  1. batallion chief. but dept chief was on scene and suffered a minor burn on his hand. If i can find the article in the paper ill copy it
  2. This was considered an arson and an arrest was made. The suspect was upset his friend got evicted due to unsanitary living conditions.
  3. found this on google Purple Lights Purple Lights, although rarely seen, are affixed to hearses or funeral vehicles to warn others of a procession. These are by no means emergency vehicles, and you're in no way mandated to move out of the way for these vehicles. Purple Light Conclusion: Non-emergency, used on hearses for funeral processions. You're not mandated to move over. .Source: "New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law". 2007-2008 Edition.
  4. Maplewood is a town of colonie volunteer fire dept. At this time the mayors of watervliet and cohoes are not sure what they wanna do yet as a merger. If they do merge a station in cohoes would have to shut down (cohoes has 3 stations). the mayor of cohoes is afraid that might hurt response times in the city. In my honest opinion and thats all it is. The mutual aid agreement between Watervliet, Green Island, and Cohoes works great. If one city gets a call for a fire as their depts being dispatched so is the other 2 depts. It gets the fires out more quickly and helps reduce the number of fire fighter injuries. And Watervliet and Green Island just shared the cost of a arial truck for use in both the city and village. And Watervliet covers all ems calls in green island with their ambulance service. So there is some consolidation of services with those 2 depts
  5. Watervliet Cohoes and Green Island all respond on the 1st alarm unless told to back down. Watervliet also covers green island with its ambulance service. And recently Cohoes has been going to the scene of fires in the Lansingburgh section of Troy. And It takes green Island about 3-5 minutes to get a crew together for mutual aid because they only run with 2-3 men a shift
  6. felt in albany (NY) made the shelves at the autoparts store i work at shake a little but no damage. Mother didnt feel it in Troy and Wife didnt feel it in Schenectady. But their co workers said they did and that there was also no damage.
  7. As far as it goes with lathams heavy rescue. yes it is oversized. With Maplewood fire dept they run mutual aid with latham for car accidents on I 787 and Alternate Rte 7 so really they dont need a rescue pumper or heavy rescue. Verdoy does need the quint because each ladder truck that is near them is at least 5 minutes away and that time depends on if they can get a crew ready in a decent time. 2 of colonies fire depts run mutual aid to the Albany international airport if needed (Verdoy and Shaker Road Loudonville are the 2 depts. So if you look at what they cover and help cover you would realize there is a need for these depts. And colonie center is on central ave not western turnpike. Western turnpike is guilderland who is covered by 5 depts and that mall is Crossgates Mall. I have lived in this area all my life, I have relatives and friends that are part of some of these depts. I see this article in several ways. yes these depts should learn to cut down on spending but then again they spend the money to keep the people safe. and alot of their money is made by fundraising.
  8. the town is very well protected by the 12 fds. Each fd covers a large area and several of them have specialties. And yes several of them should be merged or considered to be merged( example Colonie village, Midway, Fuller Rd, and Stanford heights are all located on Central Ave (rte 5) all less than 5 miles from each other. Others that could be considered for something are Menands and Schuyler Heights. They are less than a mile from each other.
