  1. What are the stations in the CPAT test?
  2. I had seen a version of this in Fire Engineering or Firehouse mag some years ago. The jump seat was extended out and the stretcher was placed in from a wide swinging door on the driverside of the rig. Thought it was not a good idea then, and I'm not liking it too much now. The risk of contamination for all parties conserned are high I iwould say. FF's to bio hazards and the aided case to the million and one things we would track in with our bunker gear. I would look into contracting a private EMS provider before I would be going with this idea. They coujld still run first response. But the transportation should be in an ambulance. Not a $400.000 engine.
  3. What I would like to know: Is how NUTTY did you have to look, to stand out among HUNDREDS of other people taking photos. For it to stand out to a cop.. Think about it guy..
  4. Better yet. DO NOT GIVE THIS GUY ANY OF YOUR MONEY. Buy a bootleg copy.
  5. The NYPD use to have a paddy wagon looking vehicle that was armored. They would sit in the back box and had polls that were hooked up to the peddles, and stearing. This was from back in the day of the green and white department autos. Look for an old armored car book. And you may find a photo of it. I know I have seen it a few times.
  6. If he was still on the loose I can't imagine him being to hard to recognize.. RIP..
  7. Instead of second guessing this thing. Why don't you come up with some alternatives. Like. Tell the guy to call a private ambulance and transport her to another hospital. I can tell by half the people that "contribute" to the discussions in these posting that you have very little. If any, "real life" experience with half the crap you post in here. Spend less time on here and more out in the world, and you might get a clue. You can't hold a persons hand all through life...
  8. In NYC they handle civil matters only. They are like repo men in the city. You as a plaintiff can have them execute a civil court order for you for a fee.
  9. The repair shop you see in Queens is Queens Central Repair. That is like the HQ for Fleet Services. The major jobs like rebuilds and stuff are done there. That is also where "new car" is. When new purchases are done that is where they install equipment. Around the corner is the radio shop, and that as you can figure is the place the new computers and radios are put in. Each boro has a "fleet services shop" Some have two, and the boro is split on where they go. Some have specialty stuff like a body shop as well. These shops are where most of the PM stuff is done. They will also do some of the liter work mechanical wise. The major sutff goes to queens. The place that the department usually gets the cars from has an office in LI City, but the shops are out in NJ. I can't recall the name off hand but you can get state bid stuff from them too. This plant also does the markings on the sides witht he exception of the command and car number, and they also don't put on the department seal.
  10. Joe was a true gentleman, and an asset to the fire service. I remember many a night sitting with him topping off the master bottles on Rescue 37 after Briarcliff had a cascade call. His devotion to duty was never in question. I consider myself lucky to have known him. While I am sorry to see him pass. It comforts me to know he went doing what he loved. Rest in peace my friend.
  11. Those are plate readers. The scanners run plates that pass by it. Suspended and stolen vehicles will pop up on the in car computer.
  12. I think the door seal is a nice touch. You should take a sander to that thing while it's parked on night.
  13. What do they mean about "volunteer" 16 hours? Does this mean they will work their regular tour, then do an additional 16 hrs?
  14. The detoiur is put in so the least amount of traffic is disrupted. If you were going to get off at 233 street, why be forced off at Gun Hill road? Also. 233 will let you run across to 87 then you can take that to Central Ave and rejoin the Sprain in Westchester. We have to think, why is it that the traffic posts even have to be manned? It's a waste of manpower, but if you didn't, some retard would drive around the barriers and you would have to do water rescues. Welcome to NY!!
  15. OK, so what's the (whole) story?
  16. They used the alert system for the train wreck with the truck in Bedford Hills like 2 yrs ago.
  17. This is news on here. why?
  18. The world is still turning. Lets move on..
  19. I would say it all depends on what duties the person is expected to handle. Should a 65 yr old be working a line in a structure fire? Perhaps not. But should they take care of "station duties" that would free up other FF's that ARE interior. Why not.
  20. Pete is in charge of the Tech Resq Team and Haz Mat. The new truck is Chief Gasspari. the Chief of the Fire Brigade and the head of the FTC.
  21. Most people have listed the equipment that the agency will provide to you for making it an emergency vehicle. The thing you should really be pushing them for instead of lights and siren is to cover the insurance. Because just as stated above. ANY reason that the insurance industry can think of for NOT paying out yoiur claim, they will do. Trauma74; That is an EXTREAMLY large list of equipment you are required to carry to get the Emergcney response Vehicle status. Do you write that whole thing off on your taxes? because I would make every effort. I think you could show it's pretty much exclusive for EMS use. Hatzolah has members with all kinds of vehicles registered as an "ambulance" running around. I woudln't try to be the first test case of being non-Hotzolah and register it as an ambulance. But apparetly you can do it somehow.
  22. Didn't you know your not allowed to eat, or do anything that might take your mind, off your troubles for even a single minute. PS. slow news day..
  23. I think Pound Ridge has some type of program. I'm not sure how many houses they have though.
  24. J Edgar Hoover had the same policy for the FBI back in the day believe it or not. To cut down on accidents.
  25. Somebody, won the UGLY design contest..
