  1. Just curious how you handled this roof. It sounds as if you worked it. Did you work from a bucket? If not, what was the thatched roof applied to? Was there plywood under it or was it firing strips like the old style shakes? I used to drive past that house and being the fireman that I am I always asked myself what would I do if I pulled up to that place.
  2. The windmill is way up on the hill. It is about 200 feet tall. I drive up there on my bike once in a while and this was a spectacular home. Thatched roof and all. What a shame.
  3. Was this the house with the windmill on the hill?
  4. No, you can respond from as far away as possible and arrive in a timely fashion. I heard at the kitchen table guys from as far away as Herkimer county wanted on.
  5. Quint stands for do more with less.
  6. We are trained in fire behavior and the risk/reward factor. I would crawl in without SCBA after a quick size up if I could. If the cop is a volly I am sure he would also size up the situation cause he is also trained. It is the other guys who go in with no training and just plain make a mess out of the whole thing.
  7. Well because this was a drill and you posted pictures I hope we can comment on them. It looked as though everything went good for the drill with 2 LSO and plenty of backup. Everyone was wearing full PPE and tanked up. Everyone approached from the side to fight the fire. I have one comment and that is the placement of the engine in the second picture. It is directly in line with the rear bumpers and in danger of being hit if the pistons let loose. There are also members standing there in the line of fire at what appears to be the pump panel. We cannot control everything that happens in our job but we can make it safer when it is a drill. Stay safe.
  8. Well I hope the Rev Al is getting a rally together to support the murdered officer and his family. What a disgrace of a verdict
  9. It was not a matter of SP or Sheriff response at night, just the fact that PCSO gave the protection 24/7 with extra resources from SP if needed. They patrolled the village only. I always thought they did a great job and I am not putting down the new force. I just question how you could complain that $150,000.00 is to much and then go and put together your own force, with cars, tahoes, rent on a building, and employees for less than that money. I do understand the concept of seeing the Village of Brewster PD HQ in town and hope it would prevent crime but what happens after they lock the door at night and go home?
  10. They patrol only the village.
  11. This is such a joke. If I remember correct the P.C.Sheriff was giving the village of Brewster 24/7 coverage with 1 patrol for $150,000.00. The village complained it was to much money and stopped the contract. Now they have a part time PD with no night time coverage and a K-9 unit. I am sure this cost alot less than $150,000.00. What a waste of taxpayer money.
  12. Why would we call in a volunteer dept when the paid dept will respond much quicker. Please do not lump us into this problem we have enough of our own to worry about.
  13. Nobody wanted our jobs for the last 6 years while every crook on wall street was raping America. For $25.00 and a lucky Saturday they could have worked weekends, holidays( except Ramapo PD ) nights, my kids birthday and yours also. It makes me sick to my stomach when people start to complain about us when the hard times are here. Well line up and take the test and you too can join the ranks.
  14. I heard someone went from stars to bars. Is there any truth to that?
  15. I thought fire depts just gave away old fire trucks to friends and family.
  16. What makes you think NYC wants the problem?
  17. I am also curious to know what "swimming is". You can PM me or post it to the public if you don't mind.
  18. Our list was not extended. The recent promotions were to increase officers in company. The positions have been talked about for at least 2 lists now and they came up on this one that expired at the end of Sept. Now why they were made off of this list is what the latest talk is about. All I know is we have more officers now than in the past. There is always more to the story than what is heard and I don't feel as though EMTBravo is the place to talk about our "dirty laundry". More officers mean more supervision and that is what our union wanted.
  19. When those unions respect my union I might oblige. Member of L273 and dang proud of it.
  20. I want to know what other jobs in Westchester require. In New Rochelle we can only live in Westchester or Putnam. We can not live in any of the 5 Boros, over a bridge or out of state.
