For those of you from the south... that's a maul, y'all.

Quite possible the monitor was the one who reported it. If this is true BOTH cheating hairbags should be shown the door.

The aerial for Ladder 15 was actually repaired last week. L 15 is still running with E 31 out of temporary Sta 6 while Sta 5 is repaired. Prioir to its repair it was run for ground ladders and equipment. If an aerial was needed or if it was going to a known multi dwelling ( which there are alot of in its 1st due area ) the Duty officer would request for the 2nd truck to start out also.

No idea when we get back into Sta. 5 Sta. 6 is vacant auto body/ repair shop.

Ladder 15 has been assigned to temporary Sta 6 with E 31 for the last year while Sta 5 undergoes renovation. L 15 has no working aerial, only ground ladders, TL 17 will not fit in temporary Sta. 6 About 3 months ago L 16 aerial broke and TL 17 was parked outside at Sta 2 in Tuckahoe (it does not fit inside). Since the cold weather has set in we have had to run TL 17 out of the repair shop at Sta.1 and have reassigned E 27 to Sta. 2 so that it can be inside also. Over the weekend, other equipment problems resulted in only a spare duty car with 2 firefighters assigned to Sta. 6. As of 4 pm today we are back to "normal" 4 Engs.; 1 tower ladder; 1 truck with no aerial.

I have almost 22 years running the shift... and I believe I have it down to a science. First thing you do when you walk in the door is pour yourself a cup of coffee. The night shift will have 2 pots going. You might not get to drink it, but it's nice to have. The next thing to do is discuss what to have for dinner. This is where all of that preplanning comes into play. The only day there is no question what is on the menue is Sunday. Sunday is gravy (red sause with meat) for the Italian Battalion. Stay Safe.

What the heck is "par" staffing?

EFD Group 2; Eng 31 & 2102. Good job lads.

Glad to see that no one was injured... burning L.D.H. sure does make alot of black smoke doesn't it?

Great point to leave battery in place to be able to roll down windows, move seat etc. And yes, always check with PD about moving car or using absorball. They may want scene photos. As far as disconnecting battery; take the negative terminal FIRST. Just had this discussion the other nite with a younger member of my crew. If you go for the positive terminal first and hit a part of the car body with your tool you can actually weld your tool to the car. As far as disconnecting the battery, I can recall 3 car/ truck fires I've had that were on the hook of a tow truck comming through my district. The batteries were left connected by another Fire Dept. where the MVA occured and that Dept. failed to disconnect the battery. The damaged car is bouncing around on the hook and a pinched wire from the crash starts the car on fire. Tow truck/flatbed driver looks back and the vehicle on the hook is cooking. My rule is if the car is being towed away disconnect the battery... negative terminal first.

Pops... you have been around for a long time. Is it true the first order you heard on the job was "Giddy-up"?

Those of you who live or work in NY have alot of good pizza joints to choose from. In CT. it is harder to find GOOD pizza. Don't be too excited about Pepe coming to Yonkers. And by the way if you're in CT take I-95 Exit 24 in Fairfield and go to the Pepe's there; it's about 20 miles closer to NY then New Haven.
