Milan (Dutchess) 256 Fire and EMS
-
In regards to fit 5 it all depends on the situation at hand. 2 years ago just after my dept put them in service we had a house fire with flames showing from 2 windows on arrival. Found 2 car in driveway with a pocketbook in one car and thought there might be someone inside with limited manpower on scene. It worked very well knocked fire down enough to get people inside for search and get hoses in place. It didn't put fire out but gave us sometime. The homeowners insurance company reimbursed us for the fit 5.

In dutchess county we use priority dispatch for ems 1 being worst 4 being non emergency no lights so if we are non emergency and someone gets on scene and says step response upgrades to lights and sirens on fire side its code 3 lights and sirens and code one no lights all fire calls are code 3 unless someone gets on scene and tells us other wise so if were code 3 or priority 1 2 or 3 then were coming with all we got so telling us to hurry up doesn't do anything but put more stress on someone who is already stressed anyway

Nice job looks like a challenge thanks for sharing

Well first thing that goes threw my mind being a past capt is how long is it going to take my people to safely get to the fire and how long before my 2nd alarm crews will take to get to me can these people even get out of there driveways maybe think about a plow to get these members out of there driveways to get to call.

This seems to happen every snow storm they get there is always something that goes wrong in the city I heard on the news that they were pulling pd off patrol to drive snow plows its just crazy they had plenty of notice about this storm don't know if any body seen the press conference with the mayor but to me he mad it sound like it was no big deal well wake up and smell the coffee this was a very bad thing trains buses werer not in operations and the mayor stood there and told people to get out and about no stay the hell home so people can do there job and it doesn't help when plow comes threw and people throw snow back in the road

In dutchess county the fire dept is dispatched to all mva with injury and if the caller isn't sure if anyone is hurt they send everyone until fire gets on scene and say other wise keep in mind we all still have a duty to act my dept responds to a lot of accident on parkway and a lot of times people driving by call these in so we don't know to we get there my dept respond 1 engine 1 rescue 1 brush truck for traffic 1 pick up truck support vehicle for traffic and 1 ambulance and a medic is dispatched on all priority calls 1 calls

First on scene size ups are important to let everyone know what's going on and they can plan there attack also on that is if updates come as people are responding know what's up use my dept as example is last week we received call for brush fire on tsp and county updated asst chief and no one caught the update and calling asst chief on our private channel he didn't answer back and some people didn't know if they should respond or not respond its would be nice to know what's going on and never heard chief call on scene later found out the update was from pd saying no fire farmer putting lime down in a field

As one of the responders on this call I didn't expect to find what we found on arrival with the heavy entrapment and stabilization that was required I have to say what a job well done by all who were there the team work and communication was unbelievable alote of equipment in operation you don't relies what you have taken off the truck until clean up comes around lol thanks again to all who responded
