  1. Nice video, I just watched his other video last night after seeing it in the related column from a video my friend sent me.

  3. I heard bhfd get dispatched to the interstate not too long ago i guess they took it back. But a rescue pumper would be a good addition to them. How old is the truck yhfd is replacing?
  4. Easily put...when its too late. That is when people will stop being so obsessed with call volume or the good calls, and look at the real reason why they are firefighters.
  5. I think it is for the Fire Suppression System? Just a guess as well. I think i've usually seen them mounted i/a/o the am/fm radio just below that. Not usre though. Looks good though nice job.
  6. Listening to the scanner it happens a lot usually they go the full three sets of tones and then mutual aid gets requested and then end up canceling them and get a driver and emt. The fire goes the same way a decent amount of time or just get a chief on the road thats it.
  7. I think that it has to do with several variables: Erratic operator: Caller has bad eyesight, frantic, not familiar with the area, trying to give the erratic operator some room to avoid any unpredicted actions, or the person could be in front of the erratic and not be able to see the license plate (could be no front plate). Suspicious person: Caller again bad eyes, elderly, not familiar with the area just would like police to check out, person just doesnt seem like they belong, time of day, distance and objects between the caller and the suspicious person (ie. woods, long driveway) This person may be in a place where no one ever is (nothig wrong with that just seems unusual) MVAs: Caller could be traveling at a fast speed and drives past the accident without seeing much, caller could be frantic, unfamiliar with the area, callers could be on cell phone and loose connection and service. This is just some stuff, you also get more calls with the see something say something motto. A big part about it is the lack of knowledge or common sense that the caller has, i dont think there is much that can be done in order to fix this, you cant go around giving out flyers only call if you have all this information. Its more of a caller than a dispatcher thing.
  8. No to avoid yet another topic that gets hijacked and goes off target. To stay ON topic doesnt the state have a USAR team as well or is that the same as the albany team?
  9. This might as well just be closed now, because the answers were not provided last time I highly doubt they willl be provided this time and its just going to set everyone off all over again.
  10. And so it begins yet again.
  11. Nope this wasn't just an air horn it had other tones as well.
  12. Well since this got off topic a lil bit, yeah losap was a fine idea if there was a way to make it not have the effect that it does on volunteer fd's. Losap is nothing but problems like someone stated before Another thing that bothers me is the kids that join so they can put it on a scholarship application or a college application and makes them look good but never show up, what can you do about that? And to keep it on track with the primary question of course i'd still volunteer thats the whole point, lights are a plus but arent needed, in my experience they have never hurt and have always been nothing but a large asset to myself and the rest of the members in the dept. Yes you get those who drive reckless then thats up to the chiefs and the police to deal with. If you cant act responsible you should loose the privlage of having one, (yes it is not a right to have a light because the chief has to give you a card as per nys. Its for the community and the helping and friendlyness that there should be. The fd isnt how it used to be theres too much crap theres too much quarterbacking and no one cares about what everyone should care about and that is the safety of the town and those traveling through it. Isnt the purpose of the fd to preserve life and property, lets stick with that and how we can better ourselves and our departments, not how can we make the site better. I mean no personal attacks or anything by this just speaking my mind.
  13. Oh i'm sure they will make it all red and who knows maybe they will add blue to the rear of the light bar too.
  14. Yeah i thought they were caution too hence me not pulling over but then he turned the siren on and blew the air horn it wasn't worth it. I thought white lights were only allowed if you were an emergency vehicle?
  15. I have no idea but one of them pulled out from the shoulder after helping a motorist with what appeared to be a flat tire in the area of Readers Digest on the Saw Mill (no lie) a siren (wail, yelp what have you) and blasting an electronic air horn to get through traffic then took off in the left lane siren still blaring and got off the Saw Mill at the Chappaqua exit. When he got behind me in traffic I didn't know what to think because they have amber and white lights to the front so I didnt move (they arent emergency vehicles) then he just blasted the air horn at me until i decided whatever and moved over. I hsve no idea why help trucks have sirens or why help trucks even need to have them.
  16. HELP Trucks also have sirens.
  17. ok so he's out, what's the big deal now? What's your point?
