I forgot to say our department get's new chiefs trucks every 2 years. The local police dept buy's our old trucks and adds them to there fleet, they use them in the winter time or during big storms.Plus we always keep a spare car which is used for many different things. So we really only have 3 chiefs trucks. The pick up truck that I drive was going to be a utility truck but we put in service last year as a chiefs truck instead.

My department we don't allow PV's at car accidents. But for a large fire we do allow PV's as long as there out of the way and our members understand this. Car accidents I look at it like this we already have an engine, chief vehicles, our rescue, medic's, and police vehicles why make it anymore dangerous or confusing with PV's. On highway calls I-95 or the HRP no PV's at all. I rather have everyone respond to HQ and we will dispatch what is needed. It's all about saftey and PV's on the highway's,chances are the highway's are backed up due to the accident so they won't get there anyway. If it's a working fire most of our members respond to the firehouse and if everything left the house then they can roll in there PV's. Our problem is more with our local police dept. then anything else. They seem to think there the Fire dept,As well as the police dept. Very frustrating sometimes so were trying to work together but you know how that can go. Ego's clash. As a chief I try to work with them but my main concern is my men and women of the fire dept, not the police dept. I'll stop there I can go on forever about our problems with our police Dept.

Anyone know why the tones went off today around I think 6:00pm? I was at the firehouse and our house alerts went off along with Rye,West harrison,Purchase, Port Chester, Mamaroneck Village and town I believe. For a minute I thought we were in for something major. I feel a little silly but I told all my guy's in the house to gear up and pack up and get ready for directions from 60-control. Reminded me of the time the tanker hit in North white Plains.

Harrison there allowed to wear shorts also. Now if I could just get my job to allow shorts that would be great.

They gave a test I believe last summer,I recieved the info about the test right here on this site. Not sure how often they give it though.

My department the engine driver must atleast have his/her gear on the rig and get dressed at the scene but it is up to the driver some want to get dressed before they leave the house like if it's raining or really cold out. Anyone riding the rig other then the driver be in full turnout gear and packed up. As for me personally I don't mind driving in my bunker pants. If it's really cold or I know it's going to rain I'll bring my gear in the garage or basement get dressed and then get in the truck. Who want's to try to get dressed in pouring rain? We've all done it and it's not fun.How about putting your socked foot in 3 inches of snow!! Fun right. Well guess I went on a little ramble...
