  1. Another Boston hydrant...another BMW.
  2. I've heard that bids are currently being put out for 4 new Engines to replace Engine's 10, 11, 13, and 18 (those four companies currently run 1997 E-Ones) and 3 new Ladders to replace Ladder's 7, 8, and 10 (those three companies currently run 1996, 1997, and 1994 E-Ones respectively). Also, Engine 11's current rig, a 1995 E-One which was refurbished last year, may go to Engine 16 to reconstitute it. Engine 16 has been browned out indefinitely for the past several years. The current Engine 13 might go to Engine 28 to replace a 1989/2000 E-One telesquirt.
  3. Is the second rig assigned to just carry spare cylinders?
  4. Is Yonkers using that Excursion as their M.S.U. on a permanent basis as opposed to their ALF air cascade unit, or is it just temporary?
  5. I know its a small picture but I believe this is the Supertrain on the lower left. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  6. Nice kitbash. Is this Ladder 70?
  7. Great stuff, Ron! Keep it coming!
  8. Any old Yonkers photos out there?
  9. I personally agree with M' Ave. Just saying "nothing showing" is short and sweet and to the point. One could also say "nothing showing from the exterior".
  10. Those are some great shots! Really like the pics of 1841 CPA. I know it's not really "old Yonkers photos" (from '95), but does anyone have photos or info from the Carpet Shop Fire on Nepperhan Ave.?
  11. Could have been from the volunteer days. There were 14 volunteer companies in Yonkers by the 1890s. The only paid house ever on Warburton Ave., to my knowledge, was and is the current quarters of Engine 308, when they moved to 539 Warburton Ave. in 1933 from Woodworth Ave. were there were organized in 1907.
  12. Westport currently has a population of 26,400 residents living in 33.3 square miles. The population density is 790 per square mile and there are 9,600 households in town. The Westport FD currently runs approximately 4,000 emergency calls annually and operates 4 Fire Stations, 4 Engines, 1 Truck, and 1 Rescue(cross-staffed). There are 15 members on per shift and each member works a 24-hour shift (1/2/1/4). Engine 2, Truck 1, Rescue 3, Car 3(Asst. Chief, Shift Commander) - 515 Post Rd. E., Post Rd./Downtown (Headquarters for WFD and house Fairfield County Haz-Mat. Command Vehicles) Engine 4 - 555 Riverside Ave., Saugatuck Engine 5 - 66 Center St., Greens Farms Engine 6 - 61 Easton Rd., Coleytown Engine's 2 and 4 are each staffed by 1 Lt. and 2 Firefighters per shift. Engine's 5 and 6 are each staffed by 2 Firefighters per shift. Truck 1 is staffed by 1 Lt. and 2 Firefighters per shift, who also cross-man Rescue 3. Car 3(Shift Commander) is staffed by an Assistant Chief and a Firefighter(Driver/Aide) per shift.
  13. The new Engine 23 drove by me in traffic today on I-95 in Fairfield, CT. It looks great! I have some spy shots, but I hesitate to produce them if it's still a secret .
  14. Rest in peace brothers. Firefighter Mike R. Kennedy, 33 years old, of Ladder Co. 15 and Lieutenant Edward Walsh, Jr., 43 years old, of Engine Co. 33. Lt. Ed Walsh had 9 1/2 years on the job and lived in West Roxbury with his wife and three kids: two boys and a girl all under 10 years old. He was the son of a Watertown, MA FD lieutenant. His uncle was also a lieutenant and his cousin Tom is a captain in Watertown FD. Firefighter Mike Kennedy had 6 1/2 years on the job and lived in Hyde Park. He was single and a U.S.M.C. veteran. Firefighter Kennedy sat on the Board for the BFD Firefighter's Burn Foundation, which volunteers in helping burn patients.
  15. Nice shots, but there is no "Engine 56", at least not since 1960.
  16. Everything's gotta be a "controversy"... Congratulations to the couple!
  17. As "R1SmokeEater" already posted, from my understanding Yonkers send 4 & 2, Rescue, and 1 BC on a Box. On a 10-29(Working Fire)/10-30(All Hands), an additional Truck (used to be an Engine) is sent as the F.A.S.T. along with a BC (if available) for the Safety Officer. The YFD used to send Car 5(Safety Battalion) to jobs but since they were disbanded, a BC operates as the Safety, of a company officer if one is unavailable. Also, YFD Car 6(Fire Investigation Unit) and the Mask Service Unit may get sent on a 10-29/10-30. Also, Yonkers has a large and impressive Spare and Reserve fleet: I believe around 3-4 Spare Engines(300-Hose Wagon, 305, 315, 316), 2 Spare Ladders(76, 77), 1 Spare Tower Ladder(81), and 3 Reserve Engines(317, 318, 319), 2 Reserve Ladders(78, 79), and 1 Reserve Tower Ladder(80), as well as a Reserve Squad(SQ21) and Rescue(R2) (maybe a YFD guy can correct me on the numbers). The Reserves are fully equipped to run as additional units, staffed by callback personnel, while the Spares operate when a company's frontline rig goes down for maintenance or service repairs.
  18. Let's just call it "happy Festichristmahanukwanzamasyear". I'm pretty sure that covers all the holidays between December and January quite nicely.
  19. I believe it will be a Spartan/ERV, similar to 21 Engine.
  20. "Made it ma, bottom of the world!"
  21. What a great guy! Once a firefighter, always a firefighter!
  22. Does anyone have a list, or has WCDES made a list of the Car Assignments for fire departments in Westchester County? I know that there is an Apparatus Plate listing(http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php/topic/22652-westchester-apparatus-plate-assignments/) for all Engines, Ladders, Tower Ladders, Rescues, and other apparatus, however, no Command Cars are listed (i.e. Car 2392, Car 2292, Car 2305, etc.). The only cars listed there are from 60 Control.
