  1. Must be all the people with 4 wheel drive!!!!
  2. I think the problem would be the 3/4 tax free disability pension he received after retiring as C.O.D. I do not know when the injury happened nor do I care. You can keep your head buried in the sand or you can pull it out and see that headlines like this will ruin what you and I are still working for. A decent pension for myself and my family.
  3. It's across the board not just Westchester or Newark. How about Camden NJ? Population about the same as New Rochelle. They have a work load that can compare to Detroit in scale and are losing 140 FF. 50% of the job. Lets get real America you cannot get rid of police and fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. If Seth and the boy's will give me my spoon back to stir the pot maybe we can provoke some positive discussions again. ( Just joking Seth don't ban me )
  5. Is the city of Newburgh going to give mutual aid any longer to the towns that come into the city? I think we all know the answer to that question with only 1 and 1 in the city. So what kind of agreement will there be? Come to our city and catch some work and talk some crap to all your friends when you are done. We all know what should be done and unfortunatly the residents will learn the hard way and the brothers are going to take a greater beating in a city that sees quite a bit of work. good luck brothers!!!!!
  6. Can you Spell: Y.E.S. M.A.N.
  7. The truck was stolen from East Dover not West Dover. West Dover is where Mount Snow is and East Dover is......well........ east of West Dover.
  8. I'd pay money to keep the pot stirring. ( insert smirk here )
  9. What if the homeowner was trying to cover up a crime scene. Murder, rape, drug operations or counterfeiting. Do we not have the right to put out this fire and turn it over to PD for investigation? As far as I am concerned once your house is on fire you have lost your rights to stop us from entering.
  10. Closure of Station 8 (scheduled to close on July 9th @ 0800) Posted On: Jul 07, 2010 (10:51:23) The City of Yonkers is planning to close the "Second Fire House" in the past week, along with the 36 firefighters who have already been laid off, and 34 who were demoted, further jeopordizing the safety of the Citizens of Yonkers, as well as the Firefighters............... Are they really best suited?????????
  11. You could use my picture
  12. Can you clarify upon your statement. Besides Lake Mohegan, what career depts in Westchester can't rely on mutual aid from another career dept. New Rochelle touches Pelham, Larchmont, Eastchester, TMFD and Scarsdale. With Mount Vernon and Yonkers a stone throw away. White Plains and Fairview, Hartsdale and Greenburgh. Port Chester and Rye. I think Westchester is pretty well covered and think your statement is pretty off base.
  13. On a serious note to all PD, what are the chances a person can go into cardiac arrest during a tasering incident. I have no knowledge of the taser and don't really want to find out either. Any input would aid me in crossing off that question from my list.
  14. In his shoes by being pissed off that a kid was not listening or fearing for his life as though the kid was going to hurt the officer. My kids don't listen so I have been in those shoes. I have never chased a criminal so I haven't been in those. I did not see a video of it so was the kid streaking! If so that should rule out concealed weapons, except if he was hiding something in the coin slot.
  15. Do they use .50 cal?
  16. Holy crap! I told my guys I saw a camera behind the teddy bear on the dresser our last night tour. They caught my whole rant and posted it on youtube. I hope I don't get suspended for this
  17. It does not appear as though FDNY was needed according to the run down. YFD is the best prepared for this kind of work in the county and it shows each time they go to work. 5 engines 2 trucks rescue and 2 chief officers on the first alarm. That is 36 on scene for the first. No Westchester dept can say they can do that even if they called every company working the tour on the first alarm. The following alarms were covered by YFD also and a couple of mutual aid companies to cover the city while YFD calls back off duty. Unless FDNY wants to sit in the firehouses in Yonkers I don't see the need to call them for this job. Way to go YFD, Doin' the do the Yonkers way.
  18. That's not fair to go after the Chief. He did take a class once on how to run a fire dept. Does that not equal the time and experience that the DC's have?
  19. You see that through your whole rant and rave you have missed my point. My point was not to claim fame for all the dead people I have recovered from cars accidents or fires, it was to point out that you posted a link to the graphic pictures of the scene for others to watch. I did not go on the Internet to search out the pictures, as probably a lot of other members here who have seen it first hand and quite frankly could care less about seeing them. You made it easy though to click and open. Had you not pasted the link I would have taken you post more seriously. So as one of the top rated members on the forum say's QTIP.
  20. So you pasted a copy of the link on a public forum to stop people from watching it and seeing the pictures. That should help in your crusade.
  21. I will state that a strong brotherhood will over come whatever is thrown at it. I believe that our union has and will continue to show that we are united. When final word comes from the President we will post it. Thank you to all locals who supported us in our time of need. L273 will be there as always for you!
  22. With the current fiscal nightmare we are going through and my job looking to lay off 6 FF and not fill the 15 positions we are down it is a slap in the face when you post stupid things on the recent status updates or any forum for that matter. Over the last few week I have seen more and more people post about their tours and how they did nothing and raked in the OT. The final straw is from a member today who who claims to have worked 17 hours and did nothing except the hardest part and that was fill out his OT slip. This is an absolute disgrace to all emergency service providers who actually do work during their tours. I sat down today and read the NY Post and they had 4 pages full of how the unions are killing NY and how greedy we are. And I want to go and talk to the author about how he has no idea about what we go through and what it is like to do our jobs and then I go home to my computer and find one of us who apparently does nothing at work all day and tells the public. W.T.F.? Please people do not show the public how stupid you are because it only took a HS diploma to get your job. This job is for real and some of us do it quite often.
  23. Thank you Firediver for being 1 of the few who understand me. I guess working together for the last 10 helps. Merry Christmas Brother and I look forward to your speedy return. The DERFF
  24. This is a great topic and the can has been and will continue to be a valuble tool on the fire ground. If you don't mind I would like to comment on the fire operations. I was not there and will only go by what you have wrote. You stated that you arrived and saw fire pushing up the stairs and out the door. That is a great size up and should help you and everyone else on scene with your next steps towards advancing on this fire. You tell us that the engine company started their "bread and butter" operations by stretching to the basement/garage door. We need to stop here and discuss. This is a residential structure with unknown ( we never assume everyone is out ) trapped occupants. In my opinion the first line should have gone to the front door where the fire was showing and protected the means of egress. The best chance of survival for any and all fleeing occupants is to protect their escape. With that said, you have stated that you and the Lt proceeded to the front door (which I believe is the right place to be) and began to use the can to keep the fire in check. Great move and great job on the Lt and his decission. Lets all go back to probie school or FF1 whichever pertains to you and remember what was taught about opposing handlines. This is a basement job and should be treated as such. In no way whatsoever should a handline have been stretched to the level below the front door. You and your Lt may have saved your own lives by using that can before the engine got water. Had there been a well advanced fire that the can did not control and the engine started pushing in my money would have been on the engine companies handline and not the truckies can. You guys are very lucky to have not received major burns or even have been killed. Take this as a learning aid and teach others what you know. In the end of the day we all (paid or volly ) have families we want to go home to and deserve that. Stay low and let it blow.
