  1. 50-65, The Gov when he was running for elecetion said he would have the 2% tax cap and remove the unfunded mandates... He's 1/2 way there!!! I'll keep holding my breath for the 2nd half.......................
  2. All the lawyers at the Association of Fire Districts of NYS conference last year told commissioners to make a motion to POSSIBLY exceed the 2% tax cap due to math issues with the Comptrollers Office numbers. That way you are covered if your increase comes out to 2.001% due to the numbers the Comptrollers Office issues. It's a cover your butt thing.
  3. I will get one out to him tommorrow from our Dept.
  4. Marlboro was glad to help. And your Ladies Aux made a great dinner!!
  5. With all this talk of States of Emergency and FEMA dollars and the like, how does a fire dept who spent some $ on storm supplies, food for members on stand by, specifically for the event get reimbursed? With the state, county, and just about all towns declaring a state of emergency, I assume that is a huge hurdle that is already crossed. Do you have to spend over X number of dollars or ??? Anyone know how this process works?
  6. Excellent information. I will check the FEMA site to see what the list of eligible expenses are. Thanks!
  7. Check the chainsaws and portable pumps for sure!
  8. If you could tally up the amount of equipment, manpower hours and everything else that was used on that fire, it would be a staggering number of dollars. That was a heck of a event for all the depts involved, and it was a TON of them.
  9. I can only imagine the "911 hangups" that would happen with text messages.....
  10. All, It's still not done with the restoration, but it was a good day today to go move some water. The Barton 500 GPM pump puts out water well, and catches a draft quick. My probie had some fun shooting water. They are off a cell phone, so sorry for the poor quality, but I figure they would be interesting, seeing some old apparatus being restored and still functional. I have all the orginal suction hose, ladders, etc, but it was alot easier to use the lightweight hard sleeve and modern hose for todays "testing".
  11. All you Somers guys.. I have never seen pictures of this vehicle before, or even heard of it. Anyone know anything about it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SOMERS-NY-HAS-HOLDEN-FIRE-COMBAT-UNIT-1949-AD-/310396516521?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item484512f8a9 Great dinner, by the way!
  12. I agree that no matter what you buy, it will require maintenance, which will require dollars to be spent. All brands have their ups and downs, and everyone has their own opinions about what is best. Im looking for other people's experiences with multi gas meters for the "basic" firefighter, not one for a HazMat team.
  13. I am very unimpressed with our MSA multi gas Altair, and it now needs repairs that make it uneconomical to keep fixing. (it's less than 2 years old with several bad sensors and has been well cared for/calibrated/ect as per the manual) I am looking at a Scott Protoge. All thoughts welcomed!
  14. Does anyone have any experiece with the Scott 4 gas Protoge meter?
  15. Yes, $50 for the whole set. I didnt argue the price, just gave the man the $, got my stuff, and walked away quickly...
  16. I just got that one in the mail last week. Lots of good info in them all.

  18. I was looking thru some recent FAJ's looking for pictures/info on tankers. I spent most of the afternoon doing this, and then started wondering who else had a complete collection, starting from issue #1, Volume 1. I got them at a SPAAMFAA summer muster in Syracuse 2 years ago for $50 for the complete set at the time. I figured that was a deal.. Anyone else have a complete collection?
  19. The problem here is that talk is cheap, but officers on patrol are not. If the Mayor wanted to really do something, she'd find the $ to put more officers on per shift and make it happen TODAY.
  20. Alcohol needs to go. We got rid of it along time ago, and that has prevented many problems from occuring.
  21. The NYNG doesnt have that many Water tankers or STMFT's in it's MTOE.
  22. No, it wasnt my intent at all. Perhaps it was just poorly worded sentence and just got me at a bad time. I wish the people of Yonkers well and that thye get this fixed ASAP.
  23. Helicopter. It is the last line of the LOHUD article that is posted in the first few posts. I'm on a mobile device, so I cant cut and paste. Edited: LOHUD has updated the article, and that line is no longer there. The line was something to the effect of Yonkers has asked for mutal aid from volunteer fire companies for thier tankers or the like.
