Date: May 9 2012 Time: 03:00 Location: Near St. Lawrence University Golf Course Frequency: Units Operating: NYSP, Canton PD Weather Conditions: Description Of Incident: At approximately 0300 this morning, St. Lawrence University Security Officer heard 5 shots near or on the St. Lawrence University Golf Course. A guest of a SLU Student has been detained. The second person involved has not been found, who is most likely a guest of a St. Lawrence Student. Second person is described 5ft 8, 140 lbs, dark hair. No injuries or damages have been reported. Email has been sent out to all St. Lawrence University students and faculty. Will update more as soon as more information comes in. Morley borders Canton. It is in St. Lawrence County NY, and as ustadoit said its near Canada as well as Potsdam and Ogdensburg.

Canton Fire Department received two new pieces of apparatus. Engine 7 and Rescue 1early this year. Engine 7 is replacing a 1986 Sanford. New Engine 7 is a Seagrave and includes a 500hp Cummins Engine as well as a 2000gpm pump Rescue 1 is replacing a 2004 Seagrave. New R-1 is on a 2011 Spartan Metro Star Chassis.

I completely agree. If you do not have enough time, such as myself because I am a full time student in St. Lawrence County and have lots of other obligations, the bridge from a CC to a Paramedic is the way to go. That is the route that I am planning on taking this upcoming fall. How long was your bridge course?

I completely agree, its just disgraceful to lie about something like that, and then go so far that you are a Keynote speaker about a complete lie... Just awful

I am going through a similar endeavor right now whether to go for my CC in the fall or wait another year when I graduate from college to go for my Paramedic. Have you looked into the option of bridge courses from an EMT-I or CC to a medic?

During fire prevention week, a deliver guy from domino's rides with us and we deliver pizza to houses. If they have a working smoke detector in their house, the pizza is free. If not, they have to pay for the pizza, although we give them a free smoke detector.

From what I have heard, all of the responding apparatus that went is back in service and deemed "safe." All of the turnouts are still bagged up though.

Hey all...my name is Spencer, I am a member of the Goldens Bridge Fire Department in Westchester NY. I am currently a college student majoring in Government at St. Lawrence University. While at school I also am a mutual aid member Canton Fire Department in St. Lawrence County NY. I also work for St. Lawrence Emergency Medical Services which is a 24/7 first response agency that we have on our campus while school is in session. I have my FF1, FF Survival, Pump Ops, EVOC, and my EMT-Basic (going for ALS in the fall). I also just was recently appointed as Director and Chief of St. Lawrence University EMS and will be taking that role for a year long term starting in May after I finish my study abroad term.

Its not 100 percent volunteer, we have paid ALS providers

Yeah, International students as M/A members in the US who are not citizens, but have a visa for school. Could they be considered into membership?

What is everyones thoughts about accepting membership outside of the United States. I am a mutual aid member in a college town and there has been a discrepancy of whether or not to allow international students become members of the department whether they do or do not have prior firefighting or EMS experience. Thoughts?

I hope not, that was the first fire that New Engine 7 and R-1 was at after tons of delays. Would be a shame to loose them again for an extended period of time. Also, question out there about turnout gear. Say an individual is a mutual aid member at a fire department but wears his home gear at the fire, and now it is does need to be destroyed due to an incident like this, that the responsibility of the home fire department right?

I was wondering the same thing yesterday. One of my friends who responded to that fire told me that all of their gear was bagged up, including hand tools, hose, and SCBA's.
