How great is it that, with the exception of some everyday ailments that come along with fighting fires, no one was injured. The possible leadership issues, possible empty tanker, possible malfunctioning smoke detection system are all insignificant at this point. I hope each member of the GBFD had a nice meal with family tonight, lets Monday morning quarterback and solve all of the World's problems and GBFD's potential problems another day.

Rest in Peace Lenny.
He was always great to be around. During our time in Pleasantville together, Lenny never fell for the politics, it was always about providing the best service to the public. Lenny was a great friend that will truly be missed.
One incident that comes to mind I mentioned recently in the thread about Thruway response and possible tolls.
We were returning from a parade in Bedford with the old R47. I was driving, when I got a long buzz to stop the truck. I stopped immediately and before I could get out of the cab Lenny had already hopped off and told me everything was OK. Unbeknownst to me Lennny grabbed a crosswalk sign and thrown it on top of the truck. We continued on our way. When I got back to Pleasantville's HQ, I let off the manpower to block traffic and spot me as I backed in. I swung the rig out into the street when one our chiefs drove up very quickly. It soon became apparent he was not in a good mood. He was pissed off that he had received a phone call from the Bedford PD, wanting the sign returned. I think the chief was more upset that his personal time with his wife had been interuppted!. When I asked the chief why they thought it had been us, the chief said "a police officer saw the big Rescue 47 we had recently stenciled on the back.", which is another story. Anyway after several denials about any idea of said sign taking, the chief left and I see Lenny and another member hiding behind the rescue laughing. They brought down the crosswalk sign and promptly returned it to its proper location. Lenny loved to have good time and would bring that incident up from time to time about the look on my face when I was confronted by the chief.

Why does it matter aside from maybe helping figure out what is wrong with the patient? Forget about how its just wrong to treat someone differently based upon a medical condition, what if they don't know they're carrying some disease. Everyone gets treated the same unless I suspect an infection requiring droplet precautions.
Moderator note: This was the very last post made by Lenny, before he left us for keeps. RIP.

Battalion Coordinators also do dual responses that require multiple agencies (more than 2 I believe). For examples, calls at Graham Hills Park for injured parties get Pleasantville FD, Hawthorne FD, Thornwood FD and Batttalion 11.
EMS Battalions are geographically different I believe.

Was doing firehouse safety OSHA training tonight and when discussing storage containers for combustible liquids and aerosols in the firehouse, I began to wonder if there is a standard for storage of combustible materials or aerosols on apparatus. For example, the yellow flammable cabinets that we all know and have in our firehouses...why are there not a small on in a compartment on rigs. We have gasoline, starter fluid, etc on rigs just put where they can fit. Is there an NFPA standard for storing these materials on rigs?

PFDR47 liked a post in a topic by PFDRes47cue in Accountability - How does your FD Handle it?
My home department uses a red tag for identification of all members and a green tag (in addition to the red) for interior members. Each rig has a key rig with a red tag that identifies the rig. When responding, the crew clips their red tag to the rigs tag. This is then given to the Officer on the rig, who in turn gives it to the IC once on scene where it is left at the command post. The green tags are left outside of the point of entrance into the structure. If a safety Officer or Chief is at the point of entry they take the tags and put them on a clipboard or clip them to their gear. If no one is at the point of entry. these are on the floor to the left of the door.
