  1. This is what makes America GREAT!!!!
  2. I think Purchase has a ladder truck. And Millwood FD has the Chemical Pumper. Briarcliff has an engine. Thornwood has a Chiefs' car.
  3. TBENDICK: I don't know how to do all the cut and paste stuff so I will just write it out. I didn't mean the beer trucks with the ads still on them. I'm talking about the rollup door style. They raffel one just about every year at the Firehouse Expo.
  4. The actual rig is in MAnhattan for the RNC. They have "Hammer teams" that are deployed at events, and they just need too many of them at the same time. It will be returned soon I'm sure. If I'm not mistaken, don't we use commercial beer trucks as heavy rescues? Cassidy needs to save his energy to address more serious issues .
  5. I think Hays Hose in P'ville has a pole. I don't think it's in use. The main reason that poles ar not around anymore is they have been outlawed in a sense by OSHA. Your pretty much sliding at your own risk if there is still one out there. I would imagine that a pole would still be in use in either setting vol or paid if the down room was on the second floor. They don't HAVE to be an access from the bunk room.
  6. Keep the system. As annoying as they are, they still serve a purpose. While not "as" crucial to the mission of the fire service as they were in the past, it is important to have some type of back up to our pager system. It also provides in giving notice to the public that the FD is nor responding to a call, and that they should be alert to responding members being called into service. I know. There is someone out there saying. "It's the members responsibility to use due care" While this is true. Isn't it nice when we get a little help from the public? I know it helps me out.....
  7. "So what you are telling me that you have at your disposal for a quick response an unlimted amount of resources? I think not. You are also saying that your ambulance/fire dept NEVER utilizes the mutual aid system". The only department that can say no to this is in "Fantasy Land" and Chief Claus is responding. Some places are worse than others, Yes. But in the big picture. We are not doing bad for ourselves. Or our communities.

  9. Are you really going to miss them??
  10. RWC130 is correct. The Police don't need the added work at the dispatch console. Other calls for service and radio traffic are coming in all the time. Not to mention the people off the street needing their own "special attention" It would be doing everyone a service if the PD dispatcher could hand that fire/ems call off like a hot potato to someone that have the resources to dispatch both. There are some PD agencies that have to actually change over the radio at the console to dispatch a fire call, Then monitor the other channel on a Bearcat scanner. Good luck to them!!!
  11. Remember not to carry ammunition or cans with compressed gas in it.
  12. I think the "membership" issue dates back to when "volunteer fire companies" were very important groups when it came to political elections. It was a common practice for politicians to try to win favor with one or more companies. These were large pools of potential votes.
  13. I don't know what the diffrence is between YHFD's "advisory board" and those stupid signs up at the intersection advertising the Yorktown Players doing "Zorba the Greek" and "Fiddler on the Roof" for about the millionth time. Or, perhaps it's the fact that people actually read the FD board? hummmm Yet another thing to ponder.
  14. Let the Dispatchers dispatch and the Firefighters fight fires and answer the alarms. All these independant agencies dispatching is counter productive. If an agency wants to dispatch themselves let them get oonto their own frequency so they arn't in the way of those agencies that wish to comply.
  15. Millwood FD got best antique for their 1924 Brockway.
  16. I've heard from the County, Rye Brook,P'Ville. I know Briarcliff is looking. I don't know how many slots they have open.
  17. Yea. I heard it was taking a long time go get the paperwork through.
  18. The TRT that serves up in the north section of the county is all volunteer. I know they practice a lot and have drills at least 2 times a month. They are very progressive in training and if you have any interest in getting involved I think they would be more than happy to take you in. If your interested contact control. 607 can set you in the right direction

  21. Alternate use of frequencies is key to fireground operations. The only person still on 46.26 at a scene should be the IC. All other units should be working on a tactical frequency. The IC should be monitoring both. Poor radio discipline at the company level is a contributing factor.
  22. Take notice!!!
  23. ALS. Your right. There are several agencies that should take their EMS off the the main FD dispatch frequency. The using the radio like it is a telephone is out though. If a busy job with it's own dispatchers has that much to say, it would prove more effective for the agency as a whole to go to their own frequency like Elmsford.
  24. ALS you have struck the nail right on the head. I have NO PROBLEM with them repeating IMPORTANT INFO, but listen to them. You will understand what I'm talking about. 90% of the listening area does. Good luck with the move. 60 is the way to go.
