my XLT had a lock and my Lariat doesnt?! Guess it's time to switch to the locking gate I think it's like $35 for the part, well worth it compared to replacing an entire tailgate.

HI EVERYONE! Just an update for all of you who responded to my post about if I could pursue EMT and paramedic since I was facing an issue with my dream of becoming an airline pilot. (See thread in EMS Forum: An unfortunate situation) I took the final part of my medical test today and my examiner passed me!!! Thanks for all of your help in my other thread in helping me look at options. I can now continue to pursue my lifelong dream. I look forward to seeing you all at the gate!

Thanks for the support guys! Aviator I'm curious as to your full opinion on corporate. I'm at least 4 years away from career but it's always good to here opinions within the industry.

Thought this was a pretty interesting article: Exotic Animals Escaped, Possibly released from Farm: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/19/exotic-animals-escape-owner-found-dead_n_1019286.html?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl3|sec1_lnk3|105511 I'm not sure if this is the right place for the topic, but do we have any areas in Westchester or the surrounding area whether they are private or public that have large exotic animals (I don't mean the Bronx Zoo )? What resources do we have for an incident like this? Although... 48 animals?! Geez!

Just curious, is the UVM Ambulance a student run EMS Squad? Or it's a sponsored ambulance paint scheme by UVM?

I know at my college they have a "Fire Suppression" course, and funny enough I have not looked into it. Absolutely get a degree and go to college. I'm currently studying to be an airline pilot (assuming all my medical stuff works out (see other post) and you'd truly be surprised how one in the same fire service and flying are. Sure to be a pilot you don't need to have a degree in Aeronautical Science, and you don't need a degree in "Airline Pilot Specialty", just as to be a fire fighter you don't need a degree in Fire Science but, it helps and it sets you apart from any competition just as efdcapt stated having that degree opens doors and helps build an impressive resume. And a college education is important because it will give you other options while you wait in line to be called to the academy just as I hope to be called to wait in line for the flight deck. Best of Luck to you John!

I was in music class when someone called the teacher and he told us there was a plane crash but never told us the extent (I was in 3rd grade so I think it's clear why the truth wasn't told), my school didn't close either which looking back on things I find strange. My main room teacher's father ran Grace Construction which was one of the companies asked to help in debris removal, as you can imagine things weren't peace and love in that class room. I wasn't told the truth until I had gotten home. The part that really scared me at that age was that I had wanted to be a pilot since the age of 3. Going from playing with US Airways airport play sets and pretending the dining room table was La Guardia and my room was Ft. Lauderdale to fearing getting on my favorite machine to visit grandparents in fear I was going to get hi jacked was what still remains drilled in me. I checked the cockpit on every single flight from then until about 7th grade. Clearly I wasn't a responder, but I thank everyone who helped out on those days, months and years to follow from the sincere bottom of my heart for what they did. Down here at flight school, we have to take a success class and one course component is about being tolerant of all different cultures. Do I think every Muslim/ Middle Eastern person is out there to get us? No. Do I agree with others that there are those out there looking to hurt us and we need to remain vigilant? Yes. Do I look at someone a certain way when I'm at an airport or on a plane because of how they look, Yes I do but I find it sad that events in our lives have led to that. Just my .02 sorry for the rant....

Just throwing in my twisted sense of humor, sorry to offend....

I love when my town convicted serial killer comes to check my C O Symptoms, and the Pedophile gets to go in my little sisters room to check for fire extension in her dresser.... wait what was that last part?

I know how at WC DES there's the garages with Tech Rech, Haz Mat, Mobile Comm.. etc... I know on DES's website there is something about an Animal Response Team, but there isnt too much information out there on it. Is anyone here involved in it or willing to shed some light on their purpose?

no clue about heart related issues, but the guy above is 100% correct. keep every single piece of paper a doctor gives you and keep it laminated, and in a folder, ready to show an examiner. If your saying you've seen all these doctors and all of them come to the same conclusion you are fine then you should be fine. By fine I mean medically, as to if that meets the standards of the FDNY I have no clue. But if they say "no" atleast you'll have all of your medical evidence to appeal to them. Best of Luck!

I drove from Daytona Beach to Ft. Lauderdale today on I-95 and noticed if not every 10 miles, at least every 15 there was a sign on the side of the highway just like an exit sign, that was white and yellow and says "SLOW DOWN OR MOVE OVER FOR STOPPED EMERGENCY VEHICLES, IT'S THE LAW." I think it's nice to have, and to be honest, when I did see FHP on a traffic stop, people did move over or brake and slow down if they couldn't move. I know when New York first instated this law local news stations covered it to give the public an "announcement" about it, but I haven't really seen anyone abide by it. I am wondering does New York have plans to put up signs that remind drivers of the law? or have I just not seen them and they were put up? If they weren't..... what are we waiting for?

Hi Everyone, I'm not too active here on the forums, but I'm in an unfortunate situation and need a little guidance from everyone here. I am currently pursuing my dream of becoming an airline pilot at college down in Florida. Unfortunately I have what in pretty much 90% of other careers wouldn't be considered a medical issue, but sadly when it comes to aviation it is considered one. I have filed all of the proper paperwork and will be taking the optional alternate color vision test given by the FAA. If I pass, I'm all set and will be allowed to continue my training and pursue my airline pilot dream I have wanted since the little age of 3. If I do not meet their standards... I will have to find other options as far as college and a career choice. Luckily for me I do have that back up plan of pursuing EMT and eventually Paramedic. My color vision has been diagnosed and I am not severely color deficient/ nor am I "color blind." After doing some research, I have come to find that both career Fire and EMS with the exception of Law Enforcement do not have an issue with color deficiency but just full on color blindness ("black and white"). My family's main concern is that good ol' college education. I am curious if any of the EMT's or Medic's out there attended college or just went through the respected training programs? I'd hope to come back to Westchester and live at home while I pursue EMS, so if there are any local schools that offer a degree and EMS training that would be a major plus for me. I want to thank all of you very much from deep down for taking the time to read this, and if you have any guidance, and suggestions you'd be willing to post, they will be highly considered and appreciated. Thank You. Voltage1256

A pilot on another forum brought up this question, which I am curious about, as I know there have been some back and forth arguments about who really has the authority to take down an aircraft. This isn't to start anything but I myself am curious... How would the NYPD have authority in Federally Controlled Airspace? there must be a chain of command I am failing to see.

No need to worry, T.S.A. is doing a fantastic job and has tightened its security! This is fresh off airliners.net : "Dallas hairstylist Isis Brantley was shocked when TSA agents came up to her on the platform of the interterminal train at the Atlanta airport and told her they needed to check her Afro for drugs and explosives. TSA hair checks aren't unheard of, but they are invasive, and this is certainly the first case we've heard of a search so far from security. The TSA claims that Ms. Brantley simply walked off before her security screening was over, and that they offered to take her to a private area for the pat down, but Brantley disputes both those claims." I have no clue. But I wouldn't think so. There is a huge difference between NY and Florida when it comes to having to find your python and monitor lizard a new home. NY they will die within the winter months, they have no true source of food, and this is nothing like their habitats. Florida, you have that humidity, food source, heat, shelter, water, and their instincts get them one slither away from everglades heaven. I think FL has finally realized they'd rather pay to find them homes during disaster or an evac, as compared to cleaning up the mess they have been leaving behind by taking over. I was in Ft. Lauderdale 2 weeks ago, there are species from Haiti, Colombia, El Salvador, Cuba. and those are just the boat hoppers that populated here. Not to mention little timmy's 9ft rock python, or joe's 6ft asian water monitor that just got too big to take care of.... my .02
