A firefighter was shot while responding to a car crash on Long Island. It happened on Bellmore Avenue at Claxton Avenue in Bellmore around 10 p.m. Tuesday. A car apparently lost control and struck a light pole. A Bellmore Fire Department ambulance responded, and the firefighter EMT's approached the vehicle to see if the driver needed help, and he opened fire on them. As they were scattering, one firefighter was shot in the back. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in an unknown condition.
