  1. I just recieved a new Duty car with On Star. The old one didn't have it. I realized a great use for the On Star is that you can park the vehicle at a location, punch On Star and the operator will give your GPS location. On a vehicle accident site or Patient transfer by Heliocopter it's great for the pilot to have GPS numbers for where you want them to land, especially if they are not from the Westchester area.
  2. Heads up job F.F. Chiara. Sounds like you averted a disaster.
  3. I remember hearing that a Yonkers guy riding in the jump seat burned his arm from the heat of the engine compartment because there was no insulation under the diamond plate. Anyone from YFD remember this?
  4. The State of Conn. does not allow persons younger than 18 to take a FF1 class. I happen to agree with this. A 16 year old interior FF ? You've got to be kidding me. A 16 year old is too young and immature to enter an IDLH area and any Dept. that allows that to happen should take a step back and look at the big picture. I cringe when I read articles about a kid who dies enroute to a fire in a overturned car or truck. People get hurt in live fire training, it's unfortunate but true. A 16 year old does not have the maturity to make that kind of decision. I'm not saying that young people should not be involved in some way and be exposed to LIMITED training. However, counting on CHILDREN to perform a dangerous job that can get them and/or others injured is criminal in my opinion.
  5. Chris192 You hit the nail right on the head! BFD182 This is not a sex scandle. It is a case of alledged sexual assult of a CHILD. Huge difference!
  6. I think YFD910 must be a SUPER GENIUS!!! How else could he figure out how to make a moving Roto-Ray next to his name!! True story...
  7. Innocent until proven guilty... but if found guilty find a tall tree and get a short rope. Large YMCA camp, "Camp Jewel" is located in Colebrook, makes you wonder?
  8. The Fairfield Regional Fire School, Fairfield Ct., will be holding a FF1 class starting March 5, 2007. This class includes Hazmat Awareness. Cost is $400. For more information call 203-254-4708 or fdfairfield.com "You fight the way you train"
  9. EASTCHESTER FIRE- CAR 2106 1,127 Runs to Dunkin Donuts.
  10. This is a no brainer. He said the ambulance is the 1st. unit O/S. Park to the rear of the scene with the passenger side at an angle toward the scene. You can gain access to the rig for most gear via the side door. Leave the stretcher in the rig until you get back-up to your rear exposure. You should have some flares and road hazard triangles in the rig... use them. Make the scene as safe as you can. If this is a highway you need 200' safe zone. A car at 60 mph is going 88 feet per second, do the math. Why would anyone pull past the scene if they are on scene 1st? Partyrock, while an ambulance may not stop the car at highway speed that 5,000# rig with warning lights is alot better at it than a human body.

  14. HAND OVER THOSE SNIKERS BARS. I AM THE SHI_T COMMANDER!!
  15. HEY JOE... GOT ANY SNICKERS BARS? HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
  16. I PUT IN TWO OF THESE TYPES IN MY OLD HOUSE, ONE WAS A GAS LOG SET THE OTHER WAS A FREE STANDING CAST IRON VERMONT STOVE. HAD GREAT SUCCESS WITH BOTH. THEY CAME IN VERY HANDY DURING POWER FAILURES IN THE WINTER AS THEY REQUIRE NO POWER TO OPERATE. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH EITHER.
  17. NEWS 12 SHOULD BE ASHAMED. WHO MAKES THE DECISION TO TAPE AT A PERSON'S HOME? IS IT THE REPORTER OR A SEGMENT PRODUCER?
  18. I MIGHT BE WRONG BUT I THINK MILFORD DOES NOT NORMALLY TRANSPORT IN THIS UNIT, AN AMR AMBULANCE DOES THE TRANSPORT WITH AN FD MEDIC ON BOARD. I BELIEVE THEY CAN TRANSPORT IF NECESSARY, THESE UNITS ALSO RESPOND TO FIRE CALLS ALSO. MILFORD FIRE IS A ROCK SOLID DEPT. THEY HAVE SAVED MY FATHER-IN-LAW ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, GREAT EMS ABILITIES. ADVERTISED AS A CLASS 1 DEPT. AND I DON'T DOUBT IT! HAPPY TO CALL IT MY HOME TOWN.
  19. EASTCHESTER ALSO RAN TWO TILLERS, I BELIEVE BOTH WERE PRE WWII SEAGRAVES. ONE WAS STILL AROUND AS A SPARE IN THE EARLY 80'S. CURRENTLY OPERATE A REAR MOUNT 100' SEAGRAVE-L16; AND L-17 MID MOUNT 95' TOWER LADDER.
  20. LAST YEAR I COULD NOT SPELL GRADUATE... NOW I IS ONE.
  21. EMS IS NOT PROTECTED BY GOOD SAM LAWS. THESE LAWS PROTECT UNTRAINED CITIZENS IN GOOD FAITH ATTEMPTS TO ASSIST. EMS IS PROTECTED BY NYS AND REGIONAL PROTOCALLS. IF YOU ARE A "TRAINED" EMS PROVIDER AND PERFORM A FUNCTION BEYOND YOUR TRAINING... YOU WILL HAVE ALOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO TO A PERSON IN A BLACK ROBE AT A TALL BENCH.
  22. check out the Naughtuck (spelling may not be right) R.R. web site. It is just outside of Waterbury on the Waterbury Branch of the New Haven Line. Nice train ride and museum. I believe they are the only tourist line to go across the face of a Dam.
  23. "YOU FIGHT THE WAY YOU TRAIN" This is the motto of the Joseph Elias Fire Training Center, Fairfield Ct. Check out fdfairfield.com
  24. Several years ago I was working when one of our Eng.s had to back up in order to make a hydt. (front suction broke). A guy in a BRAND NEW Bmw was 2' off the rear bumper in the blind spot, $15,000 in front end damage. I then asked PD to write him a ticket for the 200' Law and they did. I also believe it was 2 points on his licence.
  25. Hey "Get the Roof" let's not forget the 1988 (ie 18 years old) duty officer car that is like Fred Flintstones car, you can see the asphalt from inside the car and use your feet to help stop it.
