  1. 1645: West Nyack FD requested for a possible fire at the West Nyack Elementary School, 661 West Nyack Road. 1st arriving Clarkstown Police Cars 218 & 220 reported the playground equipment in the rear of the school was fully involved in fire, thick black smoke visible for miles. Photos can be viewed on my website as usual: http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/wn071308 http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/wn071308

  3. Clakstown Police picked up the vehicle on Route 303 N/B from the NY State Thruway, vehicle pulled over on Route 330 & Emerald in Valley Cottage. Don't have any other details then that, wasn't working.
  4. From what I was told, they were trying to tell Stat Flight via radio not to land yet, but Stat Flight didn't hear or acknowledge them unfortunately. The patient in the ambulance was the 19 year old that eventually died, he was in traumatic arrest, wasn't pronounced until they got to Nyack Hospital. You can clearly see in some of the photos that the guys on the ground were pointing up, not waving them down, and eventually Stat Flight understood what they meant. Ambulance did not proceed until Stat Flight started to go back up into the air.

  9. Our Chief got a letter at our firehouse today and it was brought up at our monthly meeting last night. Assemblyman Zebrowski is requesting a letter of support from our organizations and from us personally to help push the act along. I am not sure if this is being mailed to departments outside of Rockland, where Assemblyman Zebrowski serves, but I will fax you a copy if you would like to review the information. A $500 income tax credit is better then nothing !
  10. At 12 noon on Monday 6/16/08 the West Nyack Fire Department, Nyack Ambulance Corp., Rockland Paramedics [Medic 5] & the Clarkstown Police were all dispatched for a construction accident at the Shoprite at 243 Route 59 in West Nyack. Fire Dispatch advised responding units of a crane that collapsed with a worker trapped by a steel beam, also reporting the possibility of a high angle rescue, then a report the crane was on fire. 1st arriving units found a scissor lift and steel beams collapsed onto an excavator. The south side of the building was in the process of being demolished due to it sinking. The worker was on the scissor lift using a torch to cut the steel beam, when both collapsed. The worker suffered several minor injuries and was transported to Nyack Hospital after being removed from the scissor lift by the West Nyack Fire Departments Tower Ladder. http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/wn061608 http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/wn061608

  14. The Journal News did an article on the salaries for the Police Department I work for, Clarkstown, about a month ago. I heard they will be publishing all Westchester & Rockland Departments. Reportedly you will be able to click on whatever department online and use a drop down menu to select the officers name to see how much his/her salary is and how much overtime they made.
  15. Yes, it's the brand new Shoprite on Route 59 in West Nyack across from the Palisades Center Mall. 24-1 [West Nyack Fire Chief] put the RRTRT [Rockland Regional Technical Rescue Team] on standby immediately after he was told by 44-Control dispatchers that there was a possibility of a high angle rescue needed. They were requested to standby at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona and await a response, which never happened. The photos were taken about 5 minutes into the initial dispatch. I live in the next town over, doesn't take me that long to get there. I couldn't get close enough to the scene to comment on stability, etc. All I know is that PD was on scene 1st, EMS & FD arrived shortly after that. Yes, it is starting to get busier in Rockland, just waiting on the next job ! Hard to photograph the jumper from the Tappan Zee Bridge from last night.
  16. Yes, it was a nasty wall cloud for sure. National Weather Service confirmed an EF0 Tornado touched down 3 times in Newburgh between 6:15 & 6:18 PM
  17. It could be a funnel cloud, but it could also be a skud cloud. I wasn't there, so I really can't say. Weather was certainly wicked enough to produce a funnel cloud. I was sitting at Memorial Park in Nyack waiting for one to drop ! These are a bit dark, but you get the point, it was nasty ! A photo by another Rockland Firefighter from the Route 9W lookout in Haverstraw, looking toward Westchester !
  18. The Central Nyack Fire Department was alerted at 1835 hours for a reported gas leak in the rear of the Nyack Food Mart, 4 Waldron Ave in Central Nyack. The West Nyack Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene on AMA due to a majority of officers/manpower being up at the Chiefs Convention in Lake George. 1st arriving Clarkstown Police units reported some type of gas leak with a large white cloud coming from the rear of the building with a heavy odor throughout the neighborhood. Central Nyack FD arrived on scene and reported an underground propane tank, unknown size, leaking. The Blauvelt, Hillcrest, Nyack, Orangeburg, Piermont, Valley Cottage & West Haverstraw Fire Departments were all requested to the scene along with the Rockland County Hazmat Team. The Congers, Orangeburg & Spring Valley Fire Departments were covering Central Nyack & West Nyack Firehouses. Numerous Rockland County Ambulances were staged at the scene and a Nyack Ambulance transported 1 person overcome by fumes from the Highview Court Apartments that is located on the hill above the leak. The entire apartment complex was evacuated, as well as the Nyack Food Mart, Shell Gas Station & McDoanlds. Incident placed under control just after midnight. Additional photos of the entire incident can be viewed on my website: http://www.brianduddy.com/g/cn061308 Before Fire Department arrival Central Nyack & West Nyack Fire Departments checking out the leak, getting soaked by the hose line protecting them The Rockland County Hazmat Team goes into operation as a hose team protects them http://www.brianduddy.com/g/cn061308
  19. That's exactly what it was. Store claims they had no clue there was a tank back there. I think they were having the rear of the building cleared out. Not sure how big the tank was, will drive by there in the AM as they have taken it out of the ground supposedly.
  20. The 1st real good storm of the season for me here in Rockland ! It looked like the storm was going to hit northern Rockland 1st and I didn't want to wait around for it to hit the Nyack area so I took a ride up toward Spring Valley/Hillcrest area and finally found a good spot to shoot at the Ramapo High School Football Field & Track. Results were so-so, could have been better in my opinion. All the photos have been posted on my website: http://www.brianduddy.com/g/061008 This lightning trigger that I have mounted on the hot shoe of my camera enables me to walk away, or even into the photograph as you can see. I guess I should have stood closer to the camera.
  21. God the girls of Hooters on Route 17 in Paramus, NJ are good to the firefighters ! http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/hooters http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/hooters
  22. The Valley Cottage Fire Department was requested for a brush fire along the railroad tracks on Kings Highway just before 3 PM on 6/3/08. Chief Sherman arrived on scene and reported a brush fire along the tracks behind Deemaria's Pizza. He then reported a 2nd larger brush fire just north of the 1st one by Pinecrest Road. The fire was caused by a construction train that was working in the area. The construction train, a RMSX 1001, aka a "rail grinder" is equipped to extinguish fires that it may cause, which were a few in several different locations. There were additional small rail pick up trucks that were also equipped to extinguish the fires as you can see. Definitely an interesting machine, never heard of it before ! Additional Photos, especially close up photos of the train, can be viewed on my website: http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/vc060308 http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/vc060308
  23. Danny is also an Ex-Chief of the West Nyack Fire Department in Rockland. Don't get better then him !
  24. I got some nice photos of Aviation 15 2 weeks ago when the Police Commish attended a funeral in Pearl River and Orangeburg FD was called to set up the landing zone ! http://www.brianduddy.com/g/nypd
  25. So sign up for a free account, we welcome people from all over, not just Rockland. If any buffs took the job in, there will be photos posted on the incident alert. The RRTRT was called @ 1932 hours and was staging at the top of Route 6 overlooking Orange County if they were needed, which they never were. The Hazmat Team was requested to stage at the FTC in Pomona @ 2020 hrs. The victim was removed from the trench shortly before 2200 hrs. I was told 7 Fire Departments & 2 Specialized Teams were on scene operating.
