They called the crew from "WRECKED" O'Hare towing from Chicago. They brought the rotator Kenworth and the three axle Mack in and put it upright.

I would always tell my truck guys not to even trust a sidewalk. There could only be an inch or two of concrete with no rebar in it and that could cave in under the weight of the rig. The outrigger street plates are all in their storage slots on the rig and the wheel chocks are also not used. Thankfully it didn't lay down on a power line or the outcome could be very different.

Hey Capt. Rick... nice job by Group 2. Looked like the trench drills we did 2 years ago only 1 mile away with the same FDNR, YFD and GFD units. Is this the same building we had the cellar fire in that had live goats kept inside? It was some type of Embassy.

Over the years I have had several elderly persons with severe upper torso burns from gas fired stoves. Two of them latter passed away. The newer gas stoves without pilot lights were the culprit. All of the incidents were the same time of day and situation. Early afternoon, elderly ladies went to make a cup of tea and sit down and watch soap operas. The gas did not light with the electric pilot and the stove top was left on high. The elderly loose the sense of smell, so none smelled the gas. Later when they didn't hear the water for tea boiling they went to see why. Being old school, they struck a match right over the stove top ( unable to smell the gas ). There was little if any fire damage to the apartments. One of the ladies had her old lady housecoat burned off of her, changed into another, went down to the garbage room to throw the burned one away and met another old lady who lived in the bldg. The other old lady saw the skin dripping off her face and called us to respond to an "unknown medical". We later learned that she had called her Doctor and made an appointment for later that afternoon, never telling the nurse she had been severly burned.

Hey... if you look REAL close you can see the old Mt. Vernon Rescue in the backround in one of those shots. I wonder how much they're gonna ask for it? Hudson you should bid on it when it comes up.

Hey Paul... why don't you sell umberellas and ponchos? Or do they sell better on sunny days?

Dept10; Chief, Has anyone ever considered a Code 2 responce (normal driving, no lights/ siren) for the units that are farther away? There is no argument that it puts your members and the public at greater risk running code 1 with a tiller truck to an outside rubbish fire that can be handeled with 20 gallons of water. I look at that other post about one tiller trying to "beat out" the other Eng. to get first water on some leaves. It just sounds like stories from 100 years ago. The basic question of risk vs. benefit can't be ignored.

Greenville was sent due to heavy call volume at that time in Eastchester. It was a judgement call on the 60 control dispatcher ( a good one ). We had rigs tied up at a 10 story OMD and I think 3 other jobs at the same time. The fire was on the 4th floor, lots of smoke ten cents of fire. Many doors forced on primary search, many elderly home at time of fire. Great job by EFD Group 3 " Italian Battalion". Thanks to Greenville and Capt. Gus and his crew. And yes... I had a cigar.

Roofs open... what makes it a "Union issue" as to the assignment to this call? And what is the crying wolf issue? You must go back to the origional post where he states " I was burned on this type of call a few years back with some incomplete information, turned out to be a structure fire." Well guess what, it is a structure fire. You can't fill out the NYS Incident report for this type of job without filling out the FIRE Incident module. Even more so if you open up the wall (structure damage) and you have to open the wall from the info you have so far. Could this be handled with a 1 & 1... maybe. But when you get there and the sparks and smoke actually happened 2 hours ago and the smoke smell never went away, thats when you need the assignment cause its already 2 floors above you in some other apartment. Now you get to chase it and the assignment you had isn't enough for what you are about to undertake.

Is it true that Nyack sends 8 fire apparatus to EVERY call? A trash can in a parking lot gets the same response as a dwelling fire at 3AM?
-
JBE hits the nail on the head. 100% on target. If I recieved less on the initial dispatch I would start out the full assignment before the overhead door was all the way up. Also LCFD968... I like my guys to take in a can and a CO2 on this type of fire. If its in the stud channel open up and hit it with the can. If its just the switch box, wack it with CO2. The ABC is VERY messy in a room for a small fire. You can do as much damage with an ABC as the fire, try to clean computer equipment after it has been in a room with 5 or 10# of ABC. Save the ABC for oil burners and main elect. panels.

That's why I still ride the back-step... no seat belts or air-paks back there, just fresh air and sunshine!

He actually called in SICK, he just stopped in to pick up his check and to make Gravy. ( The pork... yeah that's the flavor)

Hey George... Federico wants to know if he can have that gas can if you're done with it for his lawn business?

True story... several years ago I went bear hunting with Demps121, Get the roof, yfd910, and Fud27. We drove all the way to Acadia National Park in Maine. When we drove into the entrance to the park there was a sign that said "BEAR LEFT <"; so we went home.

So does this mean we don't get the Job?
-
Why not... it's just for information. I don't post alot here but I also don't carry a computer with me on the road. If I work a job that might be of interest it may be 6 or more hours until I get back to the office. Whats the difference?
-
NO... true story. I do know for a fact that Get the Roof was interested but he doesn't have a valid EMT card due to lack of CME training.
