Yeah so tglass59 please explain what your talking about
-
Tglass59 I don't consider myself an expert
-
I'm going by when I worked ems there close to 8 years ago. A1 was als 24hrs, A2 was bls 24hrs and A3 was bls 9-9 with an als fly car 24hrs. I believe FD had engines 66,67,68,69,70 and 71. Ladders 32 and 34 along with Tower Ladder 6 and rescue 88. I believe 3 guys on a rig
-
Do they really need this utility rig
-
I agree
-
So one department couldn't respond because their rig was broken, another department sends 3 career guys on a truck leaving their department understaffed because the vols can only drive the rescue, what a joke
-
So a department made up of career and volunteers couldn't respond, wow
-
Isn't Scarsdale a career department
-
One of the stupidest things I've ever seen
-
Greenburgh has EMTs and Paramedics that are not police officers
-
I believe that's for Greenburgh PD/EMS
-
One was my closest friends is from pg county,he got me to go down there, besides the brothers I work with, they are some of the best firemen I've seen
-
Your right, this topic was about PD. As a resident of putnam county do I feel there is adequate law enforcement, yes. You can't drive through my town without seeing local PD, sheriff department and state PD. You always seem to get 2 rmps on each run, but when it comes to the FD something needs to be done.
-
Yeah well the tax payers should know that these departments can not provide adequate fire protection, the sooner the better
-
If the police departments are thinking about consolidating, one can only hope that the fire departments do the same
-
Bnechis I agree with consolidation 100%
-
To me all the "grief" is look at all the departments you are stripping. Your taking a large amount of manpower and rigs for a private dwelling fire, to me that ridiculous
-
I agree with x152, you have multiple departments from Westchester, Putnam and even Connecticut on a relocate for a fire in a private dwelling, that's ridiculous

new York city use to have light weight hose for stand-pipe operations. the control man and back up man each had a roll up of 2 1/2 inch light weight hose, white with red stripes. the nozzle man lead length was 2 inch light weight hose, green with red stripes with a 1 inch smooth bore tip. when charged the current 2 1/2 inch hose that the city went back to weighed approx. 135lbs, light weight 2 1/2 123lbs and the 2 inch was about 83lbs. the department recently ordered all engine companies to remove all light weight hose off the rig so now we are back to the normal 2 1/2 inch line with 1 1/8 tip. our control bag remains the same. in-line pressure gauge, increasers, nozzle, operating wheel, chocks, adaptor, 18 inch pipe wrench, F tool, hammer and wire brush.

From my buddy who is on the job there for awhile, they are looking to hire 16 guys who already have the cpat
-
squad on the apparatus NO, a company of firefighters trained to that level No, and qualified officers NO, yep no squad company
-
ok lets get it straight. in no way shape or form does any fire department in Putnam county have a squad or heavy rescue. the departments fall short on equipment, manpower and training. just because a department sends a few guys to a weekend class, doesn't cut it. if that department is called to act as a heavy rescue and those members aren't on the rig, what are you. im all for company pride, but calling yourself something that you clearly aren't is stupid. like somebody said before, "dog and pony show". a squad and rescue company are designed to provide a special service in addition to your normal responding units. if you cant provide that service 100% of the time, your just kidding yourself. plus it takes away from the true meaning and mission of the rescue company, and that is and will always be to rescue a downed brother, not send a rig with "rescue" on the side to an mva to apply speedy dry.
-
oh im sorry, I know a few guys there and they claim they have a squad and one of the best truck companies around, sorry for the mix up
-
If I'm not mistaken but doesn't Carmel fire department in putnam county have a squad, squad 12

EMS is what you make of it. I worked for a company that covers a city in Westchester for 2 years and I loved it. I had great partners and we shared a fire house so we were in a station. I left there and went to the city. I was there for 5 years. Long hours, the pay sucked and the working conditions were horrible. The only thing that was my saving grace was my partners, my station and my LT's and Captain. I got burnt out after 2 1/2 years working in one of the worst area in the city. I eventually switched over to fire but still do EMS on the side
