  1. Pleasantville Fire Dept. & Concert Band hosted their holiday party at the Pleasantville FD Headquarters on December 11, 2011. These are some of the shots I got. Photos of the apparatus pieces will be in the apparatus thread.
  2. These are some images I got of the apparatus from their children's holiday party. Apparatus are: Car 2372, Rescue 47, Engine 91, Engine 259, and Engine 260.
  3. As far as I know, State Police never really liked em due to the lack of space. While they are 10 second cars (as are the crown vics), they don't have the space the crown vics do which means they can't take as many supplies which are essential given the distance they cover and length of time they spend in their cruisers.
  4. This weekend I took my 3 year old nephew over to the Pleasantville Fire Department Holiday Party where he got to meet Santa and such as it was open to the public. Afterwards we were able to hang out while the P'ville Fire Dept. band played music and everyone could converse with one another over various treats, hot chocolate, etc. They also put a few of their rigs on display outside the house and it got me thinking about what do other departments do for the general public as a way to give back to your community? Also, in years past, the Pleasantville Fire Department went around the community with Santa riding with an engine for a night. I know we do something of similar nature in my community but the fire department isn't involved, it's sponsored by the community center. I really can't think of very much that mine does besides being involved in the annual street fair that's sponsored by the village and they go around to the schools and talk to the kids about fire safety during fire safety week/month. From a taxpayer standpoint, it's good to see the fire department getting involved with the community like this. It will pay dividends in the long run if you ask me. This applies to all the departments in the area who do things like this, not just Pleasantville. Anyways, just a curious thought I had. Note: I will have photos from this event and of some of their rigs that were on display up eventually.
  5. That was basically the whole reasoning behind my thought. Doing things that some of you listed above goes a long way, at least in my book. When the fire departments do that sort of thing, the public gets to see all of you outside of your turnout gear and not at their place of residency which, hopefully will reflect a positive image. That's my opinion anyways, I can only speak for myself as a non ff.
  6. Always 2 sides to every story and typically the media only wants you to hear part of 1 side. This just proves it. I knew there had to be some justification for that whole thing. Thanks for posting this,
  7. Former fashion model, Lauren Scuggs recently took her first steps in a Dallas hospital after accidentally walking into the prop of an airplane that resulted in traumatic injuries including having her hand sliced off and massive facial injuries. The video includes a brief interview with a pair of the EMT's who responded to the call. Lauren Scuggs takes first steps
  8. Sounds kinda sketchy to me, details are fairly vague. The extent of her injuries are pretty severe though. Her left hand was severed, she suffered a skull fracture, has a brain injury (to what extent, I'm not sure) and could lose her left eye. Lauren Scruggs Accident ABC News Good Morning America Story

  10. I meant to say it was sponsored by Phelps and even then I got it wrong, lol. It's the 36 M-1 flycar that is sponsored by Phelps. Had to run out and didn't have time to edit that post. Oops!

  12. OVAC also runs 36 M-2 which is part of the Phelps fly car. They have 3 ambulances, 2 of which are BLS and 1 ALS. You can see all 3 in some of my photos from the Ossining Memorial Day Parade.
  13. sounds like the members did a great thing for that family. Nice photos too, love the look on his face when he saw the rig.
  14. Croton-on-Hudson opts for full-time EMT
  15. You could apply that same thought to VFD's when there are people getting paid to drive the rigs.
  16. Officer Tillstrand is out of the ICU and may be heading to rehab now. My link
  17. Faraday Fire Department in Hastings County, Ontario recently aquired a key piece of extracation equipment and is unable to equip it on their rigs or put it to use. The township in which the department is located in is reluctant to embrace this piece of equipment. The North Hastings rescue unit currently has one equipped on their rig. However, this is an extremely rural area and the fire departments which are 100% volunteer (lucky to get 50 members with some of these depts) and lives could potentially be lost if the rig is on another call or not on that side of the county. This unit is a county dept so it would be similar to the Westchester County Technical Rescue Team but I'm unsure as to what level of training they would receive compared to our TRT. According to Wikipedia the population was 125,915 in 2001 and grew to 130,474 in the 2006 Canada Census. With the area of 1,473,861 acres (2,302.9 sq mi; 5,964.5 km2) reaching nearly 100 miles (160 km) from north to south, Hastings County is the second largest county in Ontario. 18. You and me both, it wasn't exactly made clear as to why. I'm assuming because of politics and the township feels that having one on the county rescue unit is sufficient enough?
  19. I have a summer cottage in the area of Bancroft, Ontario and while scanning through some of the local news articles in the newspaper up there I came across an interesting article on how the cost of policing is effecting the overall health of the town. Typically this is a population of about 4,000 but explodes during the winter and summer months due to the amount of snowmobilers and tourists/seasonal residents in the area. It also happens to be the Mineral Capital of Canada. I thought this might be an interesting read for some of the law enforcement people on this forum. Policing report a plea for provincial help
  20. kids these days are soaking tampons with vodka and inserting it into their vaginas/rectums as a faster way to get drunk. It bypasses the stomach acid and all that so there's no gag reflex to tell you you've had enough and it enters the bloodstream a lot faster as a result.
  21. Currently NYPD are in full riot gear gearing up to shut down occupy wall street. On site are various media outlets, NYPD, DSNY, FDNY and reportedly but not confirmed LRAD. There are several carting companies on site dropping off dumpsters. Though by the time many of you read this, it will likely be long over and done with. OWS is or will virtually be no more. http://www.livestream.com/occupynyc
  22. Update: Judge rules against Occupy Wall Street Protestors! http://news.yahoo.com/judge-rules-against-occupy-wall-street-encampment-215554380.html
  23. I guess NYPD aren't even allowing most of the press in. They've got like a 1-2 blockade preventing anyone from getting in.
  24. While I never had a blackberry, I know plenty of people who did and have since switched to the Android. The Android phones are better in just about every which way (minus the battery life). I would definitely suggest a 4G phone. If you live in the greater metro NY area... the entire area is covered for 4G as is most of the surrounding area. Vzw is increasing their coverage map just about every month. While Vzw is more expensive, it does come with more advantages. I.E. Backup Assistant is standard on all phones where as ATT just released something similar this past summer and you have to pay for it. I would def go with an Android with no hesitation. I have the Droid 2 because I was used to having a full QWERTY keyboard on my old ENV3 but once I got used to the touch screen, I find the actual keyboard a pain in the neck to use. I use AOL, Hotmail and Gmail and get all my email right away. There's options as far as how you want your data pushed on the Android. Good luck with your findings.
