I almost started crying this morning after I read the interview from the Journal News. These were Doctors and Lawyers and really good people who took part in the menacing of NYC and the citizens of the world enjoying a nice Sunday drive with their family. The riders were law abiding citizens and just enjoying the weather as well. The stars were misaligned when these 2 different worlds met and havoc created on the West Side Highway. Ok I am only being sarcastic here my friends. Live by the sword, die by the sword you skells!! I would have ran over 50 more of you if you surrounded me and my family!!!!!!!!!! ( side note that I ride a Harley and don't condone the actions of these " Bikers" )

It was certainly an honor to have worked for Snotty. A salty ole Chief who always had a quick one liner waiting in the wings. He has been quoted twice in a different topic so I figure we should start one for him. For all you new guys out there I will tell you that 50% of the stories are true, you just need to figure out which 50%. There have been quite a few laughs at the kitchen table from his wit so if you have one post one

I will start it off with this one: I was driving the DC one tour early in my career. The date was Feb 14 and being the height of the cold and flu season there happened to be a few more members on sick than usual. A hand written note was delivered to the DC that said " My K#^*n you have quite the romantic squad. ( name withheld to protect the innocent ).

I once heard him ask a person at a major incident if he had won his company in a card game. I almost pi$$ed my bunkers laughing!!
-
He does look a little salty but could never give an interview on TV as well as Snotty could.

Things must be pretty quite around EMTBRAVO land to throw that hand granade!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Does it surprise you that they act this way? They have medical for life and never worked one Christmas or Thanksgiving.
-
It is election time. I think Westchester firefighters need to get together for some good ole fashion picketing. It could be you next!!!

My understanding of the pilot program was because they have so many guys on the line their hands were reducing the flow to the nozzle. 2" hose is much harder to compress than 1 3/4.

I hope this also helps with the aggressive driving that has become the norm on 684.

So new Rochelle catches a job in the projects last night and this is the outcome. Just found this on another site and copied and pasted it. I can tell you for sure that when my company responds to a EDP or suicide attempt or some other dangerous call and PD advises to wait until scene is secure before entry I do just that. I have also been on location first before the arrival of PD and stood fast and waited. I do not know if the person I am responding to is injured or dead and I really don't care at that point. I do know that my guys won't end up injured or dead by my stupid decision to enter a scene I can't control. Do FD's really need to get on the air to advise PD to stand by until scene is safe or should they be grown ups and realize it's out of their hands? Do these officers really need to be on the fire floor? Maybe we should wait for the bagpipes to decide. Two New Rochelle Police Officers Injured In Fire By James O'Toole on Mon, 06/24/2013 - 04:41 ShareThis A Sunday evening fire at 590 Fifth avenue sent two New Rochelle Police officers to Sound Shore Medical center for treatment. There injuries are not serious according to fire department radio reports. Where's the one about why Trucks are dispatched to the highway with the Engine? We are there to block the road for the Engine, just like traffic cones we are dispensable. Who closes the door when you leave on another EMS call? Who finishes the meal when you go out for a tummy ache? The truck has been taking care of the engine since horses pooped in firehouses!!!

No worries. I now know that this picture taken is not you.

If your info is correct then you would have been walking down those hallways in elementary school when I was crawling down the ones on fire. Sorry for the mistake

First off I can't believe you would rate my content and knowledge based on what my affiliation title says. How about almost 20 years in the second busiest FD in Westchester. 6 years as a fire officer. Assigned to all 3 truck companies in my city where the real men do work over the last 18 years. ( sorry engine brothers ) I was probably crawling down hallways while you were walking down hallways in junior high school. It also says I'm 99 years old, do you think that is real?

Your killing me here Moose! I said I was done and you pulled me back in!Your second sentence says it all. I like to think that most of the topics I post will and should be thought about and deciphered. Almost like the 24 hour rule replying to some touchy email received. Step back, read, re-read and think. It just amazes me that one person who is in a supervisory role here thinks that (A) I along with all FD members dislike cops. Absurd and totally out of line. ( B ) it is ok to be DISPATCHED to a call that you are not trained or suited for. I too am in a supervisory role and have had plenty of discussions with my superiors over calls I do not feel my men were prepared for. I know when I accepted the promotion that I also accepted the fact that I will do what it takes to return my Brothers home the next morning the same way they showed up the morning before. Our Job as well as I would say the majority of FD's have written SOP's for all calls we respond to. Why do we have written SOP's? The FD works as a team to mitigate any and all calls we respond to. Wether you are first due truck ( forcible entry, fire floor and OV ) to second truck ( forcible entry, floor above and coordinated ventilation for the engines ) first engine ( line placement ) second engine ( water source, backup first line ) third engine ( second handline to back up ) and so on down the line. What could a PD SOP dictate for the first due officer to a job? Do they even have an SOP or are they flying by the seat of their pants? I mean really? Do you honestly believe we are "attacking " the law enforcement community here?

This is all I see here so this will be my last post. See you on the fire floor or the floor above where the real men work!!!

Are we not trained in risk vs reward? If a cop is dispatched to a rural part of the county and knows FD is quite a distance away then he/she must decide the risk vs reward. If a cop is dispatched to a job in a city jurisdiction and knows full well that FD is right behind them then that too is a risk vs reward decision. At the end of the day it is up to our training which includes risk vs reward and not just fire ops or police ops to base our decisions. I know my company and the Brothers who I work with will get the best decision I can make at that moment and that's all I can promise.

if you say so

I'm sure these firefighters didn't consider themselves heros. Just another tour!!

Both calls had members of service driving by and not dispatched to it. Same with the FDNY Brothers who have witnessed assault victims and stepped in to help. You need to come up with the ones where FD was dispatched and told that is was something they were not trained to do and were praised as heros.Or maybe this incident? Another event that a professional stepped in but was not dispatched to. A wild Brooklyn bar brawl left a Port Authority cop with a busted jaw and a firefighter with a severe knife wound Saturday after both rushed to the rescue of an NYPD officer being pummeled by a crowd -- including an ex-Marine and the nephew of Republican state Sen. Martin Golden, authorities said. The firefighter lost a pint and a half of blood -- leaving a puddle on the sidewalk -- when an artery in his arm was slashed in the 3am melee that involved beer bottles and knives, and the PA officer will need his jaw wired, sources said. "It was a street brawl," said eyewitness Mike Anello, 22, a property manager. "It was chaos." The mayhem at the Kettle Black Bar in Bay Ridge, which was caught on surveillance tape, allegedly began as a dispute between John DeCarlo, of Staten Island, and an off-duty cop. DeCarlo, 22, was at the bar with four friends when he allegedly punched the officer, who had been chatting up two women, police said. The cop also had a bottle shattered over his head. The firefighter and Port Authority cop -- who know the NYPD officer, but were not with him -- jumped into the mix after seeing him on the floor. Bouncers then pushed the five suspects out to the street and tried to keep the cops and firefighter inside, Anello said. But the mayhem was reignited when the NYPD officer, who refused medical attention, got outside and tried to write down the license-plate number of a car the men entered. The PA cop identified himself and told them to go home. "I don't care who the f*** you are," one of the assailants said, and then decked the PA officer. Another man kicked him in the face when he hit the ground. The firefighter was stabbed trying to break up the fray. DeCarlo was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. Kevin Crowley, 23, a former Marine, his brother Michael Crowley, 20, Dan Golden, 23 -- Martin Golden's nephew -- and Peter Jung, 23, were all charged with menacing. Knives were recovered in the bar and "at DeCarlo's feet" outside, a source said. Read more: New York Post Read more: http://www.myfoxny.com/story/17427565/gory-fight-as-fdny-aids-cop#ixzz2XBisVLdQ
