  1. I doubt this cop just picked this individual on the bike to take retribution on . You know this A hole was doing something off camera on his way up the block. During the RNC they had one night where the bicycle brigade converged on Manhattan. I would have liked to taken a club to them like they were seals. So I can understand this guys situation. Don't always believe what the media feeds you. They load the news to sell it.
  2. Did you have an electrical storm early in the evening. Down here we did. You will often get stations from greater distance when the electricity in the air is cleared out. Years ago. We (stations in Westchester) were getting a department in Fla. This was due to "skip". And like once every 5 years or something like that, the conditions are just right, that it really effects radio waves more than usual. Good listening.
  3. First off it's a civilian position. This requires you to live in the five boros. Look at the police department employment site. I believe they list the Communications jobs. It may be an open fileing process for that position. So I test may be given frequently. If you can't find the site. Watch the newspaper The Chief. That will list it in the back when the test comes up.
  4. X635. The Battalion Chief IS the Deputy Coordinator. They are still titled Deputy Coordinator, but their response area has been labled "battalion" now. The Deputy's are working 24/7/365 at times, just like in career service, you will have DC's overlap or cover for one another. The reason for the battalions is just to show what DC covers where. Several other counties like on Long Island use the battalion system as well. I don't know if they have Deputy Coordinators or what their titles are out there. But we are not the first.
  5. Emergency Service and the other NYPD Special Operations units do not make hazard pay. They are at the same level with the precinct cops. This is something that the PBA wants. This is to avoid any type of division among the ranks. That being said. ESU avation and a few other units have members promoted to Detective specialist. This gives them a boost in their pay. Years ago, there was a program started then killed just as fast that would have allowed officers to be promoted to Detective Specialist and remin out on the road for patrol. This was to try and keep seasoned vets out on the streets and in precincts while giving them a little recognition for their hard work etc etc. Well that program died because of the PBA not wanting to loose members (DEA-Detectives PBA- Police Officers) they viewed it as an attempt to divide the membership. All the Detective Specialist that were made got the choice of either giving up their shield or get transfered to a unit that had detectives. I'm not sure if the city really needs Police. Because according to Ray Kelly , Bloomberg and especially Gullianni. They all say it's THEM that are reducing the crime in the city. To reconrd numbers no doubt. Yet I have NEVER seen any of them walking a foot post, riding in a radio car or standing for hours on some detail. How can they do it? it's like magic. And if they can do it from their offices. Why can't the regular cop on the beat stay home and remove crime altogether? Food for thought. PS.. I would like the FD work schedual myself. Who wouldn't want to work 2 days a week!!
  6. Don't be to excited.... There are givebacks .....
  7. $100 says the Feds are going to come in withthe infamous "Civil Rights" violation. That's the governments version of a catch all. Most certainly they will loose their jobs in the Departmental hearing. So. It's not over for them yet. It's really only just begun.
  8. It carries the big airbag for jumpers
  9. You know how you explain it Ben. You explain it like this. You put the rig in service when you have people trained to use it. We don't send the police out on patrol with a gun before we send them to the range to qualify with it. Same thing goes for our equipement. Why would we send the rig out on calls with a person that only knows how to drive it and not use the accessories on the unit. It's a faulse sens of secuirty to have a rig going to a call with no one knowing how to raise the ladders, or how to operate the grounding jacks. Unlike cities like NY. Departments around here don't have cookie cutter designed apparatus where everything is exactly the same. We also purchase it about 15 years apart. So the chance of having two rigs eaxaclt the same, yet put in service several years apart is slim to none. If your worried about what to say to the public. Then print this out and read it to public verbatum.
  10. Departments use 33.96 because years ago. All departments were to use 33.96 for dispatch, and 46.26 for fire operations etc. Only a few departments were actually on it. I believe Pelham, Pound Ridge,Millwood and perhaps Portchester were among a few. I don't know who still uses it now.
  11. How the hell did this guy get through his origional Paramedic training?
  12. Seriously. I can't believe they don't just toss out the photos of emergency vehicles. I know the red light cameras in NYC pick up FD, EMS and PD marked vehicles all the time. Those photos are not persued.
  13. I don't think the problem is him stepping out . It's the attitude that he had regarding everything. Very pompus person. He's getting his. And the poster prior noting that he has nothing but scandal in his time in office. You could not be any more correct. Troopergate is a total joke. The committee investigating the whole thing is getting hamstringed at every turn. I concur with you on the Lt. Gov. he's REALLY no better. We are going to see some out of control social programs being proposed, so make sure you all sign up for as much overtime as you can. Millions on welfare are counting on you.
  14. The markings you see on the Adam car are more or less "unofficial" decals. ESU generally displays a special patch that was put on their vehicles that list all members of the service that were killed on 911. The photo you have shows one that the members of Truck 3 put together and had made up as a tribute to the officers from their truck that were lost on 911. The harlem thing is something that was put on my members of the unit as well. I'm sure if someone got a big enough hard on about it. The word would read POLICE again by tomorrow. (a lot of ESU vehicles have an old "navy" sticker on it saying ANYTIME BABY) The blue lights are coming back. Slow but surely. ESU generally displayed a blue light in one of the rotators in the rear of the vehicles. It was more or less done by their choice, because the department up till about 6 months ago fought the display of any blue light on the vehicles. ESU works with Federal LE often, and the feds display red/blue as a standard light package. NYPD is putting blue lights on more of their vehicles to include the motorcycles. The visability of Blue at night stands well. The blue will be used in secondary lights, like flashers to the rear, or back deck lights. Hope this helps
  15. ESU usually fields 2 of the adam/boy cars a tour. The staffic usually only dictates they have enough for that many. You will usually see the tour supervisor for that peticular unit (truck) riding out on the heavy rescue (know as THE TRUCK) This rig usually only responds to heavy jobs or on special call. There is a Lieutenant that rides citywide on some tours that is a U car. They will also respond on heavy jobs. The vehicle with the Zodiac ,you are refering to. Rolls on special call, to certain jobs instead of or in addition to the TRUCK. The Tactical unit and the truck usually carry some diffrent equipment to cover the variety of jobs. The equipment throughout Emergency service is pretty standard as far as the adam/boy cars and the truck and tactical support unit. Depending on what unit they are assigned to might find them staffing vehicles or equipment that they would not usually have out ie: bomb trailer, Peacekeeper (armored car), MALT (lighting truck) , air bag (for jumpers). The Bomb Squad does not have units on patrol, but will be assigned at certain events to be in staging, or they will be special called to scenes by units in the field.
  16. Before changing over to a PAID system. Explore merging districts or a duel response system. It works all over the country for volunteer, combination departments.
  17. I don't think the question is CAN they. The question is WILL they. The Feds are very reluctant to share their computer data base with municipal law enforcement. And if they do it's on a very controled basis. Another question is. What are the cops going to do with all the illegals that they do identify? The INS isn't like a ball of fire in their response to pick up people that are IDed as illegals. This I know for a fact from previous experience. Another question is will the municipality have the balls to allow their cops to do this. You have cities that are declaring themselves "safe havens" and the like.
  18. The FREE kind..
  19. Chappaqua sold their mini attack some years ago. And it was sold on E bay the poster is correct. Chappaqua has 3 chiefs cars. One of their Deputies may also have a car, but I know the second deputy uses his own.
  20. It depends on the department.
  21. I don't believe Souther Westchester has any. But Lewisboro, Somers, North Salem and Pound Ridge do.
  22. Bravo Zulu (good job) to the crew of the USS Ronald Reagan. Nothing to good for our citizens.
  23. They should be investigating the little perp that needed the a** beating in the first place.
  24. Good article/letter by the PC. Too bad PC Kelly can't find a set of balls the same size to stand up the libral media in NYC.
  25. Identity theft is a big MO used by Nigerians.
