT-B, starting pay there was 10.25hr mostly did Non Emergency Transports. Not sure what they pay in the city, I interviewed with Empress in Yonkers a few months back, they weren't offering much more than what I previously made in Poughkeepsie with Transcare. So I would venture to say 14.50 being generous?
  10. Transcare is the same deal. I was a new emt with limited experience, and didn't put me with one steady FTO, just threw me in with a different crew each day. From what I hear, Transcare has been doing off and on hiring then cutting back on hours and down sizing.
  11. What is hiring status in Fishkill? They have what they need far as EMT's or they just looking for Paramedics which I seem to be told every time I check back periodically, or are they looking to add additional staff for Yonkers?
  12. Obviously if "Health Insurance" is being billed, the agency has to negotiate with insurance companies, to give them the opportunity to accept or decline their increases. Its not something that can happen overnight.
  13. They were Empire State, Hudson Valley Paramedics, Regional EMS, Now Care1 EMS. They have a new base in Yonkers, which from what I've heard, correct me here anyone if am wrong or being misleading, but am understanding that is primarly just an interfacility transport operation, don't believe they do any 911 Calls out of Yonkers, as that is served by Empress. They also have a base in Fishkill and Pleasant Valley. I think I heard that they may possibly loose that contract in PV, anyone whom has heard the same and may have additional or updated information please advise.
  14. Kind of curious what she was doing walking in front of the aircraft with the aircraft running, period? Relaxed tarmac ettiquete would be my guess. Something about the story and how this reported doesn't sound right. Tell me this model didn't know the plane was running, for real?
  15. Was curious if anyone could enlighten me as to what the pay is with Care1 EMS is in Yonkers?
  16. That's ok, sorry I took it the way I did, I guess I need to take a chill pill, and try to relax, after all were all in this game together.
  17. Wish they did but they don't, I've looked but to no avail. Perhaps one will be forth-coming in the future. From what I'm hearing and learning, sounds to me as they are a subsidiary of and are owned by and service a number of nursing home's, which company that owns them, don't have any idea about that either. No information of or mention about this in the other thread on Care1 EMS either. Apparently either nobody knows, or wants to say. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing?
  18. Management, Thanks, but already had mentioned in the other Care1 EMS thread that I'm actually interviewing today. Wish me luck, I'll share the results. Have a Happy "Safe" Thanksgiving. Brian
  19. What did you bother responding for if you weren't going to provide "Intelligent" feedback? "Happy Thanksgiving."
  20. This a year round or seasonal gig? Might be worth my while applying there, would be much closer than applying to Care1 EMS Yonkers, being I live in Poughkeepsie.
  21. I hear you, I should had retracted the post. Thanks for the suggestion.
  22. Seriously, 156 click's, (view's) nobody can shed light on a "ball-park" figure of what starting pay is with this organization in Yonkers?
  23. Firecoins, Curious if you can enlighten me and shed some light on Care1 Ems expanding to Yonkers. Am interviewing with them this week. I would appreciate if you could share some insight on this whether you would apply, why and why not. Sometimes expansions such as these work, sometimes they don't just finding it odd their moving into Empress Ambulance Territory.
  24. They had an ad in the Pennysaver looking for EMT's & Paramedics They're opening a station in Yonker's. Should be interesting on how they fare, as Empress is pretty dominant in Yonkers.
