  9. and Your point is? I've taken tests for free (in the 1980's) I've taken tests In My state and yours and others as well That I've paid 25, 50 100 dollars just for the privilege, of Taking the test... These cities and towns have born the brunt of such testing for years and Often times just to have someone Work there for 6 weeks until they get a call from East Padooka, and they leave when The City or town Invested often thousands of dollars in the hiring process, maybe The Taxpayers want serious commitment ?!? I dont know I just figured I would share the opening because I know Lots of guys who would KILL to start a life and be on the job somewhere... I took 3 FrEe tests 2 FD and One dispatcher in the same week in 1985, When Interviewed for the dispatchers job I was up front with Both the deputy of Police and Deputy of Fire, Look I am testing if thats an issue, so be it I was hired and worked 3 years and 8 months before getting a letter to report Monday @ 0800 (The Police Deputy) was The dispatch Supervisor says Geez they didnt give you much time....to give notice did they... NO chief they used the same system you used letter recieved Friday at 4 pm to report 0800 monday... so he said hmm Yeah I guess so .... Look at it this way, there are Many locations in Westchester & Putnam that only allow residents of the town, village Hamlet or whatever you wanna call them, while others play other games... here's a chance, you choose to take it or Not ... I certainly don't care what you do... Maybe Thats The City of Torrington's Game to weed out folks... It is what It is Nothing is right for everyone...
  10. As a follow-up to the Incident , The members of Rescue 1 were on The Meredith Vieira Show to discuss the feat..... http://chicagofirewire.com/good-video-fdny-rescue-co-1-rescuing-window-washers-trapped-69th-floor-new-one-world-trade-center/ or http://youtu.be/9b4yTATm74I

  12. Connecticut's NBC 30 had posted this, this am, re: Conn DOT crews working with equiptment (we dont often see) (triaxle dumps, V Plows, and Snow blowers, Oh my!! they must be from The Airport in Windsor Locks/Litchfield County http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/Connecticut-DOT-Crews-Work-Round-the-Clock-in-New-York-283562021.html
  13. Seth, FDNY's page Only stated They were going (as I posted) the members & rigs In the rest area (?) are the All wheel trucks That Were from "SANDY" ..... Here are some more cool pics from the region http://chicagofirewire.com/best-photos-buffalo-new-york-winter-storm/
  14. actually the Rear looks like it could be painful the front who knows You might sink the whole 15 feet Ugh!!
  15. I was watching weather channel folks when The storm was raging and They were saying This was fluffy and Unpackable snow which means dry and not water latent... which is a saving grace allowing some time to work at clearing snow loads off especially Flat rooves before they collapse... here On the shoreline of Connecticut last year we as we all recall our "blizzard" which gave us a whopping 18 inchs? we had roof collapses and Cities nearly impassible for days, Nation Guard firefighters came in with specialty fire equiptment in some locations.... the issues here, then where nothing Compared to Greater Buffalo ( and similar areas) which suffer these lake affect snows... This weekend while its supposted warm up for us, Its supposed to dump some Rain and More SNow out that way ..... which is not good at all.... Some of the photos comming out of the area are amazing when you consider it was basicly a single storm... The snow Map is crazy below .. lol
  16. http://www.firehouse.com/news/12019549/boston-firefighter-contend-with-blocked-hydrant I know we all have seen the smashed window of the cars with a supply line going through the passenger compt, many folks don't get how important it is, And many of Boston's neighborhoods are Just that tight!!
  17. due to budget issues Fresno had been forced to reduce staffing which obviously creates problems, And is now looking to reemployee, Using federal Grants, 12 Firefighters from other local jobs also recently layed off.. http://abc30.com/careers/city-of-fresno-looking-to-hire-firefighters/400011/
  18. There's an old addage... "Never assume, because when you do, you make an Ass out of you and me..... apparently a Dispatcher Might be taking a hit In Baltimore, a safety officer was located in a vacant dwelling next to the fire building....hours later......... http://www.goheroes.us/last-alarm/actions-of-dispatcher-may-have-kept-fallen-baltimore-city-firefighter-from-being-found-sooner

  21. Based Upon My experiance from the 2010 test, I Placed # 100... When the city is "ready" they'll send a letter to attend a Backround check (which Was at Metrotech last test...) I would suggest That YOU have 4-6 prepared resume's (They asked me to bring along 4 clean copies) AND be prepared to fill out another handwritten "application" which was sent me, (received in Mail On Saturday2013 at 3:45 pm to report at 8 am Monday...) Your test occured on Wednesday 2 days after that. They sent a 25 page book that They wanted me to fill in the blanks and as well Bring along 4 copies of My clean resume, when I reported Monday at 0800.... I attempted to contact them Via Email they provided which bounced on several attempts to explain myself, due to health issues I am not able to take the job, Anyway, AT #7 You'd better prepare and expect the absolute worst, Ie: receiving no notice at all and still being prepared.....
  22. Here's another example, in this video out of Arizona , the fire vehicle is a step van typically aluminum and Fiberglass, and loaded with you name it right? its not a Toyota, a few issues here... Being from a department where My company had its share of Car Fires (sometimess 8 or 10 a shift in the 90's) its easy to ignore some of the "safety" side of these incidents ... Some people have been so instilled with the "Hollywood" version of 9 explosions from 12 directions... they often run away expecting that.. at the same time We are trained to Chock all vehicles at 5 am this obviously didnt happen, and the very idea that these fellas are going to STop the vehicle rolling after the fact is pretty silly and they are LUCKY that they didnt loose the hoseline, or get someone hurt..... The video is worth a look... seems like these guys are having a bad morning for sure.... http://youtu.be/vbRFvCIVSDg
  23. Hmm well, You might start with something More Then what they started with.. the idea of Using a member to keep the vehicle from scratching Engine seems To me to one of the less smart options, Find it pretty difficult to believe that Norwalk FD doesnt have a sog on the use of wheel chocks Both On the apparatus as well as on MVA's and Vehicular incidents of any kind.... using a standard wheelchock May or may not have changed a thing, In this case. but if it had then you wouldnt have a member pinched or hurt , a rig with potential Damage or a Vehicle which could have rolled off d into someone residence..
