  1. Cool. So the rigs will replace Engine 5, Engine 6, and Ladder 3. Interesting indeed. Also, I wonder why the lettering is "Engine E-5", rather than just "Engine 5" or "E-5".
  2. Correct. Boston's E-One sticks on single-axle chassis are 100'-110'. Now, however, the new E-One sticks have duel-axles in the rear to support the weight of the ladder. Correct me if I'm wrong, and maybe someone can clarify this, but I think all apparatus mfg.'s aren't allowed to make aerial ladders 100' or over noew without duel-axles in the rear of the truck for some reason or another. In Boston, the only ladders with single-axles anymore are Ladder 14, Ladder 19, Ladder 23, Ladder 25(Refurb.), and Ladder 29. The Pierce sticks are 100' RMA's mounted on duel-axle chassis. Boston's mid-mount towers are 95' and their rear-mount tower(Tower Ladder 10) is 85'.
  3. Wow, classic indeed. I'm guessing that the top video's from the early '60's, possibly '61. I never knew about the basket on the outside of the ladder the guys used as opposed to climbing it. As for the second video, it looks like it's from either the '20's or '30's. Great videos and a great find!

  8. No, the tiller will become Ladder 21 and the new tower will become Tower Ladder 20. Originally, up until 2008, Ladder 21 was a 1976 Seagrave 100' stick, and the tiller was Ladder 20.

  12. Just saying, but I wouldn't risk driving in the middle of this thing to get to the firehouse(even though I live about a minute away) if Irene's going to be as bad as they say it will be. Wouldn't want to get stuck out there. On a side note, and I think I speak for everyone, for every member who's living and/or working this weekend and into next week in Irene's path, stay safe!

  17. Sounds like a very good deal. I purchased the Code 3 FDNY Squad 18 online a few years back and just that one truck cost me nearly twice as much. It is sad to hear that Code 3 is folding, but it was a great run. I have noticed that in the last few years, the models don't seem to have the craftsmanship and detail as some of the older models, which could have been a sign that the company was going under. Anyhow, I'm happy with my own collection, and hopefully, I'll still be able to find some at Code 3 stores and musters. Farewell Code 3.
  18. Nice shots! I really like the Chevrons on the back of Engine 4! I was just up in Boston two days ago, but forgot my camera.

  21. It's disgusting how and where some people live, and a potential nightmare for emergency workers going to help these people. Like as you mentioned, SOUSGT, about some working conditions, you never know what your up against when you get to the scene of an emergency. Many homes and apartments are nice, but many are not, to put it bluntly. Another thing this whole issue brings to mind are the times I've seen hospital workers out in public with their scrubs on. Not to knock any hospital personnel, or start an argument. This may sound ignorant, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think that being in hospital(especially ER) environments, it seems to me that scrubs used in hospitals by hospital personnel should remain thein the hospital.
