The PC (probable cause) of the motor vehicle stop was the out marker lamp. Upon running the license learn that it is suspended, take him in for a custodial arrest (even though it is only a misdemeanor). The car will be inventoried prior to being towed. The firearm is unloaded by the officer for safe storage in a evidence locker (safe keeping while being processed). The magazines stay with the gun & the ammo goes into a different locker (guns & ammo are never kept together). So the officer now finds more rounds than permitted by law. This results in an additional charge. If his only violation was the marker lamp, I doubt they would've searched him or his car. Since he was placed under arrest for a crime (suspended license), I don't see how this would violate his 4th amendment rights.

I've held my tongue long enough. No one knows why the shooter did this. Let the police finish the investigation instead of coming up with theories. Society has changed. I don't know how/why it did. Things aren't like they used to be. I grew up playing cops & robbers, army & video games. I didn't turnout to be a sociopath. It is tragic that this had to happen. I feel that since the media sensationalize all these shootings, you get the copycats. The media are a bunch of vultures. All they care about is ratings. The families should be allowed to mourn in peace. Everyone that's screaming for gun control should look at the laws already in place. They just need to be enforced better. The shooter drove to the school. If we had banned cars, he never would have made it to the school (sarcasm). Anybody remember the Fast & Furious program the FEDERAL gov't implemented? The gov't wanted to track straw purchases of guns going to Mexico. It worked real well. The program got Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry killed on Dec 15, 2010. You expect the Feds to protect us with gun laws?!?! I conceal carry because the world is not full of rainbows & unicorns. The POTUS & elected officials get armed security details. Who is there to protect my family from the scum of society? That's right, me and my evil guns. Before you all jump down my throat, let me introduce myself. I'm Justin Lurix & the 2nd Ass't Chief of the Botsford Fire Dept in Newtown, CT. I also work for a neighboring police agency that responded to the school. These are my personal feelings & have no reflection on my agencies.

It's a big deal for people because parade season is among us. Personaly, I think parades are a waste of time. A real fire truck will have dings, scratches, and god forbid the water spot!

I have a better idea. The State of NY should instal suicide boxes on the bridge. Put a quarter in the slot, enter the box. Once in the box, it'll ask you if you really want to kill yourself (yes/no buttons). Once the person presses the yes button, the machine does the rest. Then a lil light can come on in the office on the bridge letting them know there's a clean up in isle 5. This way, traffic isn't jammed up and people can go on their merry way. Now we don't have to worry about the news glorifiying it. In the town I work in, we've had several people threaten suicide ( the frequent fliers). They didn't always succeed on the first try but always found a way to get the job done. Theses people were in & out of treatment facilities. If your mind is made up to end your life, there's nothing anyone can do to stop you.

Why can't we stop beating this dead horse? You're not going to lose blue light privileges. Lots of states have the PD's running red/blue lights. CT PD's have been running red/blue for ages and the vollies have run blue lights. there have been no problems here. Even if you lose the privilege of using blue lights, who cares? Granted, when I was younger, I used to go all out with the light bar and lights in the grille etc.... I found I get to the firehouse just as fast using just a dashlight now. rarely do I ever go directly to the scene unless it's just down the street. The State of Connecticut now allows vollies to have flashing white lights (flashing headlights only). You need to have the local police chief sign the permit. Want to know something I noticed? Even with the flashing headlights, traffic still doesn't move (shocking). We should be more concerned about making firefighting safer and eliminating senseles LODD deaths. If you joined the FD to use a "cool" blue light, you joined for the wrong reason. So can we move onto something more constructive? I doubt the PD's in NY are going to force the FD's to remove the blue light/lens from the rear of the apparatuss. Yes, I'll admit the blue does stand out. But people are stupid (job security) and will still crash into the parked apparatus no matter what colored lights you have flashing. Everyone seems concerned about response times. If you have trouble getting trucks out the door, start a duty crew if possible. Better yet, start off small with a night duty crew. Have 4 FF's assigned to it from say 8p-6am. I'll even use examples. If it takes you 4 min to get to the firehouse, then another 6 min to get to the scene, you're talking 10 min. If you had the duty crew, you'd be there in 6 min. That's a big difference in an emergency. The volunteer fire service is just that, a SERVICE. If you can't get your customers (residents/businesses) the best service they deserve, isn't that a DISSERVICE to them? End of rant. PS, I'm not trying to incite a riot here, I just think we need to get our priorities straight.

Believe it, this is a real call. They played it during some of my dispatching classes. People today are ignorant. We drill into everyones head to call 911 for emergencies. But the kicker is, everyone not in emergency services has a different opinion as to what an emergency is. To this lady, this was an emergency to her. To you or me, it's just ridiculous. I get 911 calls all the time at work for roaming dogs, flat tires, loud music from the neighbors, etc... Most of the time, these people think it's an emergency. The others are just too lazy to call information to get the routine number. My favorite one is when someone calls 911 for an ambulance because their doctor told them to get to the hospital. It's not an emergency, the doctor just didn't like the test results and needed them to come in for more. I don't think that there will ever be a solution to the abuse of the 911 system. I'm all for helping someone in their time of need. It's just hard to put someone on hold with a true emergency to answer these assinine calls. I hope my rant made sense since it's 2 am and i have other things going around at work.

Originally 1 company response (Redding Ridge). Received a second call from the homeowner stating the house was now on fire. West Redding & Georgetown districts were dispatched as automatic mutual aid for structure fires. Extension from the chimney to the attic & second floor. Redding Ridge was enroute 1 min after dispatch due to being out on another call. Mutual aid was toned out shortly after the original dispatch. I can't post the times yet due to the ongoing investigation. Units operating Redding Ridge E1, E3, Tanker 4, Car 2, Car 5, Ambulance R50 & Medic 5 delta 4 (standbye at the scene) RC2 has command West Redding E1, Tanker 2 Georgetown Tanker 3, Engine 4, Tower 8 Georgetown FM Bethel E6 originally was for station coverage but got bumped up to the scene to assist with overhaul. Command reports fire is under control at 1:02 a.m., mutual aid units are starting to pick up.

Simple, it comes down to costs. Lifestar is privately funded and recoups it's money to operate by billing you. I believe it costs a min of $1000 an hr to operate and then needs maintance after so many hrs of flight time. Right now, Trooper 1 is out for the next 3 weeks for mainatance (it's down for 5 weeks total and 2 have already past). Doesn't anyone find it odd that the mediator in this debacle is also the city's attorney? I always thought the mediator was a neutral outside party.

My feelings on the matter is the local PD's should not risk officer's live for these Presidential hopefuls. That's what the Secret Service is for. How many brothers/sisters have to die doing escorts? I'm sorry lil Suzzy/Johnny, daddy/mommy won't be coming home ever again because he/she died escorting a politician through traffic. We'll never have them back, but the Presidential hopeful thanked us but will forget about us in a few days. We have enough dangers daily to deal with, why add something totally useless to it? Just my 2 cents.

Just my 2 cents, if you're a public servant using taxpayer vehicles, you have no right to privacy. These "Fire Inspectors" are supposed to do inspections of comercial buildings, mult-family dwellings. They are supposed to be finding hazards that could hamper firefighting efforts or even kill a firefighter. For them to falsify a log stating they were in one place when they were out doing personal business with a city vehicle is a disgrace. They claim that they didn't know that the new vehicles had GPS installed. Funny, i remeber the article last year stating the new vans would be GPS enabled to keep track of the Inspectors during working hours for accountability. Also, the article from last year stated it was to track whether or not the Inspectors were doing their jobs. That seems like plenty of notice to me. As a dispatcher, everything I do is taped/monitored to see if everything was done within guidelines of my agency. I'm just sick of public servants that cry foul when they get caught doing something they shouldn't have been doing. If they did their job, they wouldn't be in the situation they are now.
