  1. We were dispatched to New Roc Harley this morning for 15, 55 gallon drums sealed up as tight as a ducks a** and no one around to answer our questions. they were dumped off in the parking lot and nobody knows where they came from. there are no markings on the containers to indicate contents. What are your depts protocals for this job and what does the first arriving officer do.
  2. PD was on scene upon arrival and we had 15 containers sealed up tight. we contacted the dept of health and waited for the store manager from costco to open up. We also asked PD to check cameras mounted on New Roc Harley as well as Costco. The store manager advised us that the drums contained soil samples from core test performed somewhere on Costco property. All was well at the end of the call. There were alot of good ideas from this topic. Thermal imaging cameras, outside security cameras, how were the drums arranged IE stacked or just dumped. How about some other ideas we can all use?
  3. I THINK I JUST WET MY PANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. This job appears to have been a ground ladder job. No need for the truck to leave the pavement. BUT I was not there.
  5. New Rochelle sends 1 engine on all ems calls. As for your second question nobody minds going on ems calls when people REALLY NEED us. I will leave it at that.
  6. How about starting with scene safety and moving on to patient care starting with the ABC's Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. I would think that starting patient assessment is more important than just breaking out the tools. Don't we try to gain access via a rear window or door if possible to maintain stabilization. So to answer your question, the first responder on the scene wether fire, police, or ems has duties to perform if they are so trained.
  7. I have deleted all my posts because I really don't get what mcf2257 is getting at. So here is my answer to what the question was. If you are dispatched to a fire and you pass a car accident that needs the tools you call the IC and advise of the situation and ask what they want. You do not self dispatch we already had that topic.
  8. What part of the article was incorrect? The part where the chief was quoted"They are going to see what's a parade without the fire department," Scogna said. I guess being a chief at 18-20 years we should expect this kind of behavior. Remember it's not your bat and ball its the publics
  9. 100 hours of training per year
  10. What if they breached your contract kingsixx? Your job tells you they will supply all 9mm handguns to all it's officers then some dumbass in purchasing say's "we can save a ton of money supplying them with 22's what's the difference" That is why we have contracts, as silly as this sounds someone gave it to them and they are entitled to it.
  11. This is in response to sending 3 chiefs on mutual aid. I understand that to many chiefs and not enough indians is a problem and that's what should be addressed. so here so my question is: What depts have at least 1 chief who works in their community that can respond to all calls? What depts have no chiefs that work in their communities and strip them of service? This seems to be a concern to some of you for a mutual aid call but not a concern when it comes to day to day operations.
  12. Just to clear things up about the squads in westchester. The concept was developed for WMD not hazmat. Although we can usee some of the equiptment for hazmat. We are the first regional squad system in the country to comprise of different fire depts. The federal government is watching very closely to see if this works so we can ask that they start to fund for firefighters to man these squads. The government never would have invested all this money in us to go clean up 3 gallons of fuel oil spilled or an acid spill in a warehouse, that is up to the job to provide that service.
  13. Believe me 66Alpha1 I would love to see the medic back in Brewster but it is politics as usual in Brewster. I had a family member who had a heart attack and died 100 yrds from the sub station. When I got the call I drove at about 80 mph to the house from only a couple of miles away and pulled in with the medics (they were stationed at the sub station at the time). They were there in a matter of minutes (2) after going through the 911 system. The person was expired but we still worked as though we had a shot like you should do. My point is they were there in minutes not tens of minutes from a different part of the county and being a career guy I DO KNOW WHAT SECONDS AND MINUTES MEAN.
  14. First off, I haved lived in Brewster for most of my life so I do know how long it takes to get to places around town. Second off, It's amazing how when we talk about response times to the vollies you all say you are on scene in the alotted 8 minute time frame. But when you need something now the tune changes. Third off, If you get a call for a job on welfare rd you should have an automatic duel response with put lake who has a firehouse 2 miles from there. Build a sub station like ltjay said with 1 bay for an engine a bathroom with shower to clean up if you wish. As for decon, that takes place at the scene of the job not at the place you respond from. Training takes place at the county training center or at the main station. and I don't know what an scba area is but if you are talking about the cascade system it should be at the main station. I am tired of my taxes going up every year (18% this year again) for crap we don't need.
  15. Being a "truckie" myself I think thats to broad a statement. You should know your capabilities and perform appropriotly
  16. I think the blue lights are more visable, that is why you are seeing it in combination with other lights.
  17. New Rochelle sends 1 officer and a minimun of 2 ff's on the engine or truck for all mutual aid. In the career side of things we are all qualified for interior so that is not an issue. As for the comments about fast companies coming in for mutual aid I don't understand that. The I.C. should already have the fast team in place at the job by the time mutual aid comes in. It isn't much of a fast truck if we come from New Rochelle to your city or town and things go bad before we get there now is it? If you have doubts about ones ability to provide a fast team you should have your own men do it, who you as an I.C. know are trained to your depts standards. Can't speak from the volunteer side because I am not part of it so who knows what goes on there.
  18. THERE' NO SANTA????
  19. As a Southeast resident I feel as though I have a say in this topic. It should take no more than 5 minutes to respond from the village main station nor the towns sub station on north brewster road to any part of the milltown road district. So with a 4 or 5 minute response from your house ( this number is from the volunteers I know ) and the 5 minute response from either station the time should be no more than 9 to 10 minutes. The 25 minute responses are because they can't get the manpower during the day. Nightime response is probably within a reasonable time frame. By building a 5 million dollar substation does not put out fires nor does buying the equiuptment it is and always will be manpower. What Kenny need to tell the taxpayers is how many members live in the milltown road area that can fill those rigs to respond. Driving from other parts of town to the new substation does not fix the problem.
  20. While we are hot on the IAFF topic I want to hear from the other union workers about how they feel towards union firefighters doing non union work I.E. electricians, plumbers, painters ect...I am just curious of their views
  21. I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to the scrooge who stole my $300.00 drivers side mirror off of my 2006 silverado. While parked in front of Station 3 on North Ave in New Rochelle yesterday morning in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!!!!!!! It's nice to see the holiday spirit is alive and well in New Rochelle I am sure he/she will be giving this mirror as a stocking stuffer P.S. I know it was not someone who reads this, I just wanted to vent
  22. I believe that New Rochelle honda, White Plains honda, Mt Kisco honda, Brewster honda and Huntington LI honda are all owned by the same group so if you have a problem with 1 then avoid these also. There may be a couple of others owned by them I will find out. They suck and should be avoided
  23. Just to add to ltrob, most new constuction has the basement stairs under the stairs to the 2nd floor. for you to achieve head room you will be going under the stairs that are going up so look as you enter the front door. THE LINE ALWAYS GOES IN THE FRONT DOOR TO PROTECT THE OCCUPANTS EGRESS the second line can go where the IC feels is needed. If it is a basement fire the first line goes to the interior basement stairs to protect the stairs to the second floor the second line protects the first line from the same location the first line went. I think we need to start another topic here cause I am way off course.
