  1. I've noticed two things. Yes I have found myself within more than 500 feet from the rear step of a firetruck once, and have than thought to myself, what good is the sign, if everyone does it? And what the hell am I doing so close? Secondly, I have seen lots of PD CARS tailgaiting emergency vehicles, and I have seen cops parked on hydrants, and in the way a lot of the times. What is the polocies on cops getting in the way?. No offense to all PO's out there .
  2. once again hurst tools are hydraulic. secondly , how can a volunteer firefighter quit his job? if it's a volunteer
  3. about two years ago we had the same issue in greenwich, and it resulted in all private contractors who were doing work along the roadways in town to hire off duty cops
  4. When I watch the show I don't think of myself as being associated with the fd, and find it's great. But all the unrealistic things that go on, and all of the negative actions that make all firefighters look stupid i just ignore, so the show doesn't bother me. I could see how a lot of people, volunteer and career could be bothered by the show, and how outsiders could get a general idea about us.
  5. hmm wonder who the driver was? let me know i'll see if he's a neighbor of mine
  6. Greenwich has the technical rescue team out of station 5. sound beach. The actual trench rescue unit is an ex-us army duce and a half w/ plywood. ( TAC 51). The TAC is an ex rescue truck, 1986 4wd international http://www.nefirenews.org/ne/SoundBeachR5.jpg. Tac 5 also carries some hi angel rope rescue equipment, and rescue 5 carries all of the stablization equipment. They also have a trailer that can be set up as both a shop and a command post, has a nice torch, welder, workbench/ tool box.
  7. I didn't even know that show was still on. I went up to the showroom a year ago, the directions from the website, actually lead me to the Shop! mikey happened to be outside, so i got a few pictures w/ him, and paulie. If you guys go up, go up during the week it's less crowded. Rumor has it, they are coming to a car show may 6th in greenwich w/ boyd coddyngton.
  8. greenwich run's ladder 4/ladder 5 pierce engine, 3,5,51 pierce dash patrol 2
  9. After today in the parade, when I was yelled at by a member who was marching for hitting the siren / air horn while in the apparatus, I began thinking, what's the big deal about hitting the siren in the parade? I know you're not suppoused to hit it b/c you have to go on a call but than again why would a first due rig be in a parade empty anyways, technically isn't the truck out of service? Secondly don't the little kids want to hear the sirens when they pull their arms down, not see the lights flash?
  10. Even though this is offtopic, I was wondering about Local police agancies, sitting on state owned roads at night, pulling speeders over. Whose jurisdiction is it on a state owned road?, and is it legal for a PO to sit on the side of the road at night. w/ no parking lights on?
  11. anyone else run into these words when they try to view any of the members galleries? "You have reached your bandwidth limit and can not view this image"
  12. Guys, I was wondering weater on not what I've heard is true. First, I've heard you can take FF1 at 17, than take the test and finish at 18. Secondly, can you take ff1 in one state, than have it transfer over to another? Thanks
  13. There was also BIG patrol 2 out of cos cob fire police
  14. Okay, i was just wondering what to do if a call for a person through the ice comes in? Today, my department got dispatched to a call on a report of a child through the ice..... the 1st due engine was out of the station, and the ice rescue sled was sitting in the firehouse, as well as the boat. Another 1st due rig from another station got the kid out, and the sled made it to the call on another rig, but the boat never did, but another station had 2 boats on scene, but than again, what good is a boat if theres no where to launch it? Anyway, what should one, or their department do inorder to have this more organized. Should we have canoes as well depending on needs? and if you have no spot on a rig for a ice rescue sled what do you do?
  15. Jr members aren't allowed to stay in the building past 10 pm After 1800 hrs, the washing of personel vehicles is allowed, as long as it's cleared w/ dist. chief, or shift lt and keys are left in ignition no running, horseplaying...
  16. At the last locust road fire during the windstorm armonk's tanker, banksville's, and "THE HILL'S" were there, as well as another westchester truck, and one of the commissioners. Any clue why the Commissioner would show up at a ct job?
  17. Round Hill Vol Fire Co, recieved a new "patrol" or "utility" truck. It's a 2006 f550 powerstroke diesel walk in. It's got a generator, lights, trash pumps, and custom compartments which run on either side of the walk in body w/ hard suctions. It has led & whelen strobes. They don't know what they are going to call it yet, probably won't be in service for a while either. pics to come..
  18. My favorite piece of apparatus in my department (GREENWICH FD) is Engine 3 a 2004 pierce dash rescue pumper
  19. out of 10 engines all together in service in town, 7 of them are set up w/ extrication tools, hurts, and air
  20. Greenwich has a reserve ladder which is a 1970's american lafrance which was refurbed in 2001, and has a reserve "patrol truck" which is a 1990 gmc 3500 reg cab utility body w/ a generator. Each firehouse with an engine company in town, has a 2nd due engine, which can be moved townwide, so there is no need for reserve apparatus. If a 1st due piece becomes out of service they just take a 2nd line piece from another station out to cover.
  21. As new trucks arrive, I've noticed some "rescues" are either walk in , or non walk in. I've talked to some officers of these trucks, and I still never get to answer my question of which is better? Some say it basiclly depends on youre needs. The non walk in's are better for personel safety on the highway, but that seems to be a waste?. Anyways, I don't really know which is better, but was just wondering what you guys think, and how do you make a descion on what type of rescue's better.
  22. Greenwich has Cheifs (paid and volunteer) - white helmets Some Vol Capt's - Red helmets Lt's- Black w/ white face shield Firefighters (paid + vol.)- black Fire Police- Red Probys- Exploerers- Orange and Blue
  23. My company watched a video on cold water rescue, than after had each member evulate their skills on the proper way to fold out the sled. There was a hands on drill that following weekend, but missed it. I thought the video was good, and than again was the only thing I had seen on it, so that's all iknow of
