NYC Transit has formed a Haz Mat team to support the FD and PD with WMD incidents in the subway system. They are getting at least one and are working towards at least a second one.

Yes there can be a break in the third rail at road crossings and other structures like switches. The engines and or cars are equipped with multiple shoes to contact the third rail in multiple places. This allows individual shoes to not be in contact with the rail at any one time but the motor to still receive power.

As Truck 6018 stated you are still required to drive with due regard. It stated in the first post that the rig was travelling at 25mph and was planning to make a right turn anyway. Any competent driver can tell you that is too fast to make a turn with an engine loaded with hundreds of gallons of water. Never mind the fact he should have been stopping for the red light before proceeding through the intersection.

As someone has just mentioned The Onieda County Airport site is a new training site. This site is being run by the Office of Homeland Security. This training site is intended to provide training specializing in terrorism and other Homeland Security issues. Though OFPC is a partner in the training at this site it is NOT a site that will be used or intended to teach standard fire training courses. As for Camp Smith and being an instructor there, it was nice to have an annex there but the facilities were substandard and very many courses were cancelled over the years due to a lack of enrollment.

Getting back to the topic that was raised to begin with. The reason half of the pictures of apparatus in the mam'k parade have no lights on is that those pictures we're taken before the parade started while departments we're arriving at the parade or shuttling marchers to the start.

As other people have mentioned outside and far away is great. The one issue that hasn't been discussed is making sure that those patients have been through decon before they get to you. The types of chemicals found in a meth lab have the possibility to get into the clothes and skin of the individual and then off gas inside your ambulance later. keep that in mind.

NIMS did call for the use of plain language in all transmissions especially when dealing with multiple units from different agencies. Recently though, they have changed their minds to some extent. The police agencies made an uproar over the use of plain language. They feel that they should still have the ability to hide certain transmissions from prying ears. As far as I know, NIMS intergration center has changed their mind to some extent as for allowing the use of some type of code system for certain situations. Think about it who wants to be anouncing to the world I have dead victims or found certain evidence.

Here in the village of mamaroneck we currently use the horns 24/7 they are set off by the use of the pager system and have a delay in them so we can hear the message before the horns start blowing. Historically, you could know the location of an alarm due to the number of times the horn blew. Currently we only blow 4 for minor alarms and 8 for full assignments. This is done in two rounds of blasts. We are currently trying to update the system from our gamewell. Besides use as a secondary notifcation system for members, it is also used as a public warning system for flooding conditions, and the closure of school. It is my understanding that if you have volunteer members you must have a secondary means of notification in place. I can't quote any specific law. Can anyone come up with it?
