  1. you are right, i stand corrected so, what happends if he is convicted?
  2. and what happens if he is indicted on federal charges?
  3. thats nice i'm not saying he doesn't deserve the award, but i am saying if the feds indict Mr. Hess, it will look poorly for the PBA. I do not think that Mr. Hess should be indicted with anything, BUT (again) Mr. Henry has very powerful connections and we should ALL be worried that he might use them to "avenge" his son. i'm just looking at the facts and the reality of this
  4. he did the job he was trained to do, and still has his own life. this "award" is borderline tasteless since the feds are still investigating, PPD PBA should've waited until all investigations are closed. I'm sure he will be acquitted on these accounts, but Mr. Henry (the father) is politically powerful man; i guess we will see how this plays out
  5. Just wanted to thank the squantz eng co. for a damn good time today. They had very generous taste tests of over a dozen different chills, and even though my GPS took me the longest route possible, it was still in all a great event for only $5!
  6. great rigs, all the best OFD!
  7. thanks alsfirefighter, you have always been a voice of reason on this forum i appreciate the backup i am indeed not bashing, i have stated issues with both Vollie and Paid. I just think there are many reasons for Vollies to be subpar and unfortunately we have to "deal with it" for the time being. On the other hand, Paid EMS has no excuse. If you can't do your job well and do it right, you deserve to be fired, that goes for any job in any industry; public SERVANTS are no different. If you think otherwise, move to Wisconsin
  8. sorry, i disagree 100% when taxpayer money is used if you need a party to 'pat yourselves on the back' you shouldnt be in public service, again - only if public money is used i know some agencies use private funds to refill their FD bar taps and soda machine and that's fine (as far as finances go) Unlimited beer flowing 24/7 at the FD is another very serious issue... my former agency collects usual tax money, BILLS patients insurance AND they beg for money via 'boot drops' and sending letters to homes asking for more money. please tell me SOMEONE on here is unbias enough to see the concern...
  9. daaaaaamn, chill out people usually when someone puts the "sorry for the rant" disclaimer on the post that means they're getting out frustrations a post that started to be "IMHO" went a little off target helicopter...again, the disclaimer... yes, my former agency, as MANY OTHER agencies in the surrounding area have EXPENSIVE parties and other PERKS at the expense of the taxpayer! maybe not in your area, but definately in mine! my former agency(s) spend about $10,000 for 2 lavish parties (EDIT: these 2 parties happen each year) and the majority of people think it's ok and those that condemn it still attend it because it's a place to get drunk and eat for free!! most all of the vollies i know are wonderful and caring people, they just suck at being EMT's (and they know it) but what can they do?? they have other responsibilities in life, you have the ability to train and retrain PAID EMT's sorry, there isn't an excuse for being a sucky paid EMT, and i blame the state of NY, REMSCO and the company(s) for allowing EMT-B's and Medics to be subpar. if youre a paid guy and suck, you deserve to be fired, plain and simple not so easy to do to vollies Get ready...another disclaimer...YES, i know not everyone sucks at EMS, but we SEEM to agree that EMS personnel are getting worse each year. thats the rant
  10. an agency i used to vollie for did "unofficial" checks through PD friends just to confirm they didn't have a criminal history. we did have one felon in the agency (computer hacking) but never had an issue with him at all i would just say it's a decision based on the individual, the crime and dept
  11. From the comments it sounds like there was some of mismanagement within the FD. As someone who’s having a tough time paying off student loans, I sympathize with the dept, but unfortunately the banks want their money and the banks always get it. I would suggest requesting a forbearance or deferment, but it might be too late for that.
  12. IMHO i know "paid" guys aren't always the cream of the crop, but volunteer EMS needs to go ASAP i have never met a well trained volunteer EMT that wasn't a career EMT. vollies don't care about EMS, they care about their agency's name, their agency's MONEY and their agancy's social cliques. I would be the first person to sign a petition to close down all vollie EMS in the county. With the vollies uniform allowances, their pensions, their $5,000-$10,000 parties and all of the other perks "vollies" get they're no longer actually volunteers!!! They're a form of under qualified cheap labor, I'd rather all that pissed away money go to a WELL TRAINED PAID CREW! Don't even get me started about vollies response times, it's so disgusting i can't even think about it anymore. I am a former vollie that no longer participates in any agengy because i can't stand what all VAC's and some vollie FD's have become in recent years edit...sorry for the rant, it's just tough to see what VAC's have become and it angers me to no end...
  13. not sure if i'm allowed to post this here, but when reading the comments on the Poughkeepsie Journal site, this one stuck out and this person is really speaking the truth: from poster "ctscts" "Its a betrayal other police pay for. Ask any cop what the difference is between working in a population that trusts the police and a population that distrusts the police. How much harder and more dangerous that job becomes. And why do people distrust the police? Because of the bad apples. Instead of being lenient on him because he is a cop, they have to double down on his punishment. Betraying the trust between the public and the police places all cops in future danger. Throw the book at him. A cop's betrayal of society is far worse than the common criminal's betrayal of society because the distrust the bad apple creates destroys lots of good police work in the community."
  14. Thanks Dan, I'll probably just be swinging by for a taste test My chili isn't quite ready to be in a contest!
  15. Hey Dan, Is this open to the public? I didn't see anything in the flyers about attendance Edit: sorry, didnt see your last post myself and a guest might be interested in attending
  16. yea, if that is the reason it's not a good one lol i don't quite get why this can be considered confusing...
  17. Just read that this 'chemical suicide' originated from Japan and it all over internet message boards. Very scary stuff. I'm not sure what the exact chemical compounds are, but this may be very dangerous to emergency workers if the person that dies isn't kind enough to leave a warning sign
  18. The man's father is supposedly a doctor in Irvington/Dobbs Ferry. Unfortunately Lohud/The Journal News are their typical low life selfs for not blurring out that plate
  19. Congrats to TFD, I remember the old 1970's open cab E88 and rode it a few times as a junior FF (in 2001-2002) May the new E88 give you the same longevity of the old one
  20. Hey Madison, forgot to add that you could ask the local high school if pvac could do a recruiting assembly. Over on the "dark side" (HA!) we set up something like that with boces. might as well give it a shot
  21. Well done Somers! I wish to see other agencies also step away from their pride and psuedo-social clubs and to also further enhance their communities
  22. I agree being at a drug infested strip club the night prior to your wedding is odd, but that is irrelevant. The second he became erratic behind the wheel and flipped into vehicular assault mode, i agree I’d probably shoot in my defense or the defense of bystanders or my partner(s), but shooting 50 times is irrational behavior and shows poor judgment from officers that are/were poorly trained. I hate to say it, but is all cops were trained as troopers in their paramilitary expertise, the probability of these kind of events would drastically decrease. When you’re trained as a traffic cop, you won’t do well in these circumstances. When you’re trained as military personnel, you will. not to mention you'll get an all around better cop
  23. Further down the article the author states the cops have been on modified duty and now may lose their jobs. couldn't hope for anything else...
