Another year, another crappy Hess truck. Man i remember when these things were cool. They were real collectors items. now it just something you would pick up at the dollar store. Plus anyone remember when they were actually gas trucks?

Ego's in Westchester? There are no ego's here Just stay out of my little sandbox and it will all be fine.

I hate to agree with you but guys he is right. A little abrasive, but he is right. I mean you are holding Mike up as a hero with this funeral. He was shot because he was "... fatally shot by a co-worker whose estranged wife Purdy had just returned from having dinner with that night." Class A's would have been acceptable. I would not have an issue with that. But the rigs and the flags. That's a bit much. He was a murder victim. If you showed the images of the funeral with not captions or story, you would think he died in the line of duty. And while there is a difference between the LODD and non-LODD, this is a whole different thing. This was not an accident. A guy dying in a car accident, or maybe having a heart attack while at home would be a non-LODD funeral. This should have been a simple funeral not a show.

I have been watching this thread and reading and couldn't agree more. Now I know this was an accident and it's not like she was driving drunk or texting or doing something stupid. She simply had an accident. Plain and simple. He was in the street, she couldn't see him, there was a collision end of story. They did not need to release who her father is. He was not driving the car and was not in the car with he. It is most likely a political thing. Her not being brought up on charges however is a different story. I am sure she will be charged but not for some grand thing. Maybe the "Move over" law will be applied, maybe some other minor charge but that's about it. If you or I did it, Front page news, pics of me in handcuffs, perp walks, the whole nine. I feel bad for her and know she does not need this. Hopefully Officer Tillistrand recovers quickly with no long term damage.

Ya i was gonna say the same thing. It is tied in to the fence but that would only keep it from kicking out, not side to side. Not really sure what he was doing. Not really a bail out scenario, maybe just a class 2 harness? Who knows. Footing may have helped but he was going down even if someone was there.

How long is the bridge? Who is gonna walk across it merely to go shopping? I could see MAYBE biking across. And this is all if it does not collapse first. Maybe the reduced weight will be ok since repairs will be easier when you are not dodging cars and trucks. Less weight means less wear. They are gonna need to start building some places to shop that are a bit closer to the bridge. As far as i can see it is still a hike after you get to Westchester to get to downtown Tarrytown. I am all for the new bridge and all but keeping or losing the old one really doesn't matter.

Well isn't that what the DPW is for? I mean if these guys get hurt, who does the crap fall on? Ya it is great that we can do the real work but this is one incident. There is a lot of them on actual jobs (abet their behind the yellow tape). I have come to the conclusion that they are just a RAC unit. Sometimes they sneak onto the scene to get there gear dirty so it look like they are "real" fire department members. I guess it just bothers me that no one seems to care about these guys. I mean you show up anywhere else like this and you are gonna get asked to leave, or maybe arrested (depending on the PO on the scene). I mean are these guys lumberjacks? DO they know the proper way to cut a tree? All the seem to have is a chainsaw. One guys is using jean as his uniform. I mean come one would you want these guys on your scene distracting you?
-
Ya these guys are back. They were out cutting trees and basically not doing actual rescue work, again. I still don't know how these guys get all this access to the fire scenes. As a funny little aside if you go to there facebook page, you see that there are no updates for about 4 months at a time. When they do post it is always showing them not involved in anyway. Kinda funny
-
Wow, love this old school stuff. They guys all look so different back then.
-
So I checked it out and I must say that these guys build a good rig. They have different stuff and I think that since Code-3 is done these guys can really pick up where Code-3 fell off. It seems they are gonna be making a commemorative Seagrave TDA for the Tunnel to Towers Run. I hope these new rigs come out soon and wish much luck to this company

You mean there was a riot at a soccer game? Never heard of that happening before
-
I posted it once and i will post it again. These guys are the real scum of the earth.

Well it is actually a sign of a tunneled vision crew. A heads up crew would have OPENED THE DOORS! You see this all the time, guys get so tunnel visioned that the ignore the obvious easy fix. The car is not moving and you have committed to the hydrant, why are you gonna trash your hose on his windows and kink it up? Just run it over the hood if possible, if not, open the doors. You broke his glass for a reason right?

Seems like the same product with a new name. I am all for lighting up the load but adding an additional 1000 psi to the bottle would seem like something that should have been done a long time ago and they should be reducing the other components of the pack with new metals and such. I mean he talks about a 30 minute tanks and all but what is the real weight difference? I mean spending more money for a new pack that is saving a few pounds is kinda dumb. The packs have some many bells and whistles now that they can cut the weight of the tanks but then it makes it all back with new features. Maybe it is just me but my 4.5 seems to get the job done. Has a PASS alarm, a low air bell, and a face mask for me to breath through. I remember seeing something about a more low profile pack a while back. was like a thin back pack. that is the way they should be going. Cut weight and profile.

It's too bad they are shutting down, the Aerialscope M II body was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stagnant run of copycat FDNY rigs. I mean how many of the same rig can you really have? All they did was change the numbers and then say it was a new rig. I know that ya people want different houses rigs and stuff but it gets kinda lame after a while. The Diamond Plate Series was spot on. Ya it was more expensive but you got a quality piece of art. Tons of detail and craftsmanship. I have the E-68 Yankee one and I love it. The 10 Truck was a step in the right direction and a Tower ladder one would have been great as well.

Now boys, where are your SCBA's? Those are some sweet pics both above and on the ground.

Pete you being a photographer really does not make you a emergency service person. As stated, please give some sort of argument. We all have opinions and some are good and some are bad but we back them up. I think that PO Hess did what he is paid and sworn to do. I am not happy that someone died, but in the big picture, DJ choose to put him self in this situation. There go his death is solely his own fault. Is that a very extreme point of view, yes it is but i believe it is true. You speak of Office Hess as if he was a bad person. What happen, he give you a ticket for not buckling up or something?

What do you all mean Jay-z and Kanye are rapping about some Perp who got shot? Um isn't that what rap is? Bunch of perps singing over a beat about their homeys who ain't with us no more. Standard formula isn't it? Why not get the shopping center renamed after him since it was such a "travesty". Better off letting the family pick the wing in the prison back in MA and naming it after him there, since that was were he was gonna end up if brave Officer Hess had not saved all those lives out there.

I think that survival is now part of FF1 or FF2. I know FAST is a separate class, although it should be in the curriculum. I think that they could stretch the class out over a year and teach all the career level stuff. So it would sort of be a Vol. academy. They get the same classes and they are not rushed through. They can all so offer the individual classes for guys who what to brush up on their skills. Also the CPAT is a great idea.
-
Let me clarify that it is not the instructors who are watering down the info. The instructors are actually all some of the best i have ever been trained by and worked with, all with a vast knowledge of the fire service. I meant from the state curriculum stand point. The amount of info and having it reenforced over the entire career academy is what sets it apart from the FF1 and FF2 classes. Also the career academy is much more structured with the falling in at the start of the day and at the end. (Raising the flag, saluting the white shirts, etc.)
-
I think we all know that it is two different classes. The academy is a more thorough teaching of the info. The FF1 and FF2 are more watered down versions that are for getting vols feet wet for what is to come. After they pass the FF's they can take all the other classes that are required for Career Level service. I think it is great that kids are taking these classes. I know that it is getting harder and harder to keep members in these Vol departments. People are to busy working to pay the bills or they get hired and then they can do it for real as a living. I think that the current class length is fine although they should add EMT-Basic to the course load. First responder is good but at most places you work, 90% of your runs are EMS.

So wait, whats the right answer? It was not circled for me. Besides this test is bias, it is not in Spanish, German, Italian, Latin, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Yiddish, Vietnamese, Swahili, Russian, Hebrew or in Braille.

Ya I know it is a funny little comic but it represents a bigger issue. How many things do you see everyday that are 9/11 related for sale? The magazines, magnets, stickers, pins, shirts, patches, etc.. The list goes on forever. But you think any of these companies really are giving to the funds? Nope. They use a tragedy as a way to make more money. Guys are dying from illnesses that come from working down there. They get nothing but a "hey that sucks". Most people really have forgotten. It is nothing to them anymore. They were all flag waving and ready to pitch in 10 years ago. But now they are all numb to it. Sure the big 10 year anniversary is coming. BFD. Where were they for the 7th, the 4th, etc.? I guess these people just will never know what we, as emergency personnel, had to go through. Some people were down there, some people were back protecting the home turf. Some did Fill the Boot others had spaghetti dinners. I think we should stop buying this crap and just go on and remember them the right way, by getting on the rigs and keep pressing on. I miss the people who are gone and I am sure you all do to. God bless and stay safe out there

I think you have to live in the specific town/village to be a member. If anyone who is from these departments can fill us in on this that would be great.
