Only hiring full-time right now.

It was a Mohegan job, if that helps at all. Great job Robbie!

Absolutely not. I'm not condoning, or saying, woo go ahead and just keep fighting in dresses! Haha, but really. It was absolutely an unnecessary risk, but you could "almost" claim that they made the best out of a bad situation. Yes, but in the time it takes for the people with the proper tools to get there, there are things that you can do.... Here's a great "what if"... What if you and an officer are driving on the highway, you just picked up your engine from the shop, because it was there for minor routine maintenance. Everything has been tested, and it's ready to go in service. You get flagged down for a car on fire. Both of you didn't bring your gear with you because maybe you forgot it, or just weren't planning on needing it(again, what if). The nearest firehouse is 15 minutes away. Are you guys just gonna look at the car as it burns with 500 or 1000 gallons of water on wheels behind you, just because your wearing your station gear? Come on, we can crucify them for wearing dresses all we want, but they probably would have looked worse just standing there(with the knowledge of what to do in their head), not doing a damn thing.

Yeah that video has been making its rounds, but I'm gonna give them credit where credit is due. I hate parades and taking apparatus and members out of service for one, but that is a topic for another day. These guys fought that from a distance, didn't try to go up to the truck and pop the hood, but just lobbed water onto it. During that video, I didn't see them get engulfed by smoke or steam, and were always a full lane between them and the truck. What happened after the video ended, who knows, maybe they did just waltz up to the truck and go at it from there, in dresses. The difference between this video and the one about Armonk, Armonk was dispatched to that fire and that's what they showed up with, these guys were just flagged down. Should you be ready for anything at any time, absolutely, but these were two completely different circumstances.

Jumper cables cost $20. Vehicle wiring harnesses are what we are talking about. Big difference.
-
So what if one of those bystanders were using a water can and standing next to the car as that tire exploded... Well you didn't have any victims but now you do. If there is nobodies life in danger, leave the work to people with proper training.
-
Just a great response from all involved. Assuming the people recording had already called 911, a 6+ minute response time with just one firefighter Officer is just fantastic! And for that other guy to just jump on into the smoke and flames with his obvious department issued Dickies pants and shirt, which of course are both commonly accepted PPE. Just a great job all around.

Go stand up in front of your entire company, old timers and all, and just tell them that your gonna change something that has been around for as long as the department. Yes, it makes sense to us young guys(yourself included), and our generation, but to them, all we are is know-it-all kids that are trying to change everything. 200 years of tradition unchanged by progress.....

But what if there is no educational requirement from the bottom up... I know many departments where some or most of the officers have absolutely no college experience, let alone just scraping by in high school.

The "Senior Guys" will be the ones that were brought up by their parents with a work ethic, and not to question the authority. These will be the guys that make it that long, and the most respected guys on the crew. Among all the garbage, they will stand out.

And that would have answered his question if the engine was on there...

Im telling ya, if you can't see one of those rigs, you've gotta be blind. Thing looks nice, and good luck with it.

I'd love to see it happen. Have the society send out e-mails, saying only if you get this, you may attend. When the black applicants cry foul and the media shows up, you have the full attention of many, and can explain, "well they did it, so why are we different?" It would put Sharpton in a bit of a corner. And I know what they say about the moral high-ground, but.....

And as we all thought: http://statter911.com/2012/03/01/race-or-space-details-on-a-confrontation-at-fdny-candidates-tutoring-workshop-put-on-by-vulcan-society/ White candidates denied entry.

He popped it with a punch in his left hand in the corner by the C-post. While everyone was focusing on their friends hand tapping the window....

Quick question, I heard mention of something called a UTAC, between 60 control and county cars on scene. What is "UTAC" ?
-
87D, Your reply made more sense, and now I understand what you were originally trying to say. Sorry if my response sounded snippy.
-
How can you say that? They are a competing commercial agency that has just as much at stake as the rest of them. If they ever wanted those contracts, put out a bid, or apply, or whatever is necessary to get it. They are just starting lower down in terms of how large their company is. But to say "I hope they dont think that they will ever get "XYZ" is quite condecending and mean to the new management who are trying to make better for the company.
-
Exactly. That involves thought and planning.
-
But taking a ride in the bucket looks so much better on the front cover of the local newspaper.

Oh you haven't heard? They are the new Harlem. But really, all kidding aside, they did 778 runs last year.
