  1. find ME a desk! ;-)
  2. Here's the story behind it, and they already mention the finding! Those guys at wikipedia are good! DB Cooper
  3. That Lt should be looking through bars instead of wearing them, no matter the professionalism of his refusal. This cry baby bickering on here is one thing, but when it affects the people we are EXPECTED to protect, wether paid for it or for free, that crosses the line BIG TIME! I would be "that guy" locking up anyone who recklessly endangers anyone, I promise it will be on video so it can be posted here too. Hypothetically of course ;-)
  4. PESW only accepts a limited amount of non-police personell, not sure if that quota is filled. (we are looking for Police Officers to join PM me if interested), I believe the Westchester County FD band is looking for people.
  5. Has any department phased out the whistle/house siren systems? It seems that in this day and age every active member has a pager/scanner and the siren system seems to be redundant, and frankly annoying. I do agree that in the past they were a valuable tool in notifying members (and the public) of an alarm, but now your average Joe doesnt even bat an eye when they hear the sirens go off.
  6. I like the daylight hours thing for "phase 1" of "operation phase out".
  7. I just heard on the news that he could resign "as early as this evening", that was at 8pm. If it was a cop he woulda been tossed out on his rear by now! They shouldnt give him the oppurtunitiy to resign, impeach him then charge and incarcerate him. Theyd do it to anyone of us, he should be the same!
  8. My Village would be BROKE in about a week, between fire veh, police veh etc.
  9. It looks like a crock. Some tree hugger making up another website. Now anyone, anonymous, can go on there and bash any cop. Amazing! Try doing that with politicians, I bet the site wouldnt last long.
  10. He did in fact those benefits and changed the 207c policy statewide, it now covers anything while youre working, before it was while working in a "hightened risk" situation, ie pursuit, arresting subject etc. The trouble is, the people before us who have milked the system make it harder for people who are legitimatly hurt to get the benefits.
  11. You as a member of a department either PD, FD or EMS may be restricted in what you can and cant comment on. Like I said, if you post on here with your real name you may be violating a department policy. Sure you can go out and blab about everything due to your first ammendment, but you may be looking for a job after that. I for instance cant comment on cases, calls etc. I wouldnt even put myself in a situation to reveal something I shouldnt be.
  12. I think the screen name thing works. If you personalize it and Joe Public signs on it may send the wrong impression if theyre not familiar with the "vibe" of emergency service personell. And, as has happened before, the newspaper has quoted this website, imagine if someone commented on something and it showed up in the news paper the next day as "according to Officer Smith of the county police..."? Some people would be looking for jobs.
  13. I knew that the background checks were law but I didnt see anywhere about the liability of the Chief and or company being a law.
  14. The trouble is now the kids are driving after these parties, we would carpool as corny as it sounds with a designated driver. Also, these kids are mixing alcohol with drugs. The county takes a big stand on them with increased enforcement in prom season as well as seminars yearly about underage drinking parties and enforcement. And the liability (which has changed across the board) is big with these parties. It seems more and more kids are suffering alcohol poisoning these days, back in the day I could drink like a fish and wouldnt need a hospital, maybe its something in the milk they drink. Being a parent now I agree with the stepped up enforcement, not that I was an innocent teen but everything changes as you get older and mature.
  15. Check this site out, shows everyone in your area. Easier to look up on here then the states registry, shows houses on a map. Family Watch Dog
  16. Its up to your local PD. some send out mass mailings and some are "afraid" for whatever reason! They should make the sex offenders pay for the mailings everytime they move!
  17. TOO FUNNY! i think that lights are bright in general, thats why, even more so with LED, vehicle positioning is paramount! Plenty of space between defendant's vehicle and your own and slighty cocked out to create an angle, studies shown vehicles striking police vehicles like that slide right back into traffic. Can never be too safe. Ive also started enforcing the reducing speed for stopped emergemcy vehicle, have yet to do it for ambulance or FD but rest assured its coming!
  18. Same example we set when speeding, rolling stop signs etc! We are our own worst enemies! Such is why I do make every effort to lead by example and be a good little alter boy! But agreed, nothing looks worse then a cop on a cell, official or not, use the speaker. I use nextel on speaker then put it in the visor in the open position and works great!
  19. You never know how many sickos are right around you. Im all for some sort of large gaudy lawn sign as well as distinctive clothing for these people! Rape, either child or adult is worse then murder, the victim lives with it forever and everyone around them is effected by it.
  20. What thread did i miss?
  21. I thnk the bashing could go on either side here, the cop for arresting a fire officer on the scene of an accident or the fire officer/driver for refusing the order and resisting. The last time I "bashed" the fire department I lost points and got a warning. Im since reformed though. I dont think its been posted on here before, but if someone wants to do the homework and clear up a lot of confusion, lets see the NEW YORK law in writing that states a fire department or ambulance has overall control of a scene and can refuse a "lawful order" from a police officer. Im curious myself but wouldnt know where to look and like I said, it would stop a lot of bickering no matter what side its in favor of.
  22. I would definitly have to agree with the placement of the rig, they were working on the shoulder and in the lane and appeared to be protected by only the police car. As you can see the traffic is definitly not slowing down and the rig was placed right. As far as the arrest, we as Police Officers are charged with public order, should our "orders" be disregarded by anyone it breaks down our public structure, especially by another emergency service provider. I agree with the fact that it should have been dealt with after the fact though, be it arrest after the fact or a reaming.
