  1. Similiar to when fire apparatus double park on single lane two way streets so they can go grocery shopping for their 3 course dinner....
  2. I know MPPD has a handheld TIC... I"m sure they would have utilized it (eventhough I know what you're getting at Chris.... )
  3. There should be a citywide shutdown for numerous reasons.... not just the parking nonsense...
  4. Just one of many reasons why there should be a citywide shutdown... no summonses, no arrests, let the precincts go into backlog.... the city sure doesn't care about its Police Department.... why should the members of its Police Department go out of their way for a city that looks to screw them every chance it gets...
  5. It's not a matter of being an equal opportunity employer... the simple fact is that she knew she was getting into a line of work that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days, a week, 365 days a year... regardless of holidays, bad weather, or any other circumstances. If she knew that she could not work in a position that works 24/7/365... she should have found another job. How many times have Police Officers on that job had to miss their kids first christmas or birthday or miss their first anniversary with their spouse because they had to work?? But no one complains because they know that stuff happens in that line of work... and now some rookie cop comes along requested a special schedule?? Gimme a break... if I was a senior patrolman on that job I would be FURIOUS if after 15 years on patrol, I was still working around the clock with rotating days off while some rookie gets a preferential schedule. I'd become the biggest sack of _____ that job ever saw... no more summonses, no more arrests, my sick days would go through the roof, etc. Why does it matter is she got arrested for shoplifting??? Forget about the fact that she has a criminal record and is now hired in a position to uphold NYS law, there were probably better candidates for her position that didn't have a criminal record, who ended up getting passed over for a perfect example of someone being hired for purely political reasons. That whole story made me sick... another example of how society bends over backwards for everyone except for the Average Joe... do you think if each Catholic Police Officer went to the Town and requested Sundays off to go to Church, or Christmas off to observe their religious holiday, that the Town would approve it? Of course not, but this girl will not only get her steady 4x12's, with her steady days off, she'll also have off every single Jewish holiday each year, no questions asked.
  6. Same name in both articles....
  7. Funny... just don't accept Iraqi Dinar as a donation.... 1 Iraqi Dinar is only equal to 0.0008488 US Dollars....
  8. Exactly right Chris... CRV, Operation Torch, and the Hercules teams are the Mayor's and PC's bragging rights every time they talk about NYC's war on terror to the press... no secrets there... the Mayor loves to brag that crime reductions and the war on terror are all his doing...
  9. A desk with 3 legs they dug up from the basement along with a couch the salvation army refused to take because of sanitary reasons...
  10. Critical Response Vehicle... one marked police car from each precinct stages at various points in NYC at different times/sensitive locations to act as a counter-terrorism measure... basically sends the message to any potential terrorist that you don't know where and when we're gonna show up at a location to interrupt your surveillance or planning... already proved useful when terrorists attempted a plot to detonate an explosive on the Brooklyn Bridge... their surveillance man said the area was too hot to conduct any kind of terrorist act...
  11. That's it... encourage running from the police... I thought this was a website of emergency service PROFESSIONALS... it's great when a member of the emergency service field encourages fleeing a police officer after being reckless enough to drive 144MPH....
  12. A 10-13 party has been organized to help support Police Officer Daniel Ulrich (NYPD 52 Precinct) and his family after his wife's recent diagnosis with stage 4 cancer. Danny has 3 young kids whom he is caring for as his wife undergoes extensive chemotherapy. The details are as follows: Thursday, June 26th 7PM til' whenever Gaelic Park at West 240 Street and Broadway in the Bronx Tickets are $20.... anyone interested can PM me for more details
  13. The taser is a preferred method of less lethal compliance as compared to hand-to-hand combat or the use of a nightstick. Let's face it, no matter how good you are with your hands, no matter how many years of martial arts you have under your 4th degree black belt, no matter how much you can bench press, there's always someone out there who can kick the ever living crap out of you. They don't necessarily have to be bigger than you, and sometimes an unassuming individual can be the one who delivers a beating you didn't expect. Rather than go hand-to-hand with an individual and risk significant injury, not only to yourself, but also to the perp, it's considerably more desirable to utilize the taser if you have acccess to it in order to gain compliance. Perhaps there are individuals out there who can withstand the taser, I don't know, I've never seen it. But if someone can withstand the taser, I definetly wouldn't want to go hand-to-hand with them. Despite all of the negative press the taser gets, most deaths associated with the use of the taser are typically a result of excited delerium and significant drug use by the individual prior to the taser being deployed by a LEO. If a LEO wants to keep up on their hand-to-hand fighting skills, take a martial art or boxing 2 or 3 days a week. Pulling out your gun on a fleeing drug suspect won't do a thing, but the Taser will. If the fleeing drug suspect isn't armed, and is simply fleeing, no LEO is going to shoot them to stop them from fleeing, that goes against the use of deadly physical force as outlined in the Criminal Procedure Law. Pulling your firearm on a fleeing suspect is good because if they are armed and present a weapon at a LEO, the LEO is prepared to match that threat with his/her own firearm. It may also serve as a bluff, and maybe ther perp will think twice about continuing to flee once they realize they're staring down the barrel of a .40 cal... but street smart perps know a police officer won't shoot them if they're simply standing there unarmed. Several times I've had perps tell me, "go ahead, shoot me", because they simply know that I won't because I have no justification to. Instead of wailing on the guy with my fists or clubbing them with a nightstick, it's considerably easier to gain compliance with a 5 second burst of 50,000 volts of fun. Using an impact weapon or your fists to gain compliance from a perp typically results in visible physical injuries... whether it be lacerations, swelling, contusions, broken bones, etc.... whereas most taser deployments result in two small marks if they taser barbs are deployed, and no other physical injuries.
  14. More liberal anti-police nonsense invading the internet from someone who has no idea what it's like working in Law Enforcement... amazes me how so many people who are not police officers are experts on the way the LEO's should handle situations.... You know what, maybe all police officers should go to the Steven Seagal School of Law Enforcement, so we can all be 8th degree black belts, catch bullets with our teeth, shoot a gun out of the hands of a perp from 300 yards out with a single shot from our handgun while executed a beautifully choreographed triple lindy, and disarm 50 men all armed with sticks, clubs, bats, knives, machine guns, and bazookas without ever having to put down our cup of coffee...
  15. If she has no prior DWI convictions, I would be suprised if she gets hammered. She'll get the typical punishment from DMV... Since it's aggravated DWI (BAC .18%), she's looking at a minimum $1,000 dollar fine (2,500 max), up to 1 year in jail (which she won't get if it's her first offense), and a minimum 1 year revocation of her drivers license. If she gets convicted of DWI (BAC .08 to .18), she's looking at a minimum $500 fine ($1,000 max), up to 1 year jail (which she won't get), and a minimum 6 month revocation of her license. She'll also have to pay a $250 dollar Drivers Responsibility Assessment each year for 3 years related to the DWI. If she enrolls in a Drinking Driver Program, she's eligible for a conditional drivers license which will allow her to drive to and from work (or whatever the conditions of the drivers license are). If someone got seriously injured, then I would say we might not be seeing her for a while.... but a simple traffic accident related to DWI... we'll be seeing her again about a year and a half from now.... if not sooner.
  16. I'd assume since this is a progressive form of prehospital medicine, we won't be seeing it in NY until 2050....
  17. If people are dropping all around you, please let us know your daily schedule so we can all avoid you.... Oxygen is not going to relieve bronchoconstriction/inflammation due to an anaphylactic reaction or an asthma attack... medication will. Doesn't matter how much oxygen you try to administer to someone, if the parts aren't working right (i.e. the upper and lower airway), all the oxygen in the world isn't going to make a difference until you can effectively treat and reverse the bronchoconstriction/inflammation. Not trying to diminish the importance of oxygen... but it's usefulness only goes so far without additional pharmacological interventions
  18. I was checking out this product's website... It doesn't appear that this product is medical grade oxygen... I'm curious if only medical grade oxygen needs a doctor's prescription or guidance under a medical control license to administer. The Oxygen to Go bottles are 70 to 80% pure (per the website), while the literature I've found on medical grade oxygen all seems to specify a minimum of 93% purity. Not sure if that matters, but....
  19. Absolutely... we're just waiting to get 'em... they had to be reprinted because of a mis-spelling...
  20. I know one of these vehicles comes out of 3 Truck in the Bronx.... most of the detals of its capabilities are "classified" though....
  21. It's amazing how the news always finds the town idiot to interview.... Ms. Mitchell is worried about dirty pool water being put on her house while it burns to the ground... unbelieveable....
  22. The only problem I could see with a "snorkel team" is that we're not talking about water rescues taking place in the pristine water with 70' visibility... we're talking about rescues taking place in stagnant and sometimes possibly polluted bodies of water where you would want a drysuit, very very limited visibility, and numerous potential hazards (i.e. fishing lines, branches, trash, car bodies, etc. etc.) for someone to get entangled in. At least if you get entangled with a SCUBA tank strapped to your back you can still breathe... get entangled with a snorkel and you have a big problem.
  23. Funny cause everyday at work I see private and municipal EMS units as well as plenty of fire apparatus doing the exact same things... Hey OnTheWheel, good point... guess I'll start tagging all of the commercial EMS units racing around all over the place lights and sirens to non-emergency transports... as well as the FD units who roll through red lights to get back to their firehouse before their food gets cold.
  24. We didn't settle on this contract... this was the contract that the supposed neutral member of the arbitration panel has proposed... only 2 out of 3 need to sign it to pass... the city signed in favor, the neutral arbitrator signed in favor, and the PBA opposed it.....
  25. It's an absolutely terrible contract and a disgrace... -4.5% and 5% raises compounded to equal a 9.7% raise -Starting pay goes from 25,100 to 35,881 which is obviously good -Top pay goes from 59,588 to 65,382 which is okay, not great, but okay -Retroactive pay x 4 years which is always a good thing, especially for a top pay police officer -Cops now must go to the range to requalify and on a vacation day.... NOT GOOD -New hires lose 10 vacation days a year for the first 5 years... which means instead of 20 vacation days they'll be down to 10, minues the one day for the range... 9 vacation days a year for the first 5 years.... ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE -The number of tour changes without being able to incur overtime went up from 15 to 20... NOT GOOD -The job can now notify you up to 24 hours before one of the 6 major holidays to either come in on your day off or change your tour... NOT GOOD Plus they haven't disclosed the new pay scale yet either.. who knows how much of a raise new hires will get each year until they hit that whopping 65k. The contract is a disgrace and a slap in the face... but what else should be expected from Bloomberg and City Hall.
