Ok, so it was Engine 96 (Ossining Hose Co.) and Tower Ladder 42 (Washington Hook & Ladder Co.)
-
Lohud Article This person got extremely lucky to be able to come out of this alive.
-
Ossining was invited to that parade and actually won best overall. Not sure which apparatus went tho I think TL-42 was one.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/09/28/report-feds-have-stinger-missiles-in-nyc/ A new/recent article with NYPD Commish Kelly vaguely commenting on it.

Thanks

I shot video of the entire parade yesterday and they're not up on youtube. I'm not sure how to post video on this site so if you're interested in seeing them, just do a search for West Harrison Fireman's Parade and there's a total of 17 videos from the parade. Congrats to West Harrison on 100 yrs and it was good to see such a good turnout for it.

In Oss, they only spend the night if they're on standby for whatever reason. There's generally always people down at the firehouse hanging out anyways so getting out is of very little issue.
-
Not EVERY town has these issues though. I think in towns where response times are lackluster due to not being able to get a crew this ought to happen but the towns who are still 100% volly that have little to no issue getting out shouldn't have to change. If ain't broke, don't fix it.

Greenville has their own share of problems with their new truck. The contractor who does work for my family works for Ladder 4, if I see him I can ask him about that but he keeps sayin the new truck they got is a piece of junk as it constantly has issues with it.

Ossining still used the term VAC even though a lot are paid, some are still volunteers. As long as there's still volunteers within the department, I think you can still use the term "VAC". If everyone is paid then you're obviously not a VAC.

As long as it's not pouring rain or a total downpour, I will be there and likely be doing video of the parade on Sunday. Then again, it's not gonna rain right?

Thanks, much appreciated! It was actually kind of difficult to keep up considering there was a delay in the step off and it felt like everyone was rushing the actual procession and were on top of each other. I actually really liked car 97. I like the color scheme on Ardsley's cruisers.

A few images from this parade are now in the "All Other Photos" section. For the rest please refer to my photo page for the album entitled "Westchester County Fireman's Convention - Ardsley Parade" The Westchester Scene Photography

Attached are some of the photos from the Convention parade in Ardsley this year. There's too many to post so if you're interested in seeing more then please go to the album on my photo page at Westchester County Convention

On September 10 I was shooting a semi-pro football game at SUNY Purchase College. While I was there, Tower Ladder 2 was at one endzone with its ladder up that had an american flag draped over the bucket. It was a nice display and I liked how the lights from the bucket would peek through the flag further illuminating it. By the way, the team was called the Westchester Warriors and they play in the Big East Football Federation in case anyone is interested.

I know there's 1 kid, Charlie "Chucky" is with PCFD and Harrison EMS. I'd literally just found out about this team/league a couple days before through him. He knows my work from shooting some of the fire parades this year and such. I'm primarily a sports photographer and he was able to get me access to the field so I could shoot.
-
I'd possibly be interested in photos depending on the date/time. Keep me posted.
-
I do but haven't even pulled em off the camera yet. Will have em uploaded to the comp tomorrow and begin editing. Give me a couple days and I'll have em up.
-
my mistake, figured it was Purchase's tower ladder since it was at SUNY Purchase College and their house is right down the road. Never got a close up of the apparatus to see which dept it was. I've since fixed the title of the thread as well as in the text. Thanks for the heads up, sorry for the goof up!

Yea, I can agree with that. It was a pain in the neck trying to navigate around to find a place to park. I ended up having to go over Jackson Ave via Sprain Road and such. I eventually found a random side street that happened to be close to the parade route. I've been to a few parades in northern westchester this season and I have to say the spectatorship was mixed. Some had a great turnout, some not so much. I guess it really depends on the community and whether or not your department takes these things seriously. I've come to learn that there are only a select few who take things real serious and a lot who don't care. I still quite enjoyed this parade though, as I stated earlier I got to see a lot of departments and photograph a lot of departments I'd not seen yet this year or ever. It was cool to see the Delhi Fire Dept make the trip down and participate as well. They had some nice apparatus. It would have been nice to see some more of the county fire apparatus. The only one that went was the tactical rescue truck but as it's been stated previously in other threads, it's difficult on departments to send a lot of apparatus as it leaves them thin on the homefront. As far as the date goes, I have no idea when it was originally scheduled. I just found out about it the day before this thread happened to be posted by a friend in OFD. I thought the parade season was over with the exception of West Harrison coming up this weekend.

I shot this today, turnout wasn't quite as good as I would have expected in both spectators and departments but overall it was a good showing on behalf of some of the local depts. I got to see a bunch of different depts. that I'd not seen in the parades I attended this yr (i.e. Buchanan [with their rescue], Dobbs Ferry, Valhalla, Hastings, etc.)Congrats to all depts who won awards today. I'll have photos from this eventually. Thanks to Ardsley for hosting and good luck to Mohegan Lake next yr!

What depts are going? I know Ossining is sending Engine 96 and I think Ladder 41/Tower Ladder 42.

Granted, I do agree with the majority here... don't get me wrong. I don't think it was right for the person to be doing that but it is The Journal News so does this really surprise many of you?
-
Probably because the writer had a deadline to meet and it's news/protocol. You can't wait for it because then it becomes old news and the story becomes irrelevant. News is news regardless of whether it's positive or negative in the journalism world. It's a daily paper, they have to have the stories in by a certain time so the editors can copy edit, do layout and then send it to print. If it were a weekly/monthly paper I'm sure the writer would have given the family more time.

There's a lot of trails in the Rochester area and of course where I am right now, in southern Ontario. Unfortunately our area isn't countryfied enough to provide legal atv/snowmobiling trails.
